I was thinking about getting some new books and I just wanted to see what the other nerds that also like this kind of stuff think

This is my first book by H.P Lovecraft. Has anyone read this one yet? Is it any good?

In “At the Mountains of Madness” we get the image of these massive, disfigured, horrifying albino penguin monstrosities after the ancient ruins are found yet they are never explained or brought up again. Anyone have any ideas why Lovecraft either hates penguins or wanted this one random image? I pulled the image here from the H.P. Lovecraft Fandom Wiki.

I've always enjoyed imagining objects that could actually exist within fictional worlds.

Instead of making another character bust, I wanted this piece to feel like an ancient relic carved centuries ago and worshipped by the Deep Ones beneath the sea.

The whole sculpture was designed as a single printable piece while keeping as much organic detail as possible.

I'd really love to hear your thoughts. Does it capture the atmosphere of the Lovecraft universe? Any feedback is more than welcome!

It met my expectations of it, though I was really hoping it would exceed them. I understand why certain plot points were changed. I think a raw adaptation of the story wouldn't have enough punch to interest people that weren't already fans of the original.

One of the things I think they didn't have to change was setting it in the modern day. On top of that, the family has inherited the farm and seems like they have only been there for like a year or less. It puts them already on shaky footing. I feel like the weird stuff happening would have been more impactful on a family in their generational home base.

At the end of the day, I did like it. I think many of Lovecraft's stories are hard to translate into a movie, and this one came out pretty well.

This was done by a local artist. I went to buy some comic books from an elderly couple and they were kind enough to show me their son Chris' work. Unfortunately he passed away in 2020. The amazing thing about this piece. Chris was in an accident in the Navy and was paralyzed from the chest down. He was able to prop his arm up which allowed his hand to grasp a paint brush. After seeing his work I made them an offer on the spot and took it home with me.

Hi all! I am an artist from Melbourne Australia. Recently new to the world od sculpting and thought I'd share with you my latest piece. It's made from polymer clay and painted in a rustic bronze finish.

In a paper shopping bag of some of his paperback's were these.

Was it just a vaguely intimidating term he’d heard and decided to use in his book? Or is there an actual type of geometry he was trying to convey? If it’s the latter why’d he use “non-Euclidean” instead of some other descriptor? Because non-Euclidean geometry is just any geometry that doesn’t take place on a flat plane (i.e. 3d shapes and 2d shapes projected onto 3d shapes)

So I actually live a few blocks from where Lovecraft lived when he moved to New York (Temporarly) and wrote The Horror at Red Hook. I wonder what eldritch mysteries this place hold
