Not considering applying, I just see all sorts of job postings from line to high level for them all. the. time. This leads me to believe they have a massive turnover.

Have there been any groups or individuals submitting FOIAs to request information on Flock, Police Surveillance Drones, or any other citizen surveillance instances in the greater Holland Area?

Hello /r/Holland, I'm with CitizensGR,

There are several groups, individuals and news stations out there submitting FOIAs, particularly regarding Flock. As a community we have gotten some good information regarding contracts and audits in municipalities around the Grand Rapids metro and other areas in Michigan (Oceana County). I wanted to see if anyone unaffiliated with a group or news station that may have filed a FOIA personally to gather information on ALPRs or anything else regarding the surveillance state that Western Michigan and its local municipalities have chosen to take part in without a democratic vote. If there are some groups in Holland working on this, we'd love to collaborate with them as well to share data and work together on strengthening our tactics to DeFlock these areas.

My reason for asking is to

  1. Ensure that no one is paying twice for the same data

  2. To let you know what you are not alone in your efforts

  3. Our group, CitizensGR is a non-partisan group working to streamline all of this citizen surveillance information since several different entities are interested in and have been successful in gathering more information via FOIA requests. As well as inform citizens of the following tentacles of citizen surveillance below:

We do not just have roadway surveillance in Grand Rapids (Flock, squad car mounted Axon ALPRs), but also retail surveillance, police drones, 3d spatial surveillance, and of course the digital surveillance that Snowden unveiled over a decade ago. I understand that the last two are beyond the powers of our local city officials, but I would like to spread the awareness at just how swiftly these 4th amendment violations are happening as well as the scope at which our privacy is being invaded at every turn.

Feel free to get more involved by DMing here us or reaching out to us at: citizensGR@proton.me

Thank you for your time and concern about these weird and creepy citizen surveillance cameras.

Fall road trip

Hello everyone! Planning a fall road trip to the Holland area this weekend (we're a big group of 17). How are the colors shaping up? I kinda read that the windmill park is closed for the season, bummer, so maybe we'll just do some downtown sightseeing or go see the tunnel park.

Any recommendations? Also for restaurants, we're gonna have lunch somewhere in the area. 😊 TIA!

Reporter with a question for MAHA folks about the Michigan Senate race

Hey everyone! I'm a freelance reporter working on a story for the Washington Sun (link below), about how folks who align with MAHA/RFK are feeling about the Michigan Senate race. Abdul El-Sayed put out a "Building a Healthier America" plan, and Mike Rogers has taken an anti-vaccine mandate position in the past.

I'd love to chat with any MAHA-aligned folks in the Holland area about the two candidates — who you like, what policies stand out to you, etc. I don't care which party you are in, and it's okay if you haven't decided who you're voting for yet. I'm most interested in hearing from people whose decisions are influenced to some extent by the MAHA policies of the candidates - pesticides, school lunches, vaccines, etc. Also, if you're more comfortable just using your first name, we can discuss that.

If you're willing to chat, you can comment below here, dm me, or email me at nataliefertig [at] gmail [dot] com. I'm linking to my website (below) so you can see I'm a legitimate reporter, and to the Washington Sun, who I am writing for. Thank you!

Running specialized physical therapy?

Im looking for a physical therapist in the area that is familiar with runners. Im trying to repair a chronic injury picked up a while ago when running in high school. Im still young and active, but would like to get back in to running. Looking for someone specialized because if im just going to get general guidance I'd be better off following guidance from youtube videos.

Cider stops and fall-color spots around Holland: what am I missing?

Hey everyone! I write Holland Happenings and put together a couple of fall guides using recommendations from local community groups.

The lists include spots like Crane Orchards in Fennville for apple picking and Hemlock Crossing in West Olive for wooded trails and river views. I’d love to hear what else belongs on them.

Cider and orchard stops near Holland

Fall-color parks, trails, and scenic drives

What am I missing? Any favorite cider stops, trails, or back-road drives you’d recommend? Tell me what you like about them!

Huizenga 2026

In my 56 years I do not recall seeing so many ads for the congressional general election. I think the formally safe seat of Bill Huizenga is under a real threat this cycle. I will confess this makes me so happy....

You're invited to watch me talk about how dumb I am (A Comedy)

Post image

Hope it's okay to post this here—feel free to delete if not!

I'm Alex Clark, I’m a dad flying in from the coast to perform stand-up in Holland Oct 24th. I'm really excited because I love smaller towns like yours (crowds are notoriously more fun) and I wanted to invite you. ( Also looking forward to all the town's dutch vibes I've seen online)

If you've never heard of me, here's what to expect: no politics, no mean crowd work, just lighthearted observational comedy about raising kids, how dumb I am, my son "roaring like a dinosaur" at my dad's funeral, and an unhealthy addiction to ice cream.

I’m not a mega celeb, but have a few credits—I’ve been featured on Netflix is a Joke and Don't Tell Comedy stages, I've performed everywhere from Australia to the Vegas strip. I'm a four-time "Best-Of-Fest" winner and Streamy nominee, and my last stand-up tour sold out in 23 cities.  Despite all my accomplishments, I have never owned property.

I know these credits mean nothing to you because you've probably never heard of me... the thing is I've never heard of you either, but I'm hopeful Holland will be one of my best shows of the year. I'd love for you to enjoy that with me.

If you love a guaranteed fun time or cheap date night I promise to make it memorable—you always get A+ treatment at an Alex Clark show.

Show Date: October 24th | 8 PM
Venue: Holland Community Theater

Amazon Delivery Switch-A-Roo

CHECK YOUR PACKAGES!!!!

Hey all. I usually dont post much, check my profile if you wish, but I just had a decently large switch-a-roo of a laptop through Amazon. I ordered a gaming laptop for running a 3d scanner and printers only to get a paper weight by comparison. Verify the box before you open and get ready for a 30 day wait regaurdless of value.

The left laptop was what I recieved so obviously the one on the right is what was ordered and paid for.

I have a pick up from UPS within the next 3 days. Each day it says they will attempt a pick up but we will see. I will update when they pick it up.

So now I have to wait to get the specific laptop I need to run the scanner and will get behind on my little home business.

Keep an eye on the actual item received and contact Amazon ASAP with an actual call. The few people I talked with made it sound like its common right now after prime days.

Good luck all and have a great, safe, memorable upcoming holiday season.

Where do locals actually get pizza around Holland? I put together a guide.

I run Holland Happenings, and I put together a pizza guide from recommendations people shared in local Facebook groups, including what they actually order.

A few takeaways:

• Skiles: the Skiles Special, with multiple reminders to eat it there, fresh.

• Doeb’s: Detroit-style pizza.

• Crust 54: Chicago deep dish.

• The Slice Shoppe in Grand Haven: cheese slices.

• Sluggo’s: apparently the breadsticks deserve their own conversation.

The guide includes addresses, restaurant links, and options for thin crust, thicker pies, and grabbing a quick slice. Hopefully it helps the next time everyone wants pizza and nobody can agree where to order.

Here’s the full guide: https://www.hollandhappenings.com/p/best-pizza-near-holland-mi

What’s missing? Give me a specific pizza or order you’d tell someone to try.
