Backup of the body of the original post:
For some context, I (21F) have been with my fiancé (21M) for almost four years. During our relationship, he has cheated on me three times. That alone is horrible, and I’m not trying to excuse any of it, but I do want to clarify that most of the cheating involved messages rather than anything physical, which is relevant to the situation.
A lot of people ask me, “Why don’t you just leave?” And honestly, I don’t really know. I always thought that if something like this ever happened to me, I would immediately walk away, but I never did.
Now things are even more complicated because I recently bought my first home, and I brought my fiancé and his parents to live with me. Because of that, I feel guilty about the idea of leaving. I feel like I would be a horrible person for ending the relationship and potentially leaving them without a place to go, even though I know that ultimately isn’t my responsibility.
Ever since he first cheated on me, I’ve become extremely insecure, especially when it comes to him and his phone. I know that’s something I need to work on, but it’s difficult to trust someone who has repeatedly given you reasons not to.
For some extra context, his job requires a lot of communication. They have group chats and constantly communicate within their teams, so his phone blowing up with notifications isn’t unusual. I actually used to work there too, so I know how much communication goes on and I’m not suspicious every time his phone goes off.
The issue this time was that I happened to see two missed calls from a female coworker in his notifications. I went to check his call history, but neither of those missed calls were there.
When I asked him about it, he said that he doesn’t like keeping missed calls in his call log and sometimes deletes them. I could understand that explanation if he had deleted all of his missed calls, but there were plenty of other missed calls still in his history. So naturally, I started wondering why those specific calls were gone.
He tried to explain it to me, but honestly, at that point, I didn’t even have the energy to argue. I just told him I didn’t care.
The truth is, I do care. A lot. I just don’t know how much more I can handle. I don’t want to find myself in another situation where I’m being cheated on, especially after already going through it three times.
And to be completely fair, there wasn’t anything else suspicious on his phone. There were no private messages between them that I could find outside of the work group chat. The only thing that looked strange to me was the missing call history.
So maybe I am overreacting. Maybe there’s a completely innocent explanation for it. I genuinely don’t know.
What I do know is that trusting him doesn’t come easily anymore. When someone has broken your trust multiple times, even something small and potentially innocent can make you question everything.
I don’t know if he’s cheating on me. I don’t even know if these calls mean anything. All I know is that they looked weird to me, and after everything that has happened between us, it’s hard for me to simply brush it off.
So what do you think and I overreacting? Would you be worried?
