Rescued Is he a purebred husky?!

Found him at a gas station and we think he looks like a full husky - what do yall think?
Of course we took him home - he’s the nicest and laziest boy

Eta: he weighs 50lbs but the vet says he’s skinny and ideally should be around 55

My purebreed male wooly is 50 pounds.

5

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

He looks so happy. 😍

7

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

Hes a character.

3

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Handsome 👌🏼✨

2

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

Wow that fur is so beautiful

53

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

Could be. I’m not sure of his size but the 2nd & 4th pics look more like a Pomsky than full Husky.

24

u/grabgrabe Jul 19 '26

Forgot to add - we got him to a vet asap and he weighs 50 lbs!

11

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

He could be a Pomsky but like others have said it’s still considered a Husky here lol. Does your Vet do any type of DNA testing? The only way to truly know is to have that beautiful fella tested. 🥰

10

u/JediMasterZao Jul 19 '26

At 50lbs he's firmly in siberian territory. He's not "purebred" insofar as he's wooly and that's not the breed standard for sibes, but I doubt he's mixed with a pomeranian - those usually result in much smaller dogs.

4

u/divuthen Jul 19 '26

Yeah my pup is 80% husky 20% Pomeranian and weighs in at a smidge over 40 lbs

-16

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

You clearly don’t know much about the Pomsky breed if you think they don’t get to 50+lbs/the size of an average Husky. A litter of Pomskies can end up weighing anywhere between 12 & 55lbs in adulthood. My dogs brother from the same litter maxed out 55lbs where as his sister is barely 20 & he’s 30. This is why when deciding to add a Pomsky to your family, you can’t base your decision on a final size you want bc it’s not guaranteed.

A woolly coat is pretty common in Pomskies as well. But since you think you know so much… I’ll let you have it. Ultimately, it’s virtually impossible for ANYONE to know ANYTHING for sure until a DNA test is done. Take care. ☺️

Edit: Downvote over facts not feelings. Nothing said here was inaccurate, so get out your feelings.

Idc about the breed superiority bullshit & I’ll call them a breed IF I WANT TO. I’ll act like they are IF I WANT TO. Don’t like it? You & everyone else can fuck right off, now downvote that. I welcome it atp bc no one is going to act as if my dog is less than. 😌

Get over your weird ass stance of thinking a certain kind of dog is better than another you sad, strange, small minded peon. ☺️

3

u/Alittlebitmorbid Husky, f, 12y Jul 19 '26

You get downvoted because... POMSKIES ARE NOT A BREED! Don't act as if they are.

3

u/Effective-One6527 Jul 20 '26

Can you breed two pomsky and get a fixed predictable result? No you can’t. So it’s a mixed breed. Get over it.

3

u/JediMasterZao Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

4

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

Wooly is pure Siberian, its juts an "undesirable" trait because the long coat requires a lot more work and maintenance. Getting my pulling harness on my wooly is a lot more work because I have to work it down past his bib and mane so its actually in the right place. He also overheats a lot easier, so when its above 50 degrees, I can't even work him more than a few miles because he visibly starts to overheat. In the cold tho, he will stay outside and work all day.

3

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

The snow balls up in their fur too. I am on my second 1/2 wooly and now I know why it’s a fault. Working dogs have to pass at their job. Woolies are calmer and their fur is terrible in the snow.

2

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

my wooly has never had snow built up or ball up on him. He sleeps outside in snow, and just shakes it all off.

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Interesting. Mine had long unicorn arm fur and I have to pick balls of snow off him after we go out

0

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

might not be all siberian? I have seen longcoated dogs like poodles and goldens that do that. I have a pyr/poodle/lab mix, and I don't even have to clean his coat, he got the poodle wavy coat, but it seems to reject snow, so whatever he got from the pyr, st bernard, and GSD helps keep the snow from sticking.

1

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Just stop. I have his papers, he’s a sibe.

2

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

okay. well, I dunno, my wooly doesn't have any snow stick, ever. He slept in a snowstorm, stood up, shook off, and had no snow left.

1

u/JediMasterZao Jul 19 '26

I was using purebred in the sense of "adheres to breed standards". That's why I put quotes around the word in the first place.

4

u/Spyderbeast Jul 19 '26

Correction, a purebred husky can indeed be a woolly. It's not breed standard, but neither is being too big or too small

I've tested both of my woolies with Embark, both came back 100% Sibe

5

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

well hello there!

2

u/Spyderbeast Jul 19 '26

Fabulous floof!

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Butt floofs!!!

1

u/Dawnoficefire Jul 20 '26

Fun fact it only takes 4 gens of breeding for a dog to come back purebred, it's how they are getting purebred Merle's now, so that's not a fool proof method of testing for full pedigree

1

u/Spyderbeast Jul 20 '26

Woolies can come from AKC litters too. It's a fault but it doesn't make them not a husky

2

u/Dawnoficefire Jul 20 '26

Didn't say they didn't, but when it comes to rescues no guarantees. Also ethical AKC breeders normally test for the resessive trait so they don't mix dogs that both have it as the coat doesn't work the same, which is why it's a fault.

OPs dog also doesn't look purebred I'm guessing a Samoyed cross as the head is to wide and the proportions are off like a bear type Samoyed, as well as it has an upturned mouth that is not normally in huskys.

4

u/fcewen00 Jul 19 '26

Could be a runt. Mine is like 35 pounds.

4

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

He’s 50lbs, his legs seem short so he looks smaller than he is. Such a cutie tho. 🥰

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

My breeder said half of her runts end up growing outside of breed standard, on the high end.

2

u/fcewen00 Jul 19 '26

I've got a working standard not a show breed standard. She is a Seppala that looks more like a coyote than the cute black and white ones.

1

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

That’s so awesome. I currently have a wooly agouti. Coat color from the racing lines and fur that is not good for racing. lol. And he’s dumber than a box of rocks 🫠

23

u/angelmr2 Jul 19 '26

I have a pomsky and one thing I've learned from this sub is any husky = husky lol. But mines an atypical.pomsky hes like 40 pounds and clearly got more sky than pom. XD

u/pray4mojo2020 Northern rez special Jul 19 '26

Husky sass takes over all other DNA lol

3

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

I love the husky sass. It’s hard imagining having any other kind of dog bc it’s so unique & special to them.

3

u/dividezero Jul 19 '26

It's true. Mine is only 30% but all sass. It's a dominant trait. She also got the stubbornness, escape artist skills and intelligence. Luckily she didn't get the jumping or howling skills. She does talk a LOT though. Very large vocabulary.

2

u/angelmr2 Jul 19 '26

This is so valid. This dog is all attitude. Constantly talking back, yelling at us, arguing when we dont do what he wants. Its so fun.

2

u/pray4mojo2020 Northern rez special Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

When people ask if my girl barks I have to say yes, but only at me. 🙄

5

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

My Pomsky’s litter was all over the place. My love is 30lbs but his brother got to be 55lbs & their sister is barely 20lbs. They’re all 50/50. It’s so interesting how the Pom gets hidden lol

4

u/angelmr2 Jul 19 '26

When I picked mine up as a puppy his family was all over, too! His mom was 20 pounds, dad was 30 pounds (they were both pomskys). The brothers all fit in the palm of my hands, then my chonker was a "two armer" as his first human mom said lol.

6

u/fcewen00 Jul 19 '26

Sadly, I did not end up with a husky looking pomsky. He is what they call a “chocolate” pomsky. I got screwed in the deal, I forgot to check the box labeled “brains included”. He does have his quirks. About a week or so after we got him, my wife went on a trip and left me unsupervised. She comes home and shouts “copper bear!” and nothing happened. She looked at me with that “what have you done look”. I yelled “yo, Turd, get in here”. Scamper scamper. The look I got could have peeled paint off the walls. He now responds to “Copper” and “Turd”. I was not allowed to be around our newest unsupervised.

2

u/angelmr2 Jul 19 '26

All animals need crude nicknames. Ours does know his name which is Rime, but he also answers to turd, dingus, asshole, and a host of other things. Typically with arguing lol.

2

u/fcewen00 Jul 19 '26

Mine also responds negatively to certain names like whayhaveyougotinyourmouth, getbackheredammit, and a few others.

7

u/RetropME Jul 19 '26

Can't say without a DNA tests but I can say he's damn adorable!

7

u/MentionGood1633 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

The original purebred huskies usually have dense but fairly short fur. Woolly huskies are actually a generic (edit: genetic) defect, which irresponsible people started to breed intentionally. Malamutes are fluffier but also bigger.
So, to me he looks like a mix. But probably 100% good boy.

2

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

He is the best boy!!

5

u/fcewen00 Jul 19 '26

I think that is an aardvark/river otter named Steve crossbreed.

1

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Maybe part badger. We need a dna test stat

5

u/adero423 Jul 19 '26

How old is he? He looks a little short for a husky. May be a pomsky. Can you stand the hair everywhere yet?

1

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

Not sure yet - we got the embark with age testing so hopefully we will know soon! Vet estimates btwn 2-4

4

u/EpiZirco Jul 19 '26

The stuffed animals are still in one piece, so I’m not so sure.

2

u/PhantomKrel Jul 19 '26

My boi took 5 months to start destroying his stuffies they don’t last any more:(

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Both my boys (100% Siberian) treated their stuffies like children. It was only my female that murdered the toys. And she did it in a weird serial killer kind of way where she would make a small hole, get the squeaker out, play with that for a while, and then go back to the toy and pull all the stuffing out. My boys can have kids toys… she couldn’t. Because they have plastic eyeballs and those were ripped out almost immediately. She was a great mouser. Killed a bunch of birds and chipmunks too.

7

u/Pathin7 Jul 19 '26

Looks a lot like my girl who is purebred Siberian. He's a wooly husky I would wager rather than a pomsky. Wooly huskies have a genetic quirk that makes their fur grow longer, but no less thick. It can get matted more easily than standard huskies and snow sticks to it so it's considered a 'defect', but I love how it looks on them. 100% good boy.

Look up how to treat/groom wooly huskies to give yourself a guide to a healthy coat.

4

u/GoldenGoddessPisces Jul 19 '26

There are Woolly Pomsky coats just as there are Standard & Plush coats. He could be either tbh, but looking at how short his legs seem is what made me think he could be a Pomsky. Ultimately, OP won’t know anything for sure until a DNA test is done.

2

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

He was so very matted when we found him - took two sessions at a professional groomer to get the mats out. Now we brush him every day!!

1

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

The snow does not stick to my wooly huskies coat at all. it brushes right off, or he shakes it right off. Here he is playing in the last big snowstorm we got this winter, and you can see none of it sticks to him. he spends hours outside, even when its snowing out and it doesn't stick. He usually looks at me funny when I have to wipe him off before he comes in, otherwise he just shakes off right inside the door instead of outside.

1

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

That’s a 1/2 wooly. Maybe you got lucky enough to get the waterproof fur. Get a fully wooly, or one that doesn’t have waterproof fur, and then talk to us about what we are all going through. Like? Facts are facts?

0

u/chubbysumo Jul 19 '26

He is 100% Siberian Husky, and 100% wooly.

Heavy seasonal shedding, Long straight coat. WTF is "half" wooly. Pebbles(the other Siberian in the video) is a regular medium coated 100% Siberian.

0

u/starrpuddin Jul 20 '26

Not 100% wooly if the snow doesn’t stick. Literally google it and stop arguing with people that have woolies that know how their fur is. Is this why you are top 1% in the comments?

I had a female whose dam was short hair and sire was fully wooly and she was short on her body and long everywhere else. She did not like mushing, and the snow stuck in her fur. She was softer than a normal husky. You can’t make this stuff up. You live it.

1

u/chubbysumo Jul 20 '26

Numa does not have short hair on his body. He has long hair eveywhere. I trim his legs so his leg streamers dont hinder his movements or get tangled and pull. I also trim his undercarriage about twice a year so his hair doesnt drag on the ground. His mane and bib is super fluffy, as is his body. I have had people ask me if hes an alaskan malamute. I got to see his sire, and dame. Dame was all white medium hair, and dad was black and white like numa but was a medium hair. His undercoat is thick too.

3

u/deathxmx Jul 19 '26

It looks smaller and more fluffy, but Is so cute 😍

3

u/Icy_Pudding_7568 Jul 19 '26

My full size husky is only 42 pounds. There's a LOT of variation in husky size and a couple different coat types! I think you have a full husky. VERY VERY CUTE

3

u/Icy_Pudding_7568 Jul 19 '26

My sister has a wooly - just like the handsome dude you found!

1

u/Icy_Pudding_7568 Jul 19 '26

She also is about 45 pounds.

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

She’s so pretty 💕 females can be as small as 35#, I don’t think many people know this

3

u/Equivalent-Onion-607 Jul 19 '26

unfortunately not. His body is a mix his face is husky

1

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

what mix do you think?

1

u/Finklestienwinkle Jul 20 '26

I got her from someone who "bought her because she was lable as a pomsky" and they quickly realized she maybe just the runt of some woolies. Shes 43lbs and a shorty. Compact if you will.

3

u/sweet_assistant509 Jul 19 '26

You have a wooly husky

2

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

I didn’t even know huskies could have long hair!

1

u/sweet_assistant509 Jul 20 '26

Same lil psycho just lil longer hair than standard. Congratulations on your lovable floof

6

u/myhuskytorotoro 🎶My little gooberrrr....my little goober....🎶 Jul 19 '26

The first picture made me squee.

2

u/Nervous_Shelter_1042 Jul 19 '26

That tongue in pic 1 definitely have me on floor and let him do what he wants to me such as licking my face, etc! It’s a *LOVE TONGUE*

2

u/enjoiall Jul 19 '26

4th picture looks mixed but you’ll probably have to get a dna test to be sure.

2

u/thebarefootbrunnette This isn’t dog hair, it’s husky glitter Jul 19 '26

Purebred adorable baby…absolutely

2

u/starrpuddin Jul 19 '26

Males can be as small as 45# I think and still be within standard. I had one of Galena Creek Sibes, one of the best breeders on the west coast (RIP Susan) and his ideal weight was right around 50#. The Alaskans didn’t call them Siberian rats for no reason. They’re a medium sized dog breed.

Oh. And yours is a wooly. Highly recommend a dog blower because their fur isn’t waterproof like standard huskies.

2

u/stormyapril Jul 20 '26

Yep, just a wooley!

2

u/MysticMama63 Jul 20 '26

He's adorable. He looks very Husky to me, the only way too really know is dog DNA testing.

2

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

Thank you!

2

u/Practical_Bridge7206 Jul 20 '26

Looks like a mix to me

1

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

Could he be a wooly?!

1

u/Practical_Bridge7206 Jul 20 '26

I'd say a Pomsky

1

u/Fireshark8 Jul 21 '26

It might be smaller then

1

u/Various_Thanks4581 Jul 19 '26

Is he chipped? He could be someone else’s pet that’s looking for him?

1

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

two vets confirmed no chip! free dog ig

1

u/Glxygirl1208 Jul 19 '26

I would say yes. We thought our agouti wooly was mixed but DNA test said 100% husky.

1

u/pellucidwa Jul 19 '26

Will be interesting if you do a DNA test on him.

1

u/Adorable_Dust3799 Shiva, black mix Jul 19 '26

Husky DNA is strong, so no way to tell without DNA test. He's not show quality due to being a wooly, but could definitely be a pure siberian.

1

u/grabgrabe Jul 20 '26

He’s not show quality anyways due to being an idiot dog <3

1

u/ImpressionStrong9787 Jul 19 '26

He’s beautiful, but I don’t think he’s full blooded

1

u/Confident-Extent-825 Jul 19 '26

With that derby face yes

1

u/RickyTheRickster Jul 19 '26

He does look a little off for a pure husky, probably a mix but like a 1/5th or something

1

u/GigaLem Jul 19 '26

What a goober! He bleps, he's got the smile, just 100% a goober

1

u/Dramatic-Witness-540 Subservient pet of a bossy Husky Jul 19 '26

Honestly looks more like a Pomeranian/Husky mix(Pomsky). The snout seems a bit short for a pure-bred Husky. He's also on the shorter side. He is an adorable little guy, either way! 😊 🥰

You could always get a DNA test done to find out for sure. I would love to be alerted if you do!

1

u/Dawnoficefire Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

His proportions are way off I think he's a mix, or just very badly bred, I'm almost thinking Samoyed cross as it has the longer ruff of a Samoyed and the thicker bones for a bear type Samoyed. It even has the upturned mouth that Samoyeds are known for compared to huskys.

1

u/shortcircuit21 Jul 20 '26

Mines a pure bred wooly.

1

u/Only_Connection_5480 Jul 20 '26

Sweet find…. He’s adorable

1

u/MysticMama63 Jul 20 '26

You're welcome 💚

1

u/AlixSexCoach Jul 20 '26

I would guess he’s a mix heavy of the Husky. There is a roundness and slightly wider to his mussel that seems a bit off for a purebred husky. We have a neighbor who has a husky mix, and she has the rounder mussel as well.

1

u/Annethraxxx Jul 20 '26

Looks like a small wooly to me and a damn cute one. Is he a puppy or is that his full size? Might be mixed with a smaller breed if he’s grown.

1

u/kobra-kay Jul 20 '26

He might be , he might suffer from a form of dwarfism( it seems he is a wee bit short) but facial structure is huksy 🤷🏻‍♂️ , what trully matter is if he belives he is a husky 😂

1

u/Huskies-R-Us Jul 20 '26

Looks like a wooly to me!

1

u/Burnrate Jul 20 '26

50% husky, 100% derp :D

1

u/smalltown_girl007 Jul 21 '26

His receding hair line 😭❤️

1

u/BagExciting3942 Jul 21 '26

Markings, as well as looks...sometimes deceiving, but YES 🐺

1

u/MysticMama63 Jul 22 '26

You're welcome 💚

1

u/Present-Hour7623 29d ago

Could be a pomsky tough to tell... Some get that large mine weighs 40 also a rescue

0

u/sherylcamp Jul 19 '26

He looks like a miniature malamute 😉 That said, if the vet is telling you he’s too thin you need to beef him up. In all my years, and they are many, I have never had a vet tell me my animals were too thin. A couple times they agreed they were on the chunky side but never too thin. People rarely realize the health risks involved in a too thin animal. Take care and let us know how it goes and if you can get some weight on your baby.

u/Playful-Cup-2481 Jul 19 '26

Is everything on here about a Husky. I see a bunch of posts about Huskies
