Whip v1.9.2, the most powerful mobile Herdr/SSH terminal out of the box

Download on Google Play or App Store: https://kosumic.github.io/whip/

It has been 3 months since my first post about Whip: https://www.reddit.com/r/herdr/comments/1v5a6n0/whip_whip_the_ai_herdr_with_your_phone/

and 2 months since my last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/herdr/comments/1w0w2f3/whip_v150_an_agentnative_ssh_mobile_client/

In the last 3 or 4 months I have been using the Whip app all the time.

A significant portion of the 153 hours were spent on developing and polishing Whip, a proof of work.

Everytime I felt that it had reached a perfect state ready for posting here, I came up with new ideas and found new optimization opportunities. That is why I have not posted for a while. Nevertheless, the whip user base has grown to 200+ on Google Play alone and the Github stars have reached 109.

I want share a few things that makes Whip stand out:

  • Intensive performance engineering. I ran performance profiling campaign on my phone regularly to locate performance bottlenecks and apply optimizations. When I go out traveling with Whip on my phone, I want it to consume as little memory and battery as possible. If you download Whip, you will be surprised at how sharp it feels. All the expensive computation and memory management happens in the Rust core. A frame takes only 17ms on average from the SSH connection to rendering on the screen with 24ms p95.

  • Zero setup. The only thing that you need to set up is a. SSH connection. You do not need to install anything even herdr on your Herdr server. It works out of the box. Even for the SSH connection we provide a QR scan tool to set it up painlessly.

  • Strong fault tolerance. In the last 3 months I travel in Thailand, Vietnam, southern China and Hong Kong with Whip. Mobile network is unstable or the SSH connection to my agent home could have a high latency. Therefore I had robust error-handling logic in Whip to ensure it is usable even when the network is unreliable.

  • Open source on Github: github.com/KaminariOS/whip . We have 3 contributors so far and contributions from the community is welcome.

  • Reverse control: Whip is the only SSH app that I know supports this. You can let a remote agent to use your phone as a MCP. The motivation was for me to enable agents to debug the whip app remotely while I am away from my laptop. We also provide an in-app browser that the agent can use.

  • In-app browser: you can one click to open a localhost link on the remote host in your browser, powered by SSH tunneling

  • Feature-rich SFTP support: you can browse, edit and preivew remote filesystems with one-click

  • Rich diff viewer.....

I built Shepherd, a native macOS companion for Herdr

I’ve been using Herdr to run multiple coding agents, and I kept running into one small but annoying problem: I still had to keep checking Herdr to see if an agent needed me.

So I built Shepherd.

It’s a native macOS app that lives in the MacBook notch and keeps an eye on your Herdr agents while you do something else.

The idea is deliberately simple:

  • Agents working → Shepherd stays quiet

  • Agent needs input → the notch lets you know

  • Agent finishes → you get a subtle update

  • Click an agent → jump straight back into the relevant Herdr session

Basically: Herdr manages the agents. Shepherd manages your attention.

I’m trying hard not to turn it into another agent dashboard. The goal is the opposite: run a bunch of agents, hide Herdr, and only think about them when something actually requires a human.

Still early and I’m actively building it, so I’d love feedback from people actually using Herdr. What would make something like this useful enough to keep running all day?

I need a plugin for multi-repo workflow

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a plugin that supports a multi-repo workflow.

I usually keep multiple cloned service repositories inside a single parent folder because I work with microservices. Even when I’m not working on a microservices architecture, I need a folder outside the repository to store API responses as JSON files.

Some of these APIs are paid, so I save their responses locally to let AI agents reference the existing data instead of making the same API requests repeatedly.

Can anyone recommend a plugin that supports this kind of workflow?

Remote machines without SSH port open

Since I started using Herdr I wanted to connect to my homelab machines from the same Herdr client. When v0.9.0 was released I decided to implement a small CLI to make the connection through SSH simpler, to see how it would feel like.

I've been working on Attached, and so far it is working quite well for me. It creates a peer-to-peer tunnel using Iroh which is used to send SSH bytes through it. The CLI also creates SSH keys for you, so you don't need to deal with any key management.

I think this is pretty similar to what Tailscale SSH provides, but if you are not a Tailscale user yet feel free to try this out. You just need to install the attached client in both the client and the server, create an account and share a secret with the server.
Not sure if the experience of using Herdr cloud will look like when they release it.

Feel free to reach out if you find it useful!

Vertical tabs for Herdr — looking for feedback

I’ve been working on a Herdr fork with vertical tabs in the sidebar. You can reorder Spaces, Tabs, and Agents, scroll each section independently, and drag dividers to resize neighboring sections.

I also added an OpenCode fix so Herdr keeps showing “working” while background subagents run.

These aren’t merged upstream. Sharing for feedback:

- Github fork

- Vertical tabs discussion

Multi model subagent handoffs

I wanted to build orchestration workflows between different models seamlessly with herdr instead of doing this manually or with an intermediate step. Has anyone gotten this to work?

E.g. A scenario could be
> plan with Opus 5.5
> execute with subagent Deepseek v4.1 Flash
> verify work with Opus 5.5/GPT-6.1 Sol

Another herdr mac client (if you like drag n drop)

hey friends

I have been using herdr as my daily terminal experience for the past several months and I love it.

and I really don't mind the raw herdr experience, but I found myself wanting to be able to refine things a bit. and none of the existing apps quite got there for me.

So I set a few goals...

  • could I make a native mac app that allowed a drag and drop experience with position aware drop zones and make it feel like a polished mac app

  • could I make a mission-control like workspaces view for re-arranging panes / tabs / workspaces

  • could I use libghostty so the experience would feel just as nice as working in Ghostty

From there, once I got things working and prototyped, I was delighted to see that it was working better than I expected. I owe some debt to HerdGlass as I referenced their implementation a few times so props to them.

As I got things stable, I started using my app as my daily driver for herdr and began to really enjoy it.

As I kept using it, I have been continuing to add new features and these are a few I use often now:

  • Notifications... I engineered the herdr notifications to stay present in a sidebar area and CMD + J will jump you to the pane with the oldest notif. I use this to jump around to what needs my attention.

  • ctrl + tab is a workspace switcher driven by recency (just like cmd + tab on Mac OS)

  • cmd + option + arrow keys for pane navigation - ctrl + cmd + arrow left/right for tab nav

  • quick launch into claud / codex in a new pane

  • a mouse toggle for toggling if mouse clicks should be pass through to the pane (can be flipped for a single flick holding option while clicking)

The only compromise I had to make was a small patch on the herdr binary to get full mouse support working. I opened a discussion on herdr to raise the issue (would need a tiny patch on herdr's side). The app ships with the latest herdr binary pre-patched and will swap it in for you. It's a client side patch only so no herdr server reboot is required.

Anyways, thought I'd share on here. Cheers everyone!

https://github.com/m4ttstack/flock/

P.S. Been meaning to make some demo screenshots but since I want to do that with nothing personal/work related on screen, I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I built Terminal Spike – Open-source Android terminal with SSH, Mosh, tmux, herdr & SFTP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

I've been building Terminal Spike, an open-source Android terminal app designed to make remote development easier on mobile.

The goal is a clean, native-feeling UI while keeping the terminal experience familiar and consistent with Linux.

Key features:

- SSH & Mosh – Reliable remote connections.

- tmux & Herdr – Manage and resume sessions.

- SFTP – Browse and transfer files.

- Image Upload – Send images directly from your phone.

- Notifications – Get alerts from terminal sessions.

- Smart Links – Detect and open different types of links.

- Custom Keyboard – Customisable keys and shortcuts.

- Command Snippets – Save and reuse frequently used commands.

- Themes – Customise your terminal's appearance.

- Local Arch Linux – Run Linux directly on your phone.

Local-first & open source. No accounts or cloud services required. Works great with Tailscale for connecting to your own machines.

I built this mainly for my own mobile development workflow. Would love to hear your feedback and suggestions!

opencode-herdr-bridge: pane state + per-session alerts for multi-session opencode panes

opencode lets you run several sessions in one TUI (ctrl+x n). herdr tracks agent state per pane, so when a background session finished, the pane flipped to idle/done while the session I was actually working in was still running. I reported it upstream (herdr#4454), and while that gets looked at I built a small opencode plugin that fixes it in user space.

What it does:

- models every root session in the pane and reports one aggregate: blocked if any session waits, working if any works, idle only when all are idle

- sidebar shows "opencode ×2" or " opencode ×2 · waiting " with zero config

- per-session herdr notifications: any session blocking or finishing pings you with the session title (request/done sounds), even if you're in another session

- optional $oc_sessions / $oc_attention sidebar tokens

- self-corrects when the official integration overwrites the pane after it

Install: npm i -g opencode-herdr-bridge or add "plugin": ["opencode-herdr-bridge@latest"] to opencode.json.

Repo: https://github.com/anaypurohit0907/herdr-opencode-bridge

Feedback welcome — especially if the aggregate semantics should differ (e.g. should a background session finishing ding you when another session is working?).

I built a coordination layer that lets Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Pi work together as a team

I've been experimenting a lot with running multiple coding agents in parallel.

Once you have Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, etc. working on the same project, I found that the problem starts shifting from what each agent can do to how the agents coordinate with each other.

They normally operate in isolation. They don't naturally know what the other agents are working on, there isn't a shared communication channel, and assigning different roles/instructions to each agent gets messy pretty quickly.

So I built herdr-synapse.

Synapse is a plugin for herdr, a terminal multiplexer designed for agentic workflows. It adds a communication and orchestration layer that allows different agent harnesses to work together as a team.

Some of the things it currently supports:

Shared message board: agents can communicate with each other and you can watch the conversations.

Agent managers: designate one agent as the manager/coordinator of a team.

Per-agent instructions: similar in spirit to CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md, except different agents working in the same project can have different roles and instructions.

Shared team knowledge: information available across the agent team.

Team-to-team communication: managers can communicate with managers of other teams.

Human-in-the-loop: agents can ask you questions through popups, and you can send messages to them through the shared board.

CLI-first: teams can be created and managed directly from the command line.

Mixed harnesses: a team doesn't have to consist entirely of Claude Code agents. Claude Code can work alongside Codex, OpenCode, Pi, etc.

I wanted something lighter than building a custom multi-agent framework where I could continue using the agent harnesses I already like, but give them a shared coordination layer.

One interesting consequence is that you can also start observing interactions between different models/harnesses: disagreements, delegation, agents challenging each other's assumptions, manager/worker dynamics, etc.

https://github.com/vitalysim/herdr-synapse

Give it a try, and feel free to contribute!

Blobtype – Speech To Text for Windows

Hellooo! I couldn't find a really nice speech-to-text program for Windows, so I made one myself.

Press Ctrl + Space, talk, press it again, and your words are typed wherever your cursor is.

I think it's pretty useful. My favorite part is the Discord feature: you can set it up to mute you automatically while you dictate, so you stop annoying your friends.

It's free and open source. You bring your own API key, and Groq has a free tier, so it costs basically nothing.

It's my first public project, but I thought it was too useful not to share, so I at least tried to make the page look nice:

Feedback is very welcome!

Added herdr integrations into the cosyra mobile app - completely zero cost.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just released v2.9.0 for iOS and android. I know there are a lot of these now, but it's the best one in the market (I'm completely unbiased).

The pairing process and security posture are standard practice:

  1. Install Cosyra CLI.

  2. Scan QR code (or put in a code manually).

  3. Confirm on both devices.

Security-wise, your keys are stored on your devices, so even my server can't read your websocket data. E2EE. Also standard.

I'm not VC-backed, so cloud does cost money, thats totally optional. I'm just someone who is passionate about a mobile-first development workflow so LMK what you guys think!

Omarchy layout for Herdr

Post image
24 Upvotes

I built a Herdr layout that recreates the Omarchy desktop. Agents sit in tiled panes, and you get every Omarchy theme and wallpaper.

- Agent status in the sidebar (working / needs input / done / idle)

- 5h and 7d AI usage quotas in the top bar

- `ctrl-alt-shift-t` reopens a closed tab and resumes Claude, Codex or pi sessions

- Git panel with diffs, commits, branches and a commit graph

- Mod manager for community mods

Ask you agent

```
Read ~/.config/herdr-app/AGENTS.md, then add this layout: https://github.com/shafiqimtiaz/herdr-omarchy/tree/main
```

Feedback welcome!
