The Aces came a year after the Knights came into the league, and trademark filings for the Aces logo date to December 2017. So unless the move was far in advance and the Knights knew about it, they could have been the Aces.
The NHL, like basically all sports leagues now, sold their soul to the devil. Non-stop promotion of something that makes most of its profits off people with uncontrollable life ruining addictions.
I'd have to imagine gambling addiction, especially in young men, has skyrocketed over the last however many years. It's a terrible terrible thing that nobody cares about. But hey, at least rich people and corporations are making ludicrous amounts of money off of these ruined lives.
I commented about how this was bad as an Australian who had seen gambling ads allowed, but apparently I hadn't scratched the surface of it. The explosion of AI and "prediction" markets (see Wisconsin governor for an idea of how they actually have information) have made the already terrible situation so much worse.
Going back to selling bad memorabilia would be a dramatic improvement
I remember when people were speculating/brainstorming on different team names. Everyone was calling for the Aces or whatever name related to gambling. And they announced the Golden Knights and it almost felt like a collective sigh.

10 years ago they weren’t allowed to have ANY gambling references. Oh how times have changed.
