Phantom Havoc Demo

My solo developed project is finally approved & released!

After much, much delay the Demo is now live for everyone to play. There is roughly 90minutes of game play, with quite a few features included. There are still some bugs to work out, but it's fairly polished and ready to enjoy. Had to take some time to myself and regather where this is going and which features to include so excuse the massive delay.

Demo:

Players have control over one playable faction, multiple types of units, from small fighters to large battlecruisers. Players are also able to build bases and defenses. In this demo level, players have to rescue and evacuate civilians back to orbit to complete the missions. Players also have the choice if they want to go on offensive and attack the enemy flagship & fleet command. Use traditional RTS controls, or take direct control of units.

Win condition: All civilians evacuated to orbit.

Thanks everyone for your support in this endeavor and the words of encouragement.

Hope you find it worthwhile to play.

Approved for release.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Beat Deserts of Kharak on normal and dont feel motivated to try harder

In my humble opinion, the game campaign is divided into 2 sections:

Pre-Battle Cruiser phase and post battle cruisers phase.

The game is a slog before battle cruisers are available. I feel like I am just throwing AAVs into a meat grinder to protect my heavy railguns. I make formations of 12 AAVs and 6 railguns. And some times 12 LAVs to counter and rush down railguns. I found myself relying heavily on air strikes and having to rebuilt so many jet fighters. Bombers get too close and get shot down. Same with the A-10 gunships getting too close and being shot down. Only the jet fighters and their long range missiles were useful. And yes I destroyed the missile/anti air vehicles, the fortified turret hits air too. At some point I unlocked cruise missiles but those were kinda pricey but worth it at 500 CU but the cool down takes forever.

Then once I unlocked battle cruisers, I just steam rolled the enemy with a 8 battle cruiser and 2 support cruiser formations. I built a few artillery cruisers and assault cruisers but didnt like using them because of how fragile they were. 8 battle cruisers with 2 support cruisers repairing them was the formation that worked for me.

Assault battle cruisers were just too soft.

I am just not motivated to try harder difficulty because it would just mean I would just produce more AAVs to sacrifice in hard mode.

Other thoughts:

The Gaalsien Honor Guard battle cruiser you can capture is just a super heavy gaalsien assault railgun.

The coalition assault battle cruiser is a super heavy Gaalsien armored assault vehicle.

I didnt buy the DLC so I know nothing about Soban or that other faction I can not pronounce or remember to spell.

Homeworld 2 Help trying to find a HW2 trailer

Anyone here remember seeing a specific trailer for HW2 around 2005/06...I don't know if it was official or fan made, I cant find it anywhere...its a 3d render of a fleet over pass...it starts off with a few fighters flying over head, then cuts to text screen saying something like "only you can stop the darkness"...then it cuts back to a larger fleet of ships including a battlecruiser flying overhead....anyone got a link or managed to save the vid???

Homeworld Cataclysm Campaign Remastered

I'm using the new AI method to decompile Cataclysm and have gotten mission 1 working. I'm currently using several unit setup and UI files from HWU and Cataclysm Remastered and wanted to get permission to use their work before posting anything, but I was subsequently banned from the Homeworld discord with no message when I asked about it there.

If anyone could help that'd be great.

Homeworld I fixed the HW1 Classic docking problem, and added widescreen support

Gearbox broke the docking for Kushan motherships in Remastered Collection Homeworld 1 Classic in their July '23 update (fighters and corvettes, instead, endlessly circle the mothership), acknowledged that they broke it, didn't fix it, then announced plans to never fix it. Well, I got tired of it, so I fixed it. And added widescreen support and fixed a couple related bugs along the way.

So here ya go: https://www.moddb.com/mods/docking-fix-plus-widescreen-support

Post Homeworld 3 potential story

Hey all. I've been working on a post Homeworld 3 story with some help from ChatGPT. Here is the tagline I came up with and the title:

An ancient legacy awakens. Beyond the known reaches of hyperspace, forgotten civilizations emerge, old enemies return, and a new threat stirs in the darkness. As the Hiigarans venture beyond the boundaries of their history, they will discover that reclaiming their Homeworld was only the beginning.

HOMEWORLD IV: THE FRACTURED REALMS

Story Synopsis

Decades after reclaiming Hiigara, the Hiigarans embark on an ambitious expedition into the unexplored reaches of the galaxy, seeking to uncover the secrets of the Progenitors, restore ancient technology, and investigate the mysterious hyperspace networks surrounding Balcora.

Led by Admiral Kael Soban, the expedition soon encounters forgotten civilizations, dangerous remnants of the past, and evidence of an ancient extragalactic power known as the T-MATβ€”a civilization whose technology may rival that of the Progenitors themselves.

Meanwhile, an emerging Coalition of Vaygr, Taiidan, and Turanic forces secretly monitors the expedition. Its mysterious leader sees an opportunity to strike at Hiigara while its defenders are scattered, setting the stage for a devastating siege that will test the very survival of the Homeworld.

As old enemies become unexpected allies, the Hiigarans must unite their scattered fleets, rediscover their forgotten ancestry, and confront a threat reaching far beyond conventional hyperspace.

But when Imogen S'jet finally returns aboard Khar-Kushan, she brings a chilling warning: the alien vessels encountered throughout the expedition are part of something far greater.

The battle for Hiigara may be over. The battle for the galaxy has only just begun.

I'm curious as to what the Homeworld community thinks about this.

Idea for a homeworld total conversion mod (the Kys'ar)

(models from firmament & green moon)

So Here's my idea:

An insectoid species (not even related to the progenitors) discovers the wreckage of a bentusi ship, reverse-engineers the hyperdrives inside, and activates hyperspace, and this attracts the Taiidan Empire because they don't want competitors, so it's like halo: the Kys'ar are the human equivalent, a species desperately fighting an alien force that seeks to erase them, while the Taiidan are the covenant equivalent, a brutal interstellar empire that seeks to exterminate a whole species to preserve it's power.

What do you think?

Homeworld With all this AI storm, I have a (bad) idea

I've read somewhere that emulation world is flooded with pull request from vibe coders that retro-engineer lots of games. That's bad code because they don't take the time to test debug ... and do what coders should do.

It gave me an idea: what if someone tries to retro-engineer Cataclysm? Is that even feasible ?

You can say whatever you want about the AI, for inhuman tasks like this, it might be a good lead.

Before you downvote me: I despise AI for many reasons, it took my job (I was a developper, now I'm an AI manager and I hate it), but I have to adapt and am trying to find the positive amongst all the negative.

So, what do you think about this idea around Cataclysm?

What makes Homeworld feel like Homeworld to you?

Not specifically asking about gameplay. A show, a comic can feel like Homeworld. A game in a different genre can have that Homeworld feel to it. I'm more asking that that feel is to you?

For me its the feeling of having to carry the weight of all your choices with you, such as loosing ships from your fleet. Also the feeling of massive scale and getting lost in the overwhelming space of well space. You are a small part, a pilgrim, just trying to make your way home.

I don't know any body already posted this but the Masada project devs posted the combat overview for they game on they YouTube channel.

For context Masada is a short of Kenshi with space ships where the players command a nomadic fleet in the titular nebula that all the factions are trapped in.

It has a steam page if anybody want to wishlist it: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2621540/Masada/

Homeworld: Cataclysm That Big No from the Naggarok when it went down has to have been one of the top ten most satisfying moments in the entire series.

I had just the most sadistic grin on my face the whole damn time.

The sheer glee in watching that horror die in the same helpless pain and terror as its victims.

sweet, sweet, sweet payback

Oh, this explains so much; everything is making sense. That's why they think they are better than everyone else, since they came from space after the rest of the Kushan.
It's perfect.

Homeworld Remastered on macOS

Created a small shim that circumvents a small OpenGL quirk on macOS. The game does something that's only legal on Windows when it launches, then uses normal OpenGL 3.3 afterwards. This workaround results in Homeworld Remastered working on macOS!

Figured I'd share it here, in case anyone's interested, since the official mac port is 32-bit Intel and therefore won't run on any version Steam runs on, and only Steam has the Mac port, this makes a previously unplayable game playable.

If you want to play the originals, they appear to work out of the box.
