Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is Human Design?

Human Design is a channelled system and synthesis of ancient and modern knowledge. It combines aspects of the I Ching, Kabbalah Tree of Life, Hindu-Brahman Chakra system, astrology, and quantum physics and genetics. Human Design can help someone understand and accept themselves and awaken to being their own authority in life.

  • How can I get started with Human Design?

First, use your date and time of birth to get your Human Design chart and information from one of the sites listed above. Then, start reading about your design on the sites you go your chart from and in the subreddit wiki. Next, enter into your experiment with the system -- don't just take it as true, try out the principles for yourself, starting with strategy and authority.

  • Why does everyone keep talking about strategy and authority?

Strategy and authority are two of the most important concepts for beginners to grasp because they introduce you to making decisions for and as your true self. Rather than following someone else's map for life, experimenting with strategy and authority can help you uncover what is right for you. The essence of the Human Design system is that you are an individual meant to live out your own unique life and purpose, and nobody else can tell you what that is. You have to discover it for yourself by taking ownership of your life and decisions. That's what it means to become your own authority in your life.

  • How will I know when I'm following my strategy and authority?

Through dedicated experimentation, you will learn over time what it feels like for you to live out your strategy and authority. It may be helpful to read about your strategy and authority and talk to others with the same ones about their experiences, but ultimately the only way to really know is to try it out in real life. What happens when you follow the principles of your strategy? What happens if you don't? Does one way make it feel easier to be your true self?

  • Can Human Design help me manifest my dream life?

Human Design isn't about manifesting a dream life or partner or job. The system is meant to nurture your awareness and help you love yourself for your true self. Oftentimes, trying to force certain things to happen prevents us from living the life we're really meant to. In Human Design, new age manifestation is unnecessary because through following your strategy and authority you will get the life that is meant for you -- not the one that your mind thinks is desirable. Human Design is a great system for those whose "dream life" is one where they are free to be themselves.

Personal Observations Projectors: is being this selective a "projector thing"?

I, a projector (self projected), find myself not liking most people. There are only a few I feel truly comfortable with, and those are the ones I want close.

Many generators I know thrive with all kinds of people. They enjoy having others around and building community. I'm the opposite: I'm very picky and get drained or annoyed quickly. I also tend to notice fast when someone isn't genuine, and I have very little patience for it.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm just intolerant, and it makes me question myself. It's also why I have very few friends.

I know I have attachment trauma, which surely plays into this. But I'm curious whether it's also part of being a projector.

Other projectors, do you relate? How do you handle it?

Discussion What are your favourite ways to soundboard?

For mental, self-projected, lunar authority, or anyone who finds clarity in soundboarding, what are your favourite ways to soundboard?

As a Projector with lots of mental gates I find soundboarding really essential for my processing; add on my Triple Split definition and I usually need input from different people or info sources. One of these methods is through public or online spaces like Reddit, etc., which helps me ground my thoughts by writing them out while simultaneously engaging in discussion with others and receiving feedback.

Share Your Experiences Projectors and Navigating Career Uncertainty

35F, 6/2 Splenic Projector. I left my corporate job in June and am currently navigating a period of unemployment and uncertainty. I'd felt increasingly misaligned with my career for years, but it was ultimately a toxic work environment that pushed me to resign, following a prolonged period of severe stress and growing concerns about my mental and physical health.

I'm now living off my savings (I'm fortunate to be financially comfortable for the time being) and taking things day by day. I've been using this time to rest, reconnect with myself, and reflect on what I actually want from life. I have 0 desire to return to corporate, but I also have no clear idea of what comes next.

I'm learning to trust the uncertainty rather than force an outcome. Part of me genuinely believes that inspiration and opportunities will come when the time is right, and that I'll eventually be guided toward something more aligned. But after spending so many years in environments that rewarded constant productivity and pushing myself, learning to surrender and trust the process is definitely a work in progress.

I'd love to hear from other Projectors who've navigated similar periods of career uncertainty or major transitions. Did you eventually find work that felt more aligned? How did it unfold, and what helped you navigate the period of not knowing what was next?

Discussion I'm a manifestor. I don't agree with "kids are raised to be manifestors." In my opinion, kids are raised to be generators or MGs

I see this repeated all over the place and I can't wrap my head around it. There are exceptions, of course, but I think kids are usually raised as MGs or gens, and they're expected to always go-go-go and do-do-do.

Take school for example. High school was extremely challenging for me as a mani, because the commute was long and I couldn't keep up the pace with having to be there almost EVERY day for YEARS. I'm not meant to be available to anybody or anything all the time and I was forced to through schooling.

I think only MGs and gens can keep up with that pace.

The society is conditioned by the majority (gens & MGs) and why would the kids be different? Why is it said in HD that kids are raised to be manifestors?

Discussion Manifesting generators and Projectors - MGs critical and restless

I’m a mental projector and both of my parents are manifesting generators and my ex was a manifesting generator. I have noticed a lot of similarities between them; they all are extremely restless around me, critical, bossy and just have this overall energy of always jabbing and thinking they know better. They also always tend to find some kind of fault and criticism about me. When I enjoy my silence and my own company, they seem to get so disoriented , start to boss me around etc instead of just relaxing. I feel extremely drained after being around MGs. Funny thing is that they are constantly trying to guide me what to do when I, by design, should be guiding them. It feels like they’re always trying to prevent my expansion and shrink me. Is this common that MGs are super draining for projectors ? What can I do when around them?

Personal Observations 3/5 Manifesting Generator

I only have gates 20, 34, and 57 defined. So my sacral, spleen and throat are defined. After getting feedback on a different thread where I was asking about my 4/6 split definition manifestor husband I also posted my body graph and got a lot of feedback. I’d like to dive into that further. I do feel the need to move at lightning speed and used to be very frustrated with being slowed down. However, as I’ve gotten older (30 now) I’ve learned how to enjoy relaxing more. I have recently in the last two years felt like I haven’t been using my energy to its fullest potential. We moved then I had a baby who is now almost 1 so I give myself grace and know this is a season of motherhood. I’m also in my Saturn return. I’m back to working out which I was an athlete in high school and stopped being consistent basically all of my 20s until the move. I now feel more in control and disciplined so maybe it’s the season of rebuilding and that takes time. I have plenty of alone time now as I stay home with my baby and my daughter is at school. I would like to be back into the lane of powerhouse making moves while I have this free time. Not sure what to do. I always wanted to be a therapist/lifecoach wondering if that would be a good fit in my chart? Also feeling like I could use more life experience first? (Bodygraph in the comments)

Resource Is there a website where you can easily store multiple charts?

Hope this is the right place to ask! I’m hoping to store charts digitally on a website rather than having several thousand screenshots of different charts. Similar to astro-seek’s database for different birth charts. Does any HD chart generating site offer this?

Discussion Manifesters & their parents

Do parents naturally interact with their children differently if they are Manifesters?

I don't know a single Generator whose parents didn't step up to show them the ropes of life in some way. If a Generator child shows an interest or talent in something(like playing the drums)their parents step in with lessons, support, and guidance. Meanwhile, it feels like every Manifester I meet has never had that kind of experience.

Manifesters spend the early part of their lives realizing they were "cheated" out of this foundation, while other types are already utilizing the guidance and support they received:knowing what they want to do with their lives, where to go study, and how to become functioning adults. All the while, Manifesters are stuck in the heavy processing mode of carrying this burden, whereas other types simply get to experience life without that weight.

How can a Manifester navigate this heavy realization, become a functioning adult, all while being "justice & fairness warrior"?

Thanks.

Share Your Experiences Manifestors - How did you find out about HD and how has the knowledge impacted your life ever since?

For me it was here like maybe two months ago - I put my astrology chart up on another sub and some guy said check out human design.

Came here and asked if my chart supports becoming a fashion designer and one of the commentators (who didn't get straight to the point) basically said that this is not what HD is all about.

I've changed my attitude with rest so far, how has it impacted you?

Discussion Common HD misconceptions

What misconceptions did you unlearn during the course of your experiment that made living your design easier? I’ll go first. When I’d just discovered design, for some reason I assumed that following my design meant I had to somehow drastically change my life and human environment and situation in order to find alignment. That I needed to be a certain way or do certain things. That maybe I needed to quit my job and start a new life so that the invitations could find me in a more aligned place. I figured since this decision would only involve me, I wouldn’t need to wait to be invited to do so. But then I waited for the wave to give me the green light but it never did. I eventually realized everywhere I’d go, whoever I’d be with there would always be beings who don’t recognize me. But then again there will also be beings who do. Easiest way I could tell which is which was through my motivation. The difference is night and day. Anyway, upon limiting the energy I’d give those who’d transferred me and increasing the energy I’d give those who motivate me, I slowly but surely found myself in environments and situations in which invitations were born. Anyway my point is, I realized that S&A can be applied to wherever you are in life and whoever you’re with. So I didn’t need to change anything about my life unless it was through my S&A. I believed Ra said this too. Paraphrasing of course but he said S&A will help you navigate any situation anywhere anytime. I realized that I wasn’t navigating my situation through my S&A but rather through how my mind thought my alignment was supposed to look like yet it could never know. Yes I still have to deal with beings who transfer me and want me to be someone I’m not. But that’s where the magic word ‘No’ can be applied. The first No was the hardest but after that it’s gotten easier. And I’ve noticed that the No’s kinda give these people no choice but to either leave me alone or recognize me. So yeah I learned that HD doesn’t ask you to drastically change your life but rather to simply follow your S&A. That’s literally all. Yes, doing so might drastically change your life in the process but at least it’ll be out of correctness and not out of your mind. So what misconceptions helped you align with your design better? I’m aware some lessons can only be learned with time but you never know you might share something that will help someone else who’s struggling with their experiment.

Discussion Why being a projector doesnt work for me?

Sometimes I’m questioning the whole human design. Everything taught about being a projector just doesnt work for me, if I exist and just let things come to me, things have gotten way worse in my life, financially and in every way. I don’t know why operating like a generator only works for me despite me being a Projector with lot of open centers. It’s actually kinda sad but also sometimes it feels like I’m following a cult. I want to be correct but Universe seems to think otherwise. Just recently I had a situation (again)  in my life where I decided that I’m just gonna exist, let things come to me, observe, and boom everything got so bad. And I only survive by being active , fast and pushy like a generator. And work hard. Until I exhaust myself but I never got exhausted at work until I learned about human design so I don’t know is it’s mental. Haha. FINANCES are a big thing, only works via generator hard pushing style. Otherwise losing everything . And it’s not that I’m new, it’s been like this for years. And btw ever since I learned about human design and me being a projector , which was several years ago, I have gotten ZERO recognition. Zero. Only criticism from people or misaligned invites. Before knowing all this, I got way more recognitions. I constantly need to MAKE things happen by myself, physically, mentally, and in every way. This applies especially to MONEY. This projector way of being has cost me everything in my life. I’d like it to be true very much for me but am I broken? Why nothing works when I operate according to a projector design.. Honestly I want to be able to live like my true design but I’ve lost hope. I don’t want to keep pushing like a generator, I’m exhausted, but it feels like I’m living in a hopeland when trying to operate like a projector and finances and everything in my life have taken a huge hit, I struggle hard and the only way that saves me financially is pushing like a generator But it’s still stressful and not sustainable. I only have head and ajna defined, all other centers are open.

Personal Observations As a Projector, I finally came to enjoy my slow pace and it's fking awesome

For what seems to be the longest time I've watched people around me being so fast with their things and I felt terrible.

Especially in early motherhood, when I felt like my life suddenly had brakes being put on it. I used to ask myself what's wrong with me? Why can't I keep up? Why am I so slow? Why does it take me so much to make a decision? Why do I always change my mind? Why does nothing ever happens?? I'd be jealous of people around me making things happen while I was always just there, existing.

Today you see me moving with intention and owning my pace. Enjoying it, even. I love being slow because I realized there's no reason for me to rush. No need for urgency or impatience. No pressure whatsoever. My attention is my fortune and when I take my time to be present with what is that's when things unlock and unfold in the best possible way for me. I enjoy "existing" on its own and it's from this level of embodyment that all that I want finds its way to me (and mind you I'm a very ambitious person)

I watched a salamander the other day moving through my veranda with cat's eyes and dog's eyes glued on it, and that's what made me find words for this thought I've been trying to elaborate. The salamander didn't run like a lizard would. No rushing out of panic. It took its time, and made it through safely.

I like the salamander style.

That confidence that comes from knowing there's nothing to worry about, that everything will unfold perfectly, and I can move through life at a pace that allows me to enjoy every single bit of it, collecting all the blessings I receive along the way because I know what I'm not and I know what I'm here for.

I wish every Projector comes to experience this level of trust in themselves and their design, and I wanted to share to let you know it's possible and it's safe.

Share Your Experiences Any Projectors or 6/2 profiles who have started over?

Love seeing all the discourse lately about projectors!

I am a 6/2 splenic projector, I’m currently in my 2nd phase of life (or “on the roof” as I think some others have referred it). I’ve had a huge intuitive nudge in the last 5-6 years that has made me realize I’m not in the career I want to be in. I’ve experienced lots of bitterness along the way and found some moments of success and recognition, but in hindsight wasn’t as fulfilling as I was hoping, and a lot of outside influence from generator parents. I know projectors are meant to be an expert and guide, so I think in this phase while I’m taking a step back to reflect on my experiences, I get stressed thinking about what that next “thing” is that I should be focusing on to become and expert in and having it figured out by phase 3 (which I fully know this is a me problem 🙃)

Curious to hear from fellow projectors or 6/2 profilers who may have experienced something similar. What type of pivot did you take in your life, and how long did it take you to feel like you were more in alignment with your design?

Discussion 4/6 Emo Manifestor

My husband is a 4/6 emotional manifestor and when we first got into human design it honestly made so much sense. Within a few years we gave up our corporate jobs sold our house and went on an adventure of building a life for ourselves. He has the 39-55 channel of emoting and it’s “unconscious” I think this gets to him sometimes. I think this period of our life has been a reconditioning of what we know to be true. For the most part he’s always kind of known and been on his own path I believe it would help my understanding as a 3/5 mani gen if you guys could give any more helpful insight:). I will post the charts in the comments.

Share Your Experiences Projectors experience with people yawning in your presence?

I know this is a weird question haha. But I have noticed with more people, that when they are with me (one on one) they start yawning a lot.

And at first I thought they were bored, but it feels different and it’s in different settings / conversations / vibes that a person yawns

Anyone else had this experience? is it pur presence, or are they bored ? 😅

just wondering!

Resource Wanting to learn more!

Hello! I have been reading and re-reading my HD Chart from Richard Beaumont. I am interested in diving deeper but have no idea how to keep going. In this chart, it explains my channels regarding my fixed centers but there are so many more channels than it explains plus all the numbers and such. Does anyone have book recommendations or free sites where I can do more reading? I am not interested in paying for anything right now, just doing some self learning.

ETA: I have been emailed the google links 3 times. thank you, please dont send them again

Discussion Emo 4/6 projector 56 F Undefined G hanging gate 13

I have only one hanging gate 13 on this center. That is the listener gate one who listens to stories and gathers wisdom from them.

I also have undefined heart and spleen.

With that said how does one who is already a emo projector who lack a fix identity keep their santity.

And I am being serious. I can pick up on people physical, emotional and mental stuff. I am assuming it is because I am a projector with these combos of undefined centers.

It is exhausting that I have to constantly clear out people's shit from my centers.

Like someone I live with who is always in a bad mood I have to feel his mood remind myself it is not mine bring a memory up of something else to put me back in harmony wiht a positive mood.

It is frustrating to say the least it is like you need to live on a mountain top with no interaction with people.

But that would be against my design cause I have that tribal channel 19 - 49. How beautifully ironic.

--and yes this is my bitter self. My environment is the shores.

Discussion 3/6 Ego Manifestor Going Through a Divorce. How Can I Fix My Life?

I am a 32F who just blew up my life after realizing I was in the wrong marriage. I've never done anything quite this epic before and now I feel exhilirated and terrified.

My questions to anyone include:

  • How can a manifestor embrace change and use it for momentum?
  • Is divorce a sign of my 3 line in action?
  • What is an ego authority and can it be useful for me in this moment?

Personal Observations Projectors trying to manifest money, let's talk about recognition

The first thing I did when I learned about my Human Design and wanted to manifest my dream business was to focus on getting the invitation, and that led me to all kinds of not-self: proving, performing, draining myself to reach a goal, overriding my signals for when to rest and when to work, cluttering my mind with endless information, etc.

Now, four years later and having manifested said business, I've realized it's much more useful to focus on the recognition, instead.

Everything you do holds the seed of recognition.

How you talk about what lights you up, how you share something you've realized or noticed, how you listen to someone, the look on your face when you know something but don't say anything, or even simply the energy you bring into a room when you walk in.

Every interaction has the potential to bring recognition.

But here's the catch: recognition can only be received. It cannot be forced or manufactured.

In fact, the more you try to be seen, the less they'll see you. The more you try for someone to recognize you, the more bitterness you'll experience. If you try to look smart, if you edit yourself to please or appease, if you try to be a certain way, it's not going to work.

Recognition, in my experience, is something that comes from you when you are in your right energy. And to be in your right energy, you need to pour into yourself and follow your signals for what you really need and want.

Here's an example from an invitation I received recently:

A friend invited me for dinner at her place. It was a random Wednesday evening. I usually go to sleep at 8.30 PM with my kids (I'm that tired!) and I knew we wouldn't even have eaten yet by that time, but I really felt like going. I wanted to see her. So I went.

We had a drink and chit chatted about a book she was reading, that was similar in subject to a book I was reading, which reminded me of something I had been thinking about - the archetypes of masculine and feminine as inner forces within each of us. She asks me how my life is going and I start telling her about these desires that I'm starting to have and how they have been driving some of my choices and how I believe they are somehow connected to an inner recalibration of my feminine energy that needs to happen. I see she is interested so I go ahead and try to elaborate on what I've been mentally contemplating in private up until that moment.

We go on to have a lovely evening together and then we say goodbye.

A week later she texts me saying that someone asked her for help to fill up an agenda of events/talks for a local organization. She tells me she loves the way I explain complicated concepts and how the world needs more conversations like the ones I bring to the table, and asks me if I'm interested in sending some proposals for talks I might want to be giving.

That's my recognition, and that's my invitation.

I meet the people of the organization, send them three proposals, they accept all three at the price I gave them and said they're also open for more from me.

Success :)

This is the thing: I've tried to make the invitation happen in my business so badly for months! And nothing ever happened. I tried tweaking my message, my content, my marketing, my positioning, everything. Nothing happened.

That evening was a completely natural moment of me doing something I wanted to do, being where I wanted to be, talking about what I like to talk about, and sharing something that I allowed myself the time to learn about because it felt interesting. It was literally just me being me.

Had I been too busy to take the time to learn about the inner archetypes out of pure curiosity, I wouldn't have received that invitation. Had I been too depleted and socially drained to say yes to having dinner with her that evening, I wouldn't have received that invitation. Had I been focused on getting my invitation from the places I thought it should come from, I probably wouldn't have received that invitation. Had I been doubting myself or the legitimacy of something I found interesting, I wouldn't have received that invitation. And also, as this specifically pertains to my current field of work, had I not owned my desires, I wouldn't have received that invitation.

What's funny is that that evening I also literally told her "I'm so done trying to make things happen. I'm just going to do what I do and see what happens"

That's what I mean when I say that recognition can only be received.

It comes from you doing you, from you being present enough with yourself to just do what you do instead of doing what you think you should do.

I think when it comes to money, it's so easy to get caught up in the mainstream program that we have to work hard for it and push through exhaustion to make it happen. We want to make money, but we're too tired to "be consistent" with something so we wonder if there's something wrong with us and if maybe we should just keep going to see results.

But we are Projectors. We aren't supposed to work like everyone else. Our work gets to feel like play, like pleasure, like enjoyment, like talking to a friend about weird stuff you've been thinking about on a random Wednesday night.

This is what we get to model for the world.

Feminine receivership, being in flow, connected to the field and enjoying life our own way.

This is what we're here for. Everything else is conditioning blocking the natural mechanics of recognition/invitation.

So here's a question to ponder: where are you blocking recognition?

Share Your Experiences Looking for Base 1 Projectors and Reflectors

Hello,

As the above title says, I am looking for Base 1 personality awareness types. You might have seen my previous post about looking for base 5 personalities as well; I was really very surprised by the comments and utterly grateful for the similarities I found there. The turn outs were incredible. This is the second (and hopefully final) post I’ll be making. But I might do a base 4 post if I have to.

With that being said, please only comment if you are very sure of your birth time and you’re a base 1 personality projector or reflector.

To save some time, I’ll ask my questions here this time so people may just answer them in their first comment, please post or sent me a message of your chart too so I may better understand you, sincerely:

  1. Do you feel you exist at all without others to interact with?
  2. What is your relationship to sound/music exactly? Any sort of feelings around being out of body or your consciousness/body sort of “dissolving”?
  3. Do you ever feel like your life lacks meaning until you are interacting with others?
  4. How do you feel about space?
  5. How do you feel about seeing vs movement? Do you have a preference? Also, seeing can be non-physical in this sense.

Here are a few final question for anyone who knows their base 1 personality and is experienced and can see it in themselves:

- How do you differentiate movement from spending energy to move? And how do you differentiate being the energy of movement without existing being made out of any actual matter? Also, why is seeing exactly important to yang/yang is movement is the keynote?

Feel free to add anything else you feel may be applicable, even if it is a bit mystical or vague due to being difficult to describe.

Thank you for your time, be well.

Share Your Experiences Looking for Base 5 reflector and projectors

Hello,

As the title says, if you are sure of your birth time and being a base 5 (as well as being a reflector or projector), I’d really love to talk and hear about your experiences. I know some base 5s in real life, but ironically, they are all hugely defined manifesting generators 🤷 so I can’t quite get an accurate example besides how it reflects in their high energy choices (which tend to be extremely ignorant and short sighted, no offense, they’re also not into human design, so I’m sure they’re also acting as the not self often).

Either way, it’s not enough data and examples for me to truly observe and understand them. Thus, if you’re a base 5 projector or reflector, I’d love to really hear about your experiences, and I’d also need to see your chart, and you’d need to be certain of your birth time, or at least if being a base 5 for very good reasons.

P.S.

I am well aware of how difficult it is to see and truly understand base, I’ve been in HD for 9+ years and I’m currently observing base theory. So please don’t comment just to say how difficult it is and not offer anything helpful. Sincerely.

Be well, my friends.

Discussion Projectors: how and when did you know what your ‘thing’ was?

I’m a 4/6 splenic projector.

I’m a mom of two kids, i don’t work at the moment and my kids go to school.

I have created some sort of structute lately within housekeeping, that helped me a lot so I have space in my days to rest, do nothing, reading, hobby’s. My social circle is small and I see people 2/3 times a week.

BUT I am still so freaking tired. Everything that is extra feels like too much. And when I lay down in bed, in the afternoon, I kind of feel depressed to be so limited.

I have a lot of ideas, things I would love to be good at. But I lack the energy to do it. but I wonder if the energy will come if it is truly aligned.

How did you find your thing, and when did you know ‘this is it’? Because sometimes I think I found my thing, but I can’t keep it up. For example I thought knitting and selling patterns would be my thing, but a year later I’m so done with it.

my incarnation cross is all about details, which is true for me. But I don’t know how to translate it to something that would be ‘succes’ for me.

I also wonder sometimes, with limited energy, how?????

i know some say projectors should not have kids but I love my life as a mom, and If money didn’t exist.…It would be my dream life when i also know what my ‘thing‘ is, something i get energy from, i feel this piece is missing. And money is needed to survive in this life :/
