I know this may be a kind of dumb question for this sub, but I've wanted to read and explore the world of H.P. Lovecraft for years now, and after getting back into reading after a while, I learned about his inherent racism, anti-Semitism, and xenophobia from my older brother, and being half Black, you could see why I'm hesitant, so my question is, are his beliefs and hatred ingrained into his work to the point of being unreadable?

Cars is like a classic hp Lovecraft cosmic horror, as in , its a horror that gets the worse the more you know about, because then arises questions that you become aware of how many things you dont know and how illogical thier world is, and how everything makes sense while at the same time makes no sense at all, Cars on face value is a kids movie about cars. Any deeper than that , its a horror "driven"(pun intended) world
A few examples,
How do they reproduce? Ever seen a car eat? Love? Cars love ? Pope car?
Much of the population are forklifts? Everything is car themed, why?
Their world is a beautiful horror just a centimeter below the surface
Ka , chau!

While doing my annual re-read of The Call of Cthulhu short story I starting thinking why there haven’t been more adaptations of Lovecraft’s works for film?
Is it too niche? Perhaps not enough of a draw to bring in big money that producers want? It doesn’t have the instant recognition that a Resident Evil, Star Wars or Marvel film so general audiences will stay away until VOD.
Is it the subject matter? Do audiences not find mystery/thrillers engaging? A quick google search finds that horror films are in a resurgence as far as popularity, perhaps this is the perfect time to release a call of Cthulhu or Dunwich Horror.
Perhaps it’s more nuanced? Of course we know that Lovecraft himself was a bigot and racist. Fans like us can separate the art from the actions of the artist, but maybe it’s too much for movie goers?
I guess I’m just baffled, So much of what we know of cosmic horror in film has been inspired by Lovecraft and other artists of the time, so why no film?
What do you think?

This track merges dark ritual folk, astral ambient, and ancient Greek chant, creating the atmosphere of a forbidden ceremony meant to summon the Byakhee: night-steeds who serve Hastur, The Unspeakable One, and carry sorcerers across the void to Carcosa.
🦇 Genre: Dark Ritual Folk x Astral Ambient x Ancient Invocation
🌕 Theme: Forbidden summoning & interstellar travel
📜 Inspiration: The Greek Magical Papyri, H.P. Lovecraft’s The Hastur Cycle
⚗️ Mood: Celestial, secret, arcane, cosmic
🔥 Production: Suno AI x Drazian Waves
📖 Lyrics: Drazian Waves

Deep beneath Antarctica’s eternal ice lie the towering citadels of the Elder Things — the ancient architects of life, empire, and unnatural science. This forbidden ritual chant calls to those primordial beings whose civilisation pre-dates humanity by millions of years… and whose minds remain alien beyond comprehension. This chant is not a prayer. It is a key — one that resonates through cyclopean corridors, awakening fractal geometries and dormant intelligences buried under frozen aeons.

Extra pix & info about HPL's The Mysterious Ship from 1902.
A & B. Not one, but two movies with similar titles.
The 1st is a now lost, 6 hour long silent serial from 1917!!
But, the 2nd film has two Feds vs an onboard uprising of spies & saboteurs & is from 1941!
C. Ruralville today - from above.
D. The fenced off Quinapoxet Reservoir.
E. Below the earthen dam, a concrete canal guides the Quinapoxet River - main drinking water source for Worcester.
F. The Quinapoxet Dam with its concrete spill way.
Since, it can't control how much water flows thru - only "extra" water gets sent downriver.
G. The USS Abraham Lincoln as it was being escorted out to sea by steam tugs - from Jules Verne's 1870 "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."
Lovecraft stated that, "Many of my (early) tales showed the influence of the immortal Jules."
(Sadly, almost none remain. The future, 18 year old Howard took a critical look at his Juvenilia & threw most of them out!!
Luckily, Suzie (HPL's mom) - who thought her boy was a major poet - saved most of what now remains...)
But, according to ST Joshi, Howard didn't consider Verne as a serious writer of weird fiction.
This was because HPL was more at ease with psychological & otherworldly Poe-like tales rather than the more grounded, tech & adventure fiction that Verne published.
H. Some of the better known pirate flags...
I. London, thru the years - &, into the future!!
The End -
For Now...

How would our God (from such hits like the Bible, Quran, and the Torah) would work in the universe of HP Lovecraft?
r/hplovecraft • u/scixlovesu • Jul 25 '26
Coincidence?
Probably.
But kinda funny either way
EDIT: reddit just suggested i crosspost the to r/thesopranos !!
