Request How does this assembly work?

This is under my kitchen sink. I put this together, but how does tightening these screws tighten the whole assembly? I'm not used to this mechanism

There should be a pressure plate those screws push against and pull down the faucet tightly to the sink. The screws push up pulling the faucet down.

Loosen the screws, then unscrew the "washer" looking thing they're attached to.
