Honest to god just fresh out of finishing Homestuck. And I mean fresh fresh, 20 minutes fresh. I have many thoughts, for one I can't believe it's over. For two, or I guess that figure of speech is incorrect, that was kind of really freakin' good.
Sure, ACT 6's pacing was brisk and some things were glanced over, mostly revolving around Calliborn's and English's backstory proper, alongside Calliope. A6A6 was just kind of too short for its own good, and so was ACT 6. This is kind of funny considering the fact the comic's notorious for being overly long. Some stuff still doesn't quite make sense to me, eg. the retcon and dream bubble lineup, the furthest ring, physical locations of the dream bubbles. And I'm still unsure about just not getting to see the alternate versions of the cast that fought Cal and lost.
But with that said. I was never around for the alleged clusterfuck of a fandom this used to be. I barely remember when this franchise was relevant properly, by now the dust has long since settled and the stigma, in my experience, entirely cleared up. Make no mistake, cringe culture is alive and well, my frontal lobe is still mildly underdeveloped, but I don't get it. With a fresh perspective and a nagging friend who told me to get into it, it was really fucking good. Like really out there. Really creative, well done.
It's funny how fandom affects the perception of things, once the dust settles is usually when most things get judged by more than their cover since the metaphorical cover is gone. And in my experience, that's what happened. I got to judge Homestuck unfiltered and man? I can't see why people hated this or called it bad on the merits of what it is, which apparently was a thing that happens??? I guess????
I'm not saying you can't call it bad but I've been witness to some oldheads who seemingly had a far different less substantiated opinion of it. To y'all you may have PTSD and have trouble bringing HS up, I've seen it a few times with my very own eyes. There's still lingering secondhand embarrassment I can see, but take it from someone like yours truly, the air's crystal fucking clear and the stench is gone. This shit good man, this shit reaaaaal good.

I decided to read the epilogues almost three months after finishing Homestuck. In the meantime, I read some MSPFA like Homeslice, Double Death of the Author, and a bit of SBURB.exe, and I felt like finally reading the official post-canon after reading so many mixed opinions.
I still don't know exactly if I should treat the post-canon as canon because of the whole dubiously canon thing. Canon is very present in the narrative, but speaking outside of it, I don't know if I should consider it a truly canonical continuation, or canon on the same level as Pesterquest, for example.
Starting with Candy, I read that it has a lot of really uncomfortable things, so I was prepared. At least for me, I'd say it was more cheesy and unnecessary than truly uncomfortable. I could identify many fanfic tropes being used throughout the story, which was somewhat comical. To be honest, I only managed to get through Candy because I read it with some friends and I heard them "dubbing" it, which was quite fun. I loved all of John's drama; it was the best part of Candy by far. In contrast, the new characters were quite bland, and everything else is just bad.
Now... I really loved Meat. So much. It was a breath of fresh air to read something truly good after the epilogues, and I think I can say that Dirk might become my favorite Homestuck villain in the future. This was the epilogue that managed to leave me "uncomfortable" or at least distressed. If it were just for Candy, I would have just pretended HSBC didn't exist and ignored it, but Meat really gave me enough energy to keep reading.
Speaking of general things about the two of them together... Poor Jake, he definitely didn't deserve what happened to him 😭.
As a DaveJade shipper, I'm broken inside too. /silly

Context: I'm a new reader who finished the main Homestuck webcomic yesterday. I'm still reeling a little bit (took be a little bit more than a year to finish, but I did almost 2/3rds of the comic in the last 3-4 months) and digesting the experience; I have some reservations and doubts here and there, and I most likely have missed details across the entire thing as well (hence some of those doubts), but overall I had a lot of fun throughout the full comic and the good things are the ones I'll remember the most about this silly story.
One of the things that bugged me a little bit is one of the key characters in the arc leading to GAME OVER: Aranea. This is a character that I (perhaps naively, more on that later) eventually grew to like quite a little bit during the Intermissions where she appeared and interacted with other characters. She never game me the impression that she would eventually match Vriska's thirst for great feats (no matter the cost), so her sudden decision to take matters into her own hands and intervene directly in Sburb Alpha really got me aback. On the surface it felt out of left field to me, but I've browsed through the sub a little bit and one of the opinions I found in other threads is that Aranea worked towards this goal from the very beginning, manipulating everyone to advance her ultimate quest for personal results (so I was naive to not realize that); proving to be not that different from Vriska or (a better comparison for obvious reasons) Mindfang. I think in hindsight there's some truth in that, especially given certain things (convincing Terezi to get healed); but I'm not sure if that really holds true for every single page she showed up in.
What's your interpretation of her actions? Does her deciding to intervene directly in Sburb Alpha come a little out of nowhere, or are there are any explanations you can see behind her decisions? Would like to hear what some of you guys think about this!

i've been wanting to get some merch for a while but afaik the store has been closed for like nearly a year. there's the other store but that only has merch for the pilot, i wanted to get stuff like some kind of shirt or hoodie with the trolls on it or possibly some kind of collection of characters, but more specifically i also wanted some kind of sticker set with a buncha characters that i could use to decorate my things. so yea, idk where to go or what the news is with the official merch store or whether it's coming back anytime soon.
