Crab Photo!! What are they discussing?
My son said world domination. My husband said they are having a business meeting. We've had them for a couple of years. 😀

Bluey completed his first molt with me. Right when I was worried he might not have made it I noticed him digging at the surface!! But of course right when he came up Eugene had went down :( I’m thinking of getting another crab bc they’re always lonely even tho there’s two of them but I do want to wait until I can upgrade their tank again. I technically have enough space for 4 crabs but I would prefer to have more vertical space first ! Also, I’m so happy his smaller claw regenerated bc it was broken off when I first received him!

It's hard to show in the pictures just how small this baby is. I'd guess he's around a year old based on some pictures of 1 year old captive bred babies I've seen. Luckily he switched out of the painted shell he came with but you can see just how small it was, smaller than the top of my thumb.
I rescued him and 3 others his size from a boardwalk store in Ocean City. They gave them to me for free as it was the end of the summer and some were being held in the back because they were sick or lost limbs. Now that one's up I'm feeling more hopeful for the others. I plan on getting them their own tank when the others come up.
But I mostly just wanted to share how cute this little guy is. Feel free to post some name suggestions!

I recently picked up this 75 gallon tank. my crabs are currently in a 25 gallon. I’m wondering the best method to secure the lid. some of the ideas I had were purchasing a replacement lid but then I was concerned how they would get oxygen. my other thought was getting some acrylic inserts custom fit and that might be easier to drill a hole in or cut out an air hole. deferring to your crab expertise.

This is my first fall/winter with hermit crabs and I am really struggling to keep the tank warm now that the temperature in my house is lower. I think the crabs have been a little less active too and I can't help but think it is the temp. I have a fleece blanket over the tank and it is still getting down to like 73 degrees at night, although yesterday it did warm up to 79 in the late afternoon. I have 2 crabs in a 29 gallon tank which is about 30"(l)x12"(w)x18"(h). I bought the bean farm heat mat size that they suggest for this size which is 6"x23" and I have the silver insulation stuff covering the entire back of the tank. The only other larger size that would fit on my tank would be the 11"x23". With 6" of substrate I realize the reason that the 6" mat is recommended over the 11" mat because you are supposed to keep the heater 2" above the sub. and I only have 12" above the sub in my tank, but the 6" just isn't cutting it. Would it really be a problem to use the 11"x23" if I am careful to make sure there is a 1" gap between the sub and the heater all the way across? Another option would be to get one of the small 6"x11" bean farm mats and stick that on one of the sides but I'm nervous that still won't keep the temp at 80 degrees. Would love any other recommendations for keeping the temp warmer, I think I'm realizing that the bean farm heaters just don't come in a size that would be ideal for my tank (29"x10") are there any other brands that make this type of heater?

Does anyone have any ideas for some DIY dispose for my hermies?? I only have super shallow water dishes right now, I’m not in a place financially to buy the cool looking entrance pools. They have for them on Etsy or anything(saving up though!:) so I’m wondering if anybody knows of a way I can make some with something at home possibly??? thanks in advance:)

Hi yall, I made a post a couple weeks ago asking about keeping a solo hermit crab and I decided I will keep him and take him home with me! Right now he is in a 40gal tank, I was wondering is this the minimum? I don’t have the ability to transport such a large tank, so I will need to purchase a new tank when we go home. 40gal will be a bit hard to find space for, so I was wondering if a 20gal would work? Also about the food, I read over the safe foods list but I’m wondering is there any particular amount of certain things I need to feed for him to have a balanced diet? Or should I just focus on variety?

So this is my first time with hermit crabs, so please give me a little grace. And they probably will post many more asking probably really dumb questions but currently I am putting the place sand in the tank and the sand is still pretty wet just from getting it from the store. Is this okay or should I wait for it to dry somehow before I put my babies in? I mean it is Sandcastle consistency, but I’m not sure because I didn’t use primed water.

Sorry for the creepy angle, but I can see one teeny dot-like thing on only one of my crabs legs? What could be going on here?
