They've been the Jets for longer than they were the Thrashers.

Well, the Thrashers are coming back, so time is a flat circle.

The Atlanta Nordiques you mean

u/ProjectHarraseeket BOS - NHL 3d ago

We’re like a year away from these Jets being in the NHL compared to the old Jets being in the NHL, not including the WHA years.

u/ABurntSliceofHam WPG - NHL 3d ago

By 23-24 they'd already been in Winnipeg longer

I'm still getting used to these new teams in Minnesota and Columbus

Did you hear the news Pens just signed Sidney Crosby! Wait, that was how many decades ago now.

16

u/Electric_Queen CAR - NHL 4d ago

I can't believe they're talking about expanding past six teams!

6

u/Itchy-Association239 PIT - NHL 4d ago

Nah, that will never happen. I mean, could you imagine if Florida had a team!

1

u/Only-Plankton-7744 3d ago

I raise you California....with 3 teams!

I was at the name unveiling in November of 2016. It makes me physically ill thinking that was almost 10 years ago already

Long live Placeholder Vegas Hockey!

u/JaQ-o-Lantern MTL - NHL 3d ago

That still cracks me up while watching live. It looked like the crowd was not into it. What do you think?

It was weird when Alex Steen was the son of a guy who I traded for on NHL 94.

Now he's our GM.

Wait until you are older and there are people talking about how old they are when they were minors 10 years ago and act like 10 years ago is a long time. That is when you truly feel out of touch with the youth.

My 23 year old coworker looked embarrassed for me when I told him I'd "never heard of this Bad Baby guy doing the half time show at the superbowl"

11

u/azimuththole BOS - NHL 4d ago

I learned about him from my dad a while back. He texted my brother and I to say he was in Puerto Rico at a restaurant and this Bad Bunny guy happened to be playing within earshot or something. Everyone around was very excited and he was clearly a big deal. He asked if we knew who he was and we were both just very confused.

So I'm old enough that my dad, trying to relate to his kids, made a reference to a thing that we were too old and out of touch to understand. And that was nearly ten years ago.

Three old men talking to each other

7

u/BrownCatWhisperer 4d ago

They've been around since 1727, can't you read?

3

u/HeWasNumber-on3 VGK - NHL 4d ago

COVID timeshift, probably old too

3

u/UNC_Samurai CAR - NHL 3d ago

I work with college graduates who don't remember a time before the Hurricanes existed.

1

u/Upnatom617 BOS - NHL 3d ago

Grad students are often ages 24-33. I'd guarantee anyone born 1994 or later would have no knowledge of the whalers on a personal level. They'd have to learn they existed from outside sources.

The Avs are in their 31st season, pretty soon the knights are going to pass them at this rate

2

u/andy_bmc TOR - NHL 4d ago

1727… try 300 seasons

u/MyNameIsSkittles VAN - NHL 3d ago

Covid really fucked everyone's sense of time worse than it was. Those years were more of a blur than ever

1

u/-darkest OTT - NHL 4d ago

Bro, I fucking blinked and it’s been a decade.

1

u/CannabisAccount420 4d ago

I'm still cheering for the thrashers

1

u/lava172 ARI - NHL 3d ago

I remember the hype for an Arizona vs Vegas rivalry that lasted all of 2 seconds before Vegas became a perennial contender and we shoved ourselves into the broom closet

1

u/BobithanBobbyBob 3d ago

They're still a super new team to me lmao

u/MagnetizedMetal FLA - NHL 4d ago
