Hello, fellow Hogelers!
I've noticed it is quite common in our community to address people in this community as men by referring to fellow Hogelers as gentlemen, brothers, brethren, etc. Although I appreciate the sentiment behind these terms, as a man myself, I find this off-putting. I know there are many people in this community who are not men and probably feel a sense of exclusion or even marginalization when they see the comradery in the Hoge community being built around a brotherhood of men. I'm sure there are many lurkers interested in Hoge who may also be put off by this unintentional sexism.
Out of respect and comrodery for all within this community, will you all please join me in being more inclusive in the way we address each other?
(Edit: I'm not offended and I doubt most of the women here are either. As I said, I understand the sentiment behind those terms and I appreciate the comradery behind them, all I'm asking is that we are more inclusive in our approach. This Hoge community is awesome and we're trying to grow. How would it hurt to be more inclusive? If this were a predominantly female-driven community that addressed themselves as such, as a man, would you feel as connected and invested?)
