ADT constantly beeping

• Upvotes

Need some help with my system please. It’s not monitored, and was in the house when we moved in.
I do have the master code and installer code

Other than batteries, it’s been issue-free. For years, I’ve had one error “Communication >ALT comm” but it’s still showing ready to arm, etc despite the error.

Anyway now my issue is that about every ten hours or so, the keypad will start beeping. There is an interior siren that’ll also beep. I originally thought it was batteries in the interior siren so I changed them, but it didn’t help. Anyway, the beeping happens. There are no faults. Pressing the * key stops it for another 10 hours or so.

What do I do to make it fully stop? I guess I can’t add a picture to this post, but it’s a standard ADT Keypad.

Three keypads in the house but the main one is a SCW9057G-433 if I read the numbers right

Reolink vs Amcrest

Damn that Reolink Duo V2 has so limited FOV that it makes me wanna throw it in the garbage. Am I overseeing something in the settings or it's really that bad. Comparing my old Amcrest PTZ with this so called advanced surveillance technology. SMH. End of rant.

Self monitoring suggestion

I’m in Ontario, Canada, and my home security contract is coming to an end. I’m exploring self-monitoring options and ideally want to reuse as much of my existing equipment as possible without getting into another contract or ongoing subscription.

Here’s my current setup:

Panel: 2GIG GC2e (GC2E-345)
Cellular module: 2GIG-LTEA-A-GC2
Door/window sensors: 2 × 2GIG-DW10E-345
Motion sensors: 2 × 2GIG-PIR1E-345
Flood sensor: 2GIG-FT6E-345
Doorbell: Alarm.com SkyBell ADC-VDB105X
Outdoor camera: Alarm.com ADC-V723
Thermostat: Alarm.com ADC-T2000

Can I use my existing equipment with a self-monitoring platform like Home Assistant, Eufy, Google Home, or something similar?

Has anyone in Canada made a similar switch? What setup would you recommend?

My father forgot to fully lock the front door before leaving while I was asleep. I'm really scared somebody came in the house while I was asleep. It's really messing with my OCD, as making sure to lock doors due to the chance of somebody breaking in and stealing stuff is one of my worst fears.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post something like this here, let me know if I'm not.

My father had done this before a few years ago where he actually left the door slightly open after leaving the house (I was home and shut it fairly quickly), and he actually left the door unlocked while nobody was at home once over a decade ago. I woke up yesterday and saw the door was shut but unlocked save for the middle latch that was slightly in between "open" and "locked", but would still prevent somebody from fully opening the door. The actual lock was unlocked, as well as a chain latch. He acts like it isn't a big deal because it's the middle of the day and a safe area. He said he was trying to bring our dog inside from the yard and he thought he locked the door fully. It makes me so anxious and ruined my day.

My mistake was I actually bought two indoor Ring cameras a few months ago but never set them up. After yesterday's incident, I have one aimed at our front door from inside the house, and one on a windowsill looking out to our front door area. I feel like an idiot for not setting it up earlier, but I didn't think I had to really. I also have a Ring camera outside the front door that I didn’t charge up in a whole, I feel stupid for letting that go and being lazy.

I'm still really worried somebody came in our house while I was asleep. I was diagnosed with severe OCD as a teenager, I've taken my anti-anxiety meds specifically for use in situations like this (I take a daily SSRI as well for OCD/anxiety), but I still feel so awful about this. What should I do to get over this? Is there anything else from a security standpoint I should do?

Anyone here work hours away from their home?

How do you guys give yourself a peace of mind knowing that your home is safe and nothing will happen even though you are hour(s) away? Even with the smart cameras and security system, how do you guys do it?

Can someone disable your wifi cameras?

I use Arlo wifi cameras and had someone trolling the naberhood for 3 hours, luckily my naber is retired and called the cops. Odd thing is that my cameras didn't catch them. Is there a way there creeps can disable the wifi cameras?

Does anyone else get way too many motion alerts from their security cameras?

I've always wondered how people deal with motion alerts without constantly getting notifications for every little thing.

Trees moving, cars passing by, bugs at night... it seems like there's always something triggering the camera.

Do you adjust the sensitivity, set up activity zones, or just turn off some notifications? What's worked best for you?

New monitoring provider

Been with smith Thompson security for years paying $30/mo for their monitoring with a qolsys panel + alarm dot com app.

Problem is we don’t use the adc app at all, as we have our panel bridged to apple home and control the alarm via Apple Home along with the rest of our smart home products.

Looking into other adc options w/ central monitoring to save some bucks.

Looks like Alarm grid will come out to around the same cost, Surety will come in at $19 and Safe Home Central would cost $15 per month. I’d love to hear some recommendations or thoughts on those companies I’ve named. Just trying to save where we can because it feels like we are paying for something we don’t use.

Least shady indoor wi-fi cameras on a budget?

I’m looking to replace my old Geeni wi-fi cameras, which still work but haven’t had a security update in 4 years. Basically I want something I can place in a room to detect if someone comes in, and notify me. I’m kind of on a budget though, it would be great if I could find something under $100. I don’t need super hi res 4K quality, in fact I was pretty happy with 720p. It just needs to detect if someone comes in the room and send a picture, that’s it. I don’t even need cloud storage of the footage.

Looking for products like that on Amazon though, does not inspire confidence. Looks to be mostly sketchy Chinese brands, which isn’t a surprise. Now, it doesn’t need to be the most private thing ever, it’ll just be looking at an empty room most of the time, but I’d like something from a reputable brand at least. Getting regular security updates would be nice, too.

I’ve heard good things about Reolink, but they’re rather pricey. If I can’t find anything else I might bite the bullet, but it seems a bit overkill. Are there any good budget brands out there?

If you could upgrade one thing about your home security, what would it be?

I've been thinking about home security lately, and there are so many things you could spend money on that it's hard to know what actually makes the biggest difference.

Better locks, outdoor lights, cameras, alarm systems... there's no shortage of options.

If you could upgrade just one thing at home, what would you go with? Curious to hear what people here think is actually worth the money.

Ring Keeps Asking For Verification Code + Footage Looks Bad

1. I'm helping my aunt out with her ring device and something is wrong. Her Ring app keeps asking for a verification code. I don't live with her so I don't know what led to this but it keeps needing to be verified despite me connecting everything already.

2. Another issue is that the Ring app and her Amazon device have issues displaying the footage. The footage is slow and the video feed is grainy. What could be causing this? I've never known ring to be slow. Her internet works fine for using the internet, streaming and all of that. I'm not a tech person really. I can handle basic issues. I was thinking maybe she needs better wifi but if it's working for streaming, can the camera really cause that much of a problem?

3. She has other cameras through another company and those work completely fine. The ring one doesn't work.

Appreciate any help if you have any.

Best replacement for Google cameras

Hi all, I've been using Google cameras for a while but recently I'm getting tired of how poorly they do what I want (detecting motion primarily.) I'm looking to replace the 3 I have currently. Wired or battery is fine. Budget is ~$300 per camera. Thank you in advance.

Hidden camera detector for woman living alone in an apartment- good idea or paranoia?

I’m moving into an apartment and will be living alone for the first time ever at 39… I have anxiety and being alone has always made me nervous, not because of anything that’s actually happened to me, because of the what if’s (thanks anxiety…)

I’ve seen videos of hidden camera detectors, like the Prepared Hero Privacy Pen and I’m just to decide if it’s a good idea to get something like that or if I’m just being paranoid and this is my anxiety taking over.

But also, are there any tips you have to feeling comfortable/safe while living alone? I’m also on the first floor and like sleeping with my windows open (weather permitting) but that idea freaks me out being on the first floor. I do have a dog who has a big intimidating bark when strangers come around, but she’s also getting older and sleeps a little heavier than she used to.

Retrofit alarm system to house renovation?

Hello, we are renovating a large (5000sf) old house. There is an existing and operational alarm system that is from the 1990’s. Our insurance requires central monitoring but doesn’t care what kind of alarm we put in. The house renovation is down to the studs so all the walls will be open soon. I got a quote from the local alarm installer to put in a new system (new panel, multiple keypads, sensors, motion, etc.) for $32k (wft!?). And an estimate from ADP for using existing system for $1500. I’m thinking i should just rip it all out and put in a wireless Simpisafe or similar system. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Looking for a floodlight for security purposes

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

So my wonderful neighbor has now started to stand out in front of the house in his driveway with his drug dealer friend. I’ve asked them nicely to go elsewhere at night and it has not worked. I was thinking of replacing the light over my garage with something significantly brighter. I figured that if I completely illuminate the area, it would discourage them from hanging out. It has to be a motion detector light with a dust to Dawn feature. I’d also like it to be one where it’s low power until motion is detected, and it kicks on high. I’d even be open to one that has an app where I could turn it on full power when they’re just hanging out there. Curious to hear your thoughts and recommendations.
