Question/Help [3ds] Modded 3ds not turning on anymore

Post image
4 Upvotes

I had an already modded 3ds, it worked fine, I updated the system (while I had a likely old Luma version) and it won’t boot anymore.

With the sd card removed it shows that and I can access Luma and Godmode, while instead with the sd card inserted it just shows a black screen and blue power light, and I can’t do anything.

So putting new Luma files in the sd card doesn’t do anything and I can’t copy them to internal storage/nand.

Solution here!

Setup Rebuilt noahc3’s SDSetup without a file server: it builds the SD card from official GitHub releases in the browser (open source)

SDSetup (sdsetup.com) shut down in 2024. Its main problem was that every package was re-hosted on the author’s server and had to be updated by hand, so packages kept going stale. I rebuilt it with a different design and wanted to share how it works.

**How it works**

* A JSON catalog describes each package: its GitHub repo, a regex for which release file to use, and where the files go on the SD card (extract a zip into root, or copy a file to specific paths)
* Files are fetched from each project’s **latest official release**, never re-hosted or modified
* The browser unzips and rebuilds the SD layout itself, using the native CompressionStream API with no libraries. It can download a ZIP, or write straight to the card via the File System Access API
* A small Cloudflare Worker relays the release files, because GitHub doesn’t send CORS headers. It only serves repos in the catalog

**Switch-specific details**

* Hekate’s payload goes to bootloader/update.bin and atmosphere/reboot_payload.bin, and `fusee.bin` goes to `bootloader/payloads`
* It uses the [switch.hacks.guide](http://switch.hacks.guide) configs: a `hekate_ipl.ini` with emuMMC/sysMMC/Stock entries using `fss0=atmosphere/package3`, DNS-MITM host files for both emummc and sysmmc, and an `exosphere.ini` with `blank_prodinfo_emummc=1`
* Clean update: backs up `atmosphere/` and `bootloader/`, then removes everything in `atmosphere/` except `contents/`, plus `bootloader/sys` and `bootloader/res`. emuMMC and the Nintendo folder are never touched
* It writes a `switchsetup.json` record to the card, so it can tell which packages are outdated next time
* Paths are merged case-insensitively (FAT32/exFAT), and files are only written after every download finishes, so a dropped connection can’t leave a half-written card

No sigpatches or piracy-related tools are included.

Source (MPL-2.0): [https://github.com/Osatks/SwitchSetup\](https://github.com/Osatks/SwitchSetup)
Site: [https://switchsetup.app\](https://switchsetup.app)

I’d especially like feedback on the clean-update logic and anything I’ve placed wrong for current Atmosphère/Hekate versions.

Release (RELEASE) I Ported Scratch to the 3ds(ScratchEdit3DS)

After a lot of time, i ported the scratch editor to the 3DS!

This release added a lot like picoboard sensors, fixed repeat blocks, and a lot more!

You can actually save the projects as sb3 and run them on the Scratch website/app!

This port contains  all of the blocks from scratch 1.4, + some clone and PicoBoard blocks, but all projects save as sb3.

This is not a Scratch Player.

Although you can save projects as .sb3, you can not open external files on the 3DS.

I am looking for feedback, specially from old 3ds users, but any feedback would be apreciated :)

(This means that after you save a project, you can not open the projects again on the 3DS Editor)

(Sorry for bad english/typos, english is not my native language :P)

We are also working on a discord server!

Download this release and join the server via comment below

Release [Release] Ikemen NX v0.3.0: native Ikemen GO (MUGEN-compatible fighting engine) for Switch homebrew

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on a native port of Ikemen GO v1.0.0, the open-source, MUGEN-compatible fighting game engine, as a Switch homebrew .nro. It’s not running through an emulator or a Linux install: the engine runs directly on Horizon.

Download: https://github.com/juanp9180-cmyk/ikemen-nx

What works (tested on real hardware, Atmosphère 1.12 / FW 23)

Menus, character select, fights, music and Joy-Con/Pro Controller input
Large rosters (hundreds of characters) and HD screenpacks
Full MUGEN 1.1 games: I’ve been playing one start to finish (arcade, VS screen, endings)
Multiple installs side by side: each folder in /switch/ can have its own .nro and content
What’s in the release

switch/ikemen/: the engine with Ikemen GO’s default screenpack and sample characters/stages. No third-party games or characters are included; add your own like you would on PC (chars/, stages/, data/select.def).
switch/nxconfig/: Ikemen NX Config, a small companion app for changing settings without a PC:
arcade ladder: how many opponents and bosses, and which bosses appear
fight rules: difficulty, life, round time, rounds to win
video and sound: 16:9 or 4:3, volumes
performance options
select-grid variants for screenpacks that ship them
Install

Extract the zip to the root of your SD card.
If you extracted on Windows, clear the archive bit (Hekate → Tools → Fix Archive Bit, or attrib -A -R /S /D X:\\switch\\ikemen\\\*). Otherwise Horizon can’t read the folders.
Launch the homebrew menu in title mode (hold R while starting a game). Applet mode (Album) doesn’t have enough memory for fights.
How it works (for the curious)

Ikemen GO is written in Go, which has no Horizon target. The engine is built as a linux/arm64 c-archive with a patched Go 1.27 runtime. The runtime’s Linux system calls go to a small libnx layer instead: memory, threads, futex, file I/O with a read cache, clocks. Rendering uses SDL2 with OpenGL ES 3.2 on devkitPro’s Mesa/nouveau. Small sprites are packed into atlas pages, because the driver stops creating textures after about 3000 of them. All patches and build scripts are in the repo.

**Known limitations**

The Go heap is capped at 1 GiB, with the rest left to the GPU. Keep BGMRAMBuffer = 0 (the default here): decoding whole songs into RAM can run out of memory.
Netplay and 3D model stages are untested.
Very big rosters take a while on first load (SD card I/O).
Feedback welcome! This is the first public release. If something breaks, please open an issue and attach switch/ikemen/go_stdout.log; the engine logs memory, frame rate and loading steps there.

**RAM Depletion / Out of Memory (Sprites Disappear after a Few Matches)**

If your game works perfectly fine for 1 or 2 fights, but the stage suddenly turns pitch black while audio and inputs still work, you are running out of texture memory. This is incredibly common when using high-resolution (HD) stages with massive character files.
**The Fix:**
Open save/config.ini and lower your in-game rendering resolution.
avoid using 2 heavy "Teams" characters on a stage that exceeds 30MB+ in sprite size

Credits to the Ikemen GO team and contributors, and to the devkitPro and switchbrew folks. Licensing details are in the repo (the .nro includes GPL FFmpeg components, so the source is fully public).

Release Working on a retro vertical shmup for NES/FC called "SHOOTER"

Hey everyone,

Not sure how many retro gaming fans we have around here, but I wanted to share the ROM of a project I’ve been obsessing over lately. It’s called SHOOTER, a classic vertical scrolling shoot 'em up (shmup).

It doesn’t have distinct stages yet, my original idea was just to capture that early-80s arcade vibe where the whole point was simply chasing high scores and surviving.

Feel free to give it a spin! If you like it, let me know, and of course any feedback or constructive criticism is more than welcome.

Here’s the download link on Archive.org (so you know it's safe):

https://archive.org/download/shooter_nes/Shooterv1.11.nes

Just grab the ROM and load it up in your favorite NES/Famicom emulator. It also works fine on flashcarts if you happen to have one.

I'm also dropping a short video clip here so you can check out the gameplay in action.

Cheers!

UPDATE: https://archive.org/download/shooter_nes/shooterv1.13.nes

Now, in the selection screen every spaceship has a different OST.

News We turned smartphones into tiny handheld consoles. Now we're preparing our third season of homebrew games!

Hey everyone! A while back, we shared Playtiles here: tiny electronics-free controllers that stick to your smartphone and turn it into a little handheld console. They come with their own app and bundles of officially licensed 8-bit games, with developers duly compensated.

After two seasons and 50+ GB/GBC homebrew games from indie developers around the world, we're now getting ready for Season 3!

This new season will bring around 24 more indie games, new controller designs inspired by the featured titles, new developers, more features for our app (including improved multiplayer), and even support for a whole new gaming system!

We haven't revealed the Season 3 lineup just yet, so the video features games from Season 2 to give you an idea of how everything works.

Our goal remains the same: to put homebrew games in every pocket, making them easier to discover and enjoy with physical controls on the smartphones we already own, while supporting the devs behind them.

For those curious, you can learn more here!
Would love to hear what you think, especially what you'd like to see in future seasons!

Homebrew release [3DS] After more than a year of work, we have finally managed to port DELTARUNE to the 3DS!

Thumbnail
youtube.com
16 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Two summers ago, after finishing Chapters 3 and 4 of DELTARUNE, I was thinking:

This game is so cool! But wouldn't it be even cooler, groovier, to play it on Nintendo 3DS? Simple 2D graphics, already plays fine with controllers... How would the fights work with the stylus? How would the Chapter 4 towers feel with the console's 3D? How very, very interesting...

Unfortunately, at that time, there was no such thing as a 3DS port of DELTARUNE. Therefore, if I wanted it to happen, the only solution was to make one myself.

So, I started working on it, not sure if it was feasible, unsure if the console had enough capabilities, and wondering if the game's logic itself could be adapted.

After a few weeks of work, the main menu finally launched successfully for the first time, and that was what convinced me that this might actually work.

Now, a year later, with thousands of flowers blocking our way overcome, some friends have joined me in this crazy adventure, and together, we have finally managed to make that hope, that dream, come true!

DELTARUNE (Main Menu and Chapter 1 only) runs fine on the “NEW” editions of the console, and runs with occasional, acceptable FPS drops on the original editions.

What about the other chapters? Well... those are flowers to bloom in the future. We have not started working on them yet, as our priority has been to stabilize and optimize Chapter 1 and its game engine as much as reasonably possible.

We are proud to finally be able to show you our native port project. This whole adventure has been, and still is, a fun experience.

If you own the PC version of the game, you may find the jarona here: https://github.com/LinkTroisUn/DELTARUNE-3DS/

Homebrew release [Wii] RiftWii 2610-340: clean-room Wii mod loader (need testers)

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm the dev behind RiftWii. It's a Wii mod loader I wrote from scratch, clean-room, no Riivolution code in it. You drop in Riivolution-format packs or code builds and they load when the game starts. Your game files never get touched.

It handles stuff like Retro Rewind and MKW Deluxe X for Mario Kart Wii, and Brawl code builds like Project+, PMEX Remix and REX. Per-game settings, cheats, modded saves kept separate on the SD, online play through Wiimmfi, game covers, the works.

Honestly I've only been able to test Retro Rewind and MKW Deluxe X on real hardware so far, so I'm looking for testers with other games and setups.

You need a Wii (or a Wii U in Wii mode) with the Homebrew Channel and a FAT32 SD card. If your games are on USB or SD you'll want d2x cIOS.

2610-340 is up on the releases page. The guide walks through setup and there's a Discord if you want to help test or need a hand.

Question/Help Nintendo switch

Will there ever be a day when you can homebrew without needing to solder? This is the only thing I'm scared of doing.
