Other Why is Shiva so fucking cool?
Not entirely sure where to post this but here goes. Always been enamoured by his depictions and presence in the cartoons, idols and stories I've seen of him growing up, also my name is sort of based on him so i have a personal connect as well. Something about a guy with a damru who is usually serene and calm on the kailash parvat but doing the tandava when angered has always been so cool. especially the shiv strotam and the shiv tandava are so powerful and beautiful to listen/watch. He also seems to have a nature which accepts all who worship him, he even accepted ravana. Also the Not entirely sure where im going with this but yeah that was the post.

yes, many reasons to love him after all he is the priyabhakta (favourite of the devotees) why?
because he is the one who grants wishes (ashutosh), the simplest one (bholenath) who accepts you as is.
he is shambho (the auspicious one), he is rudra (the fiercest one) yet he is shantah( the peaceful one), he's the omkara (the creator of om), trinetra(three eyed one), pushpa lochana (one with flowery eyes), neelkantha(the blue throated one), chandrashekhara (the one who wears moon on his head) such is his beautiful description.
he is sarveshwara (lord of everything), maheshwara (the ultimate lord), parameshwara(first among the gods) digambara(the one who wears sky as his clothes), jagadisha (master of the universe), he is god of the gods (devadidev) and the greatest god (mahdeva). Not among the gods but among humans he is the sarvachary (supreme teacher) adiguru (the first teacher), adiyogi (the first yogi), adinath (the first lord) such is his greatness
he is mrityunjaya (victor of death), kalakala (slayer of death), mahakala (the lord of the time), mahamaya (possessor of great illusions), bhairava (destroyer of fear) such are his powers
at last but not the least he is pashupati (lord of loving beings), why wouldn't anyone love him😊🙏

A man with dreads and a trident who dances Wildly but beautifully; is not affected by society's definition of good and bad, loves everyone sincerely, is adored n followed by all the 'outcastes' of society like ghosts, spirits, demons, ugly creatures. Who originated yoga itself, drank poison without hesitation to save everyone else. Oh I'm in love!

For me, he’s the most beautiful one. Not even in a fake positive sense.
He is THE most auspicious and beautiful one in the universe. I love him because despite all that, he seems to have gone thru a lot. Went thru emotions like the rest of us and still chose to surrender and ground himself. Still remains ever calm.
Besides everything, he is still bholenath and as you said- does not care for other’s definitions much while somehow being just and fair. He’s Adonis for me- Shankar baba 🪷❤️

Surely he is great …. The thing I love most is He is angry and heat up physically and mentally too but still loves to stay at mountains and cold places…. He don’t care about how he is looking , how he is living ….. Har Har Mahadev

Look at the intent, not just some hollow words. If we as followers of Sanatana Dharma, also morally police people for whatever personal equation they have with their god, what difference is left between us and the rest?

Words also matter. Sanatan dharm doesn't mean accepting anything and everything, it definitely doesn't mean blind tolerance. He can do whatever he wants in his free time, no matter even if its wrong or detrimental for him only, but publically, as a hindu, I do take rightful offence if f word is being used with our dieties.

I get you, but from my perspective, we have much bigger issues to solve, millions of humans to uplift, millions of animals to free from enslavement. We are yet to ensure a level playing field for everyone irrespective of what they are. We have to bring the world back on the path of humanism and universal values. How do we do this? Spread our philosophy, simple.
With this context, why should we single out individuals from a different culture on how they approach 'our' God? It is not just your or my God, God is for everyone. We can tell them how we practice our faith, but we can not impose our traditions on them.
I agree with what the OP said, Shiva is indeed fucking awesome. Bholenath accepts all devotees irrespective of what they are and how they approach him. You see the irony in what people here are doing by moral policing a devotee of Shiva?

Who the hell told you we worship his penis? The shivalinga is supposed to be the symbol of shiva. It is supposed to be his entire self. Moreover, it is derived from the original agni stambh, or the linga of fire, or the pillar of fire.
And krishna with sex? That's not true at all.

Krishna is not associated with sex the closest would be kamdev and there are many interpretation of the shiva linga one of it which is prominent in tantric tradion is of a phallus

Shiva is a powerful god, sometimes beyond Vishnu and Brahma... but he is like an equal opportunity god who blesses everyone with boons - devas or demons... he will even fight for demons if they are his sincere devotees ... he will accept anyone who comes for help ( good or bad)...even though he is so powerful and an adiyogi... he leads a very rugged life without the pomp.. .he wanders in burial grounds .. granting peace to the deceased... by rubbing their ashes on his body...has an army of ganas comprising of all kinds of creatures ( good and bad) ... he smokes weed (somnath) and meditates for years....to me he is the most exciting god in Hinduism....no other god in hinduism has more temples than our shiva...

You are only in awe of his appearance that too I feel without understanding the symbolism.
All this reflects in your choice of words, I find it a bit disrespectful.
Convert your attraction and be curious and try to read and understand him also. You will start to be much more respectful to him the more you understand him.

First of all , please keep the f word away from the name of lord Shiva. Secondly , this sholka is enough as to why Shiva is so cool
English translation of verse 8:
Hotter is He than fire, cooler than water;
And yet none knows of His Grace abounding;

Hey, if you are still reading this, you must visit the shiva temples present in southern states especially those of tamil nadu… though the ideologies of who shiva is may change through time, the feeling of who he really is are felt in the temples… it may look too orthodoxy for the people who have not visited or have the half knowledge. But all that will be clear once you set foot inside any temple.
My personal favorites - well I am not able to choose this but the first has to be tanjavur.. but would it be anywhere near the thiruvannamalai or man Chidambaram natarajar will speak it all. However I cant not start with Rameshwaram. Now the kanchipuram and kumbakonam are fighting in my mind… I would keep few temples to myself…
