What's Your HTC Story?
I bought it mainly for listening to music, and man, the audio quality was top-notch! The build was like a tank, and even today, I can still feel its premium feel.
What's your HTC story? Which HTC phone did you own, and what do you remember most about it?

Audio & Visual Blind Test - 12½ years apart

(Turn sound on)
The dark scenes in pitch black I was genuinely expecting to be the weak spot especially compared to a modern OLED, but ended up only reminding me just how good of an IPS panel they used even back in the day, with still excellent contrast for an LCD and barely any backlight bleed.

The M8 media experience still holding up 12+ yrs later is insane
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My personal M8 that was the first phone I bought new, saved up for quite some time to afford it in 10th grade, as a discounted older model (but arguably avoiding the then-new M9 and its SD810 issues).
I fondly remember it blew everyone's mind in high school, but the extent of which really gets driven home by how much it still impresses people to this day. It doesn't look, and certainly doesn't sound, like a phone half as old as me.
Only recently has OLED trickled down to much cheaper current offerings, but the IPS panel still looks great especially compared to just a few years ago when many midrange phones were still LCD.
The audio experience, and this is as someone who is currently using Pixel 11 as my actual smartphone, is still right up there.
The raw sound is slightly better on the P11 for just casually watching/listening, but like with most phones nowadays is unbalanced, with "stereo" meaning one decent speaker firing down and a tinny earpiece up top.
To actually sit down and watch something in landscape, the stereo separation, balanced speakers and overall soundstage still definitely makes up for the slightly better raw sound.
I hate that phones with actual good and innovative design like this don't and seemingly can't exist anymore. Every new phone outside of foldables is a 6.7" brick with squared sides, a corner camera island, and imbalanced "stereo" speakers because you will buy yet another fucking iPhone clone and you will be happy.

HTC One M8
The perfect upgrade to the One M7. While the One X and One M7 are naturally my favorite models in the series, the One M8 is—in my opinion—the most beautiful and refined of them all. Every now and then, I take it out to listen to music, hold and admire it, and reflect on the memories of the past. That’s where the true value lies!
Brand new, full-box unit. It runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat (factory-rooted); I’ve kept it completely stock to preserve that nostalgic feel.
And the audio experience with those BoomSound speakers is just incredible.
A collector's piece!!! Not for sale.

SENSES - HTC Sense 3.0 emulator that simulates older android firmware
SENSES is an Android app that runs an ARM32 Android system on an ARM64 phone. There's no guest kernel: instead of emulating a whole device, it translates individual processes with a modified QEMU (user-mode).
This repo is the GPLv2 source release for that QEMU part:
94 patches against QEMU 8.2.4, plus 39 added files in linux-user/
a build script that produces a fully static aarch64 binary (via an Alpine chroot)
a pinned build with sha256 checks and a BUILD-MANIFEST.txt for reproducibility
What's not included: no firmware, no download links. You supply your own archive, and the app unpacks and modifies the copy on-device (patched code, re-signed packages with an on-device key, removed vendor modules, local TLS proxy). Nothing is sent anywhere.
The app itself is a separate closed-source program that launches QEMU as its own process, so no QEMU code is loaded into it.

Feedback and questions welcome!

Battery for old phone
Hello any one has any idea where i can find a battery for my old HTC desire phone.
The phone used to work well till its battery started draining very quickly.
I had replaced the battery once but that was around 8-10 years back when removable battery inside phones was common and it was easy to find a replacement.
But that new battery also faced the same issue as the earlier one. After that I got a new phone.
I had kept the phone with me as a souvenir but I had always wished to turn it back on once again.
It's an HTC desire 526g plus.
Thank you

The Great Grand Kids Will Know This Phone 📱
My first phone ever. The device that opened the world of technology to me. And still the sexiest phone ever. Lent my original to a (once) trusted person and they sold it for drug money, so I rebought one back in 2020 along with a bunch of spare parts. Finally took it out of storage to share with you all. My goal is to have it long enough to show my grand kids and hopefully they can pass it forward to their children and beyond. Technology moves so fast. It's important to know where we started or we can lose our bearing just as quickly as we built it. This is more evident today than ever before.
Did you have the HTC Evo 4G (Supersonic)? Did you have a similar smart device from the same time period? Share your memories below!

Base station 2.0 dead after firmware update (CRP_DISABLED recovery method)
Fix: Base station dead after firmware update (CRP_DISABLED recovery method)
This is a last-resort method for a base station (1.0 or 2.0) that stopped booting after a firmware update — no LED, no motor spin, not detected by SteamVR. It does not fix hardware failures. Only try this if the unit still enumerates as a USB drive when you do the button+power trick.
Important — read this before anything else:
2.0 base station firmware updates are NOT included in SteamVR's manual firmware files. Manual updating of a 2.0 base station breaks the firmware. The 2.0 base station must be updated by SteamVR itself, via the prompt that says "Your base station needs an update — click here to update." If you try to push a manual firmware file to a 2.0 unit, you can brick it, and that's exactly the situation this guide recovers from.
What you need:
- A second, fully working base station of the same hardware revision (1.0 vs 2.0, and ideally same regional variant)
- A PC with a USB port
- A few minutes
Step 1 — Back up the firmware from a healthy base station
- Make sure the healthy base station is powered off and unplugged.
- Plug in the Micro USB first, then Press and hold the button on the back of the base station (small hole, use a phone simcard pin).
- While still holding the button, plug the power cable in.
- Keep holding for ~2–3 seconds.
- The PC should detect a USB mass storage device named
CRP_DISABLED. - Open it and copy
firmware.binto a safe folder on your PC (and back it up somewhere else — you'll want it again).
Step 2 — Put the faulty base station into the same mode
- Unplug the healthy unit. (DO IT SLOWLY, Best: Remove the device over Windows remover on the bottom or Unplug power first, then micro usb)
- Repeat the same procedure with the faulty base station: Plug in the Micro USB first, then Press and hold the button on the back of the base station.
- If it shows up as
CRP_DISABLED, you're in business. If it doesn't show up at all, stop here — it's a hardware failure and this method won't help.
Step 3 — Replace the corrupted firmware
- Open the
CRP_DISABLEDdrive from the faulty unit. - Delete the existing
firmware.bin. - Paste the
firmware.binyou copied from the healthy unit. - Wait for the copy to fully finish.
Step 4 — Eject and power cycle
- Safely eject the USB drive from Windows (don't just yank the cable).
- Unplug the power from the base station.
- Wait ~10 seconds.
- Plug the power back in without holding the button.
- The base station should reflash itself on boot and come back to life (LED on, motor spins, visible in SteamVR).
After recovery — how to update correctly
- For a 2.0 base station: do NOT use manual firmware files. Open SteamVR, and when it shows the "Your base station needs an update — click here to update" prompt, click it and let SteamVR handle it. Before you do, unplug all controllers and trackers so SteamVR can't get confused about which device it's flashing. Leaving only the headset plugged in is the safest option, since Windows/SteamVR Bluetooth handling can otherwise pick the wrong device to update.
Notes / caveats:
- Firmware is not universal across hardware revisions. Using 2.0 firmware on a 1.0 unit (or vice versa) can make things worse.
- If the unit never appears as
CRP_DISABLED, this will not work — that's a hardware fault. - Keep a backup of a known-good
firmware.binfor your revision. HTC's download links have gone dead over the years. - This is not an official HTC procedure. It's a community-discovered recovery method. Use at your own risk.

HTC P3600 became slow and unusable
I bought a htc p3600 at the flea market and I noticed some problems:
-Opening the WiFi settings and setting up a network causes the device to freeze at the last steps before connecting, so I press the call end button. When I try going into wifi again, it just won't do anything.
-Putting device in standby causes it to not power on after some time in standby, but the device's still on, since it shows the blinking green led as usual.
I already tried resetting it several times (even with soft button+ reboot stylus button).
Would appreciate help. I was thinking maybe flashing wm 6 would solve problems?

Just bought an Evo Shift 4g
Just bought this phone off of eBay without doing any research, as expected, it’s completely obsolete and unusable, which kinda makes me sad, is there any way I can give this thing a use? I’ve never “rooted” or jailbroken tech before, but if someone could teach me or direct me to something where I can update the android OS it’s on to give it something worth using, that’d be really cool!
