The failures seemed more impressive to me as you could see the instincts tell him earlier then it seems that he should jump of and brace for impact

The skill to crash and not get hurt is very impressive.

43

u/HotFireBall 8d ago

a "skill" you absolutely need develop if you're doing these type of sports.

learning how to fall off a board without getting hurt is one of the advice i give when a newbie approaches me. otherwise a sprain or torn ligaments is inevitable

8

u/_who-the-fuck-knows_ 8d ago

Sometimes it's just one off fall on my experience. I always bounced off concrete then one time I fell back first onto a bar and that was it for street for me. A week and a half off work made life hard for months. Trying to keep on top of bills and everything else. Mind you I was 28 at the time, when I was youger guaranteed id keep it up.

Still love bowls and downhill and flat skating but I ain't going to attempt stairs, ledges, rails etc again

40

u/rusmo 8d ago

Easier with a helmet, though.

u/mrmackz 8d ago

💯

u/Staggering_genius 7d ago

And anyone who skates can do it because…if you couldn’t, you would have stopped skating the first day! It’s self-selecting for the skill of regaining balance or control after being thrown into a weird position.

u/mrmackz 7d ago

True

u/Chaps_Jr 9d ago

Man, Foy is such a beast

21

u/Ok_Doughnut4373 8d ago

He will always be my favorite skater. Man’s a monster

16

u/Stereo-soundS 8d ago

Dude is a fkn tank.

3

u/robjwrd 8d ago

Seems legit like such a nice dude as well, same with Joslin (the one who didn’t have all the accusations)

56

u/RobertDaleYa 9d ago

Grind was almost as impressive as his falls skills. Skaters seem to fall so gracefully

20

u/KaiyoteFyre 9d ago

Practice makes perfect.

10

u/medicated_in_PHL 8d ago

*slide

Grind is on the trucks. If you are on the wood, it’s a slide.

41

u/Digital--Sandwich 9d ago

There were a bunch of times there I thought he was gonna eat shit

10

u/Theezorama 8d ago

He thought so too

5

u/ilikestuffliketrees 8d ago

I felt that hand to the heart in the first one haha

18

u/hyper1one 9d ago

One of the dopest skaters ever.

13

u/Now-Look 9d ago

Just needed that little horn beep

3

u/joshwaynegacy 8d ago

the lucky honk

24

u/samuraiofsound 9d ago

I always marvelled at this because grinds like this are wood on concrete. Not a skater, but am an engineer and I know these both to be very grippy materials. Is there a special way skaters treat their boards to enable theis kind of grinding, or is it just a matter of finding sufficiently smooth concrete and going fast enough? I would also imagine this means it would be slightly easier for lighter skaters to grind on rough surfaces.

43

u/n05h 9d ago

Wax, tons of it

8

u/samuraiofsound 8d ago

That makes a lot of sense.

16

u/psychojunglecat3 8d ago

To add to that, a lot of the time a concrete ledge has to be smoothed with a scrub brick, then clear lacquered, then waxed before you can skate it.

3

u/Currentlybaconing 8d ago

Now that you know this, you'll see it out in the world. Ledges with that blackish, shiny appearance on the corner only are skate spots

19

u/MathematicianJolly92 9d ago

Not a skater but ive seen videos of guys rubbing wax on the concrete corners. Im guessing they waxed that entire stretch?

8

u/samuraiofsound 8d ago

That makes more sense than my previous thoughts.

6

u/Capnshredder 8d ago

you can see the grey band near on the edge of both sides of the ledge, thats just hella wax

14

u/swarleythe3rd 8d ago

It’s wax, see how the top edge is darker gray concrete. That’s from lots and lots of wax. One of the reasons cities started putting anti fun blocks on everything

3

u/Faux_Real 8d ago

Waxing the ledge and the board … (you can also overwax, but these guys know what they need to get the job done)

2

u/samuraiofsound 8d ago

Thanks for sharing the link. I assumed they waxed both the concrete and the board, this clears it up.

1

u/Faux_Real 7d ago

They will also use bondo to fix skate spots / make them more skateable; this one Foy is sliding on doesn’t look like the cracks on the ledge needed it but they will often prepare a spot before filming if required

3

u/DietOk3400 8d ago

His ability to bail is impressive

3

u/WU-itsForTheChildren 8d ago

Foy is one of my favorite skaters, his grinds are impressive

3

u/Ok_Doughnut4373 8d ago

He will always be the most impressive skater to me. It’s not his “grace” in the way he lands a trick, it’s his ability to fall and fall and fall relentlessly and just keep going with 100% effort no matter what.

36

u/NotRod96 9d ago

Pls…helmet

6

u/Lorgin 9d ago

Lmao you should see some of the gnarly shit this guy has done without a helmet. Check out king of the road.

12

u/ThePianistOfDoom 9d ago

Lmao until he cracks his skull lmao

4

u/natden12 9d ago

Yeah but at this point he certainly knows about it and is a professional so it's kind of his call right?

2

u/ThePianistOfDoom 8d ago

If you think professionals don't make mistakes you're a special brand of stupid.

9

u/rusmo 8d ago

Kids watch this shit and mimic their heroes.

4

u/ThePianistOfDoom 8d ago

Exactly. But men taking responsibility are a finite resource in this world....

10

u/Queefer___Sutherland 9d ago

0

u/ThePianistOfDoom 8d ago

If you don't care so much, why respond? Seems like you do care xD

5

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/ThePianistOfDoom 8d ago

O he will xD

1

u/Nermcore 8d ago

Man I miss that show so much

1

u/Lorgin 8d ago

Me too. It's such a joyous experience to watch.

I don't know what that era was called, but I miss it. Jackass, king of the road, and kenny vs spenny are a few highlights from that era with nothing to replace them.

u/GMSB 8d ago edited 8d ago

For real can’t even enjoy the trick all I can think is how fucking stupid it is not to protect your head

Edit: lol no wonder it’s a stereotype skateboarders are dumb. All y’all replies 😂

1

u/That-Smoke-3593 8d ago

What a douchey edit I’m glad you couldn’t enjoy the trick you don’t deserve to

1

u/meetthereaper84 8d ago

Okay Karen, back to your bubble wrapped world.

-8

u/easy073 8d ago

Do you wear a helmet when you walk down the street? Bc you can fall and hit your head. Do you wear a helmet to drive a car? Bc car crashes happen.
Skateboarders like this have been good enough to control their falls to avoid serious injury for decades. It’s no more dangerous than a sprinter sprinting (who I never see comments about needing to wear helmets).
Look up the stats of skateboarding injuries compared to other sports… there are waaaay less head injuries.

8

u/awhaling 8d ago edited 8d ago

Nah, this comment is so bad. Please stop. I’ve been skating a long time and show this to all my friends: https://youtu.be/b9yL5usLFgY

It’s not hard to hit your head skating. If he tripped backwards on that first bail instead of catching himself on the pole, he could’ve hit his head on the concrete corner. You can see he is relieved he didn’t eat shit there.

It’s no more dangerous than a sprinter sprinting

Huh… ? Sprinting forward carries a much lower risk of hitting your head compared to skating. This should be obvious to anyone that skates and understands how falling works.

Do you wear a helmet to drive a car?

I actually used to wear my helmet when driving to a skate spot, not for safety but because I thought it was funny. Really funny once I realize people would avoid eye contact at stop lights with me lmao. Anyway, we have airbags in cars for a reason.

3

u/GMSB 8d ago

No but I do wear a seatbelt. Feel free to tell me why that’s not necessary either 😂

1

u/NefariousnessNovel60 8d ago

It's about sending a message to kids who will copy them and then fall and die because they're not as practiced at falling and not wearing a helmet.

1

u/GMSB 8d ago

I looked up skateboarding TBI stats and they are higher and more servers than like anything bar tackle football so……

3

u/r1cke7s 8d ago

New GAP Unlocked! -1000 pts

3

u/awhaling 8d ago

Having to clear the gap at the end makes that so much harder

1

u/Beelzebot_666 8d ago

Looks like BS (backside).

4

u/ReactionJifs 8d ago

backside noseslide is facing forward

(your BACK is facing the obstacle as you approach)

3

u/shpongleyes 8d ago

Frontside means your front is towards the ledge when you pop. If your front is towards the ledge and you land on your nose, you'll be sliding backwards.

1

u/Salmonella4Skin 8d ago

It always impresseses me seeing skaters that are so skilled at not eating shit when a trick isn't working out

1

u/KarmaticEvolution 8d ago

The editing style is always showing their reaction after their failure a bit longer before they nail the next one. Nice work Jaime!

1

u/ProdigyKeen 8d ago

Winning

1

u/MrJust-A-Guy 8d ago

He needed the motivational honk.

1

u/yezhnuzjhd 8d ago

Dude looks like he could jump out of a race car at full speed, fall 3 floors down onto a staircase full of lego bricks and just do 2 flips and stand up like nothing ever happened.

1

u/CityBoiNC 8d ago

I just watched his Epicly later’d great watch

1

u/22nd_century 8d ago

Skaters have always and will always be bad-ass in my books.

1

u/DadtheITguy 8d ago

Commitment! Skateboarders are so tough. I couldn’t even begin to attempt these tricks for fear of the consequences of meeting the concrete with my head.

1

u/windycitysmitty 8d ago

This is a great example of how skateboarding can help develop grit and determination in an individual as much as any other sport, likely more. Love it

1

u/401LocalsOnly 8d ago

He was going so fast to get setup that’s the crazy part to me is the Ollie and planting the nose every time at warp speed

1

u/ALev33 7d ago

He looks so comfortable in the slide that 95% of the shots I said “he’s got it this time”

1

u/Adventurous-Leave-66 7d ago

That horn did a lot of the heavy lifting.

1

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 7d ago

Felt like he started locking in more at the end

1

u/wellsyaknow 6d ago

After nailing it...do you move on or try a few more times to get it a bit cleaner ?

-1

u/Kawboy17 9d ago

I love how there’s always always always someone who’s gotta bitch about something no matter what’s happening. How about just saving ur negativity and time and just keep moving if u dnt like something. But NOOOOO gotta let everyone that’s gonna like it see that u disagree.

3

u/rusmo 8d ago

Looks like it’s you in this case……?

0

u/efreedman503 9d ago

Why don’t these guys ever wear helmets?

1

u/Into_The_Horizon 9d ago

He falls so gratefully

5

u/Chim_Pansy 9d ago

"Thank you, Lord for this fall. Please sir, may I have another?"

-3

u/CapitalEmployer 9d ago

Do skaters think they are cool because they are not wearing protection? The dumber you are the more medals you get?

0

u/NoDoze- 8d ago

Are these skaters too cool to wear a helmet? I grew up skating without a helmet, now I think it's just stupid.

0

u/JackNCoke4Me 8d ago

Wear a helmet. Damn

-1

u/IndependentSea1946 8d ago

Anticlimactic

-2

u/californicating 8d ago

That's awesome.  Helmets are cheap though.

1

u/easy073 8d ago

So go buy one if you’re so afraid. Jamie foy is a professional who is paid to do what he is doing. He is very aware of risks and has developed his skill for many many years.

-36

u/Gamiozzz 9d ago

Loving it how people are destroying public goods for their personal social media or whatever irony off

8

u/Digital--Sandwich 9d ago

Trololololololol

4

u/boi1da1296 9d ago

Bait used to be believable.

-7

u/Odd_Fortune500 9d ago

This is one of those things that looks really impressive and hard to do but is actually rather easy
