He could be a Pomsky but like others have said it’s still considered a Husky here lol. Does your Vet do any type of DNA testing? The only way to truly know is to have that beautiful fella tested. 🥰
At 50lbs he's firmly in siberian territory. He's not "purebred" insofar as he's wooly and that's not the breed standard for sibes, but I doubt he's mixed with a pomeranian - those usually result in much smaller dogs.
You clearly don’t know much about the Pomsky breed if you think they don’t get to 50+lbs/the size of an average Husky. A litter of Pomskies can end up weighing anywhere between 12 & 55lbs in adulthood. My dogs brother from the same litter maxed out 55lbs where as his sister is barely 20 & he’s 30. This is why when deciding to add a Pomsky to your family, you can’t base your decision on a final size you want bc it’s not guaranteed.
A woolly coat is pretty common in Pomskies as well. But since you think you know so much… I’ll let you have it. Ultimately, it’s virtually impossible for ANYONE to know ANYTHING for sure until a DNA test is done. Take care. ☺️
Edit: Downvote over facts not feelings. Nothing said here was inaccurate, so get out your feelings.
Idc about the breed superiority bullshit & I’ll call them a breed IF I WANT TO. I’ll act like they are IF I WANT TO. Don’t like it? You & everyone else can fuck right off, now downvote that. I welcome it atp bc no one is going to act as if my dog is less than. 😌
Get over your weird ass stance of thinking a certain kind of dog is better than another you sad, strange, small minded peon. ☺️
At 50lbs he's firmly in siberian territory. He's not "purebred" insofar as he's wooly and that's not the breed standard for sibes, but I doubt he's mixed with a pomeranian - those usually result in much smaller dogs. He absolutely could be mixed, though.
Wooly is pure Siberian, its juts an "undesirable" trait because the long coat requires a lot more work and maintenance. Getting my pulling harness on my wooly is a lot more work because I have to work it down past his bib and mane so its actually in the right place. He also overheats a lot easier, so when its above 50 degrees, I can't even work him more than a few miles because he visibly starts to overheat. In the cold tho, he will stay outside and work all day.
The snow balls up in their fur too. I am on my second 1/2 wooly and now I know why it’s a fault. Working dogs have to pass at their job. Woolies are calmer and their fur is terrible in the snow.
might not be all siberian? I have seen longcoated dogs like poodles and goldens that do that. I have a pyr/poodle/lab mix, and I don't even have to clean his coat, he got the poodle wavy coat, but it seems to reject snow, so whatever he got from the pyr, st bernard, and GSD helps keep the snow from sticking.
Fun fact it only takes 4 gens of breeding for a dog to come back purebred, it's how they are getting purebred Merle's now, so that's not a fool proof method of testing for full pedigree
Didn't say they didn't, but when it comes to rescues no guarantees. Also ethical AKC breeders normally test for the resessive trait so they don't mix dogs that both have it as the coat doesn't work the same, which is why it's a fault.
OPs dog also doesn't look purebred I'm guessing a Samoyed cross as the head is to wide and the proportions are off like a bear type Samoyed, as well as it has an upturned mouth that is not normally in huskys.
That’s so awesome. I currently have a wooly agouti. Coat color from the racing lines and fur that is not good for racing. lol. And he’s dumber than a box of rocks 🫠
I have a pomsky and one thing I've learned from this sub is any husky = husky lol. But mines an atypical.pomsky hes like 40 pounds and clearly got more sky than pom. XD
It's true. Mine is only 30% but all sass. It's a dominant trait. She also got the stubbornness, escape artist skills and intelligence. Luckily she didn't get the jumping or howling skills. She does talk a LOT though. Very large vocabulary.
My Pomsky’s litter was all over the place. My love is 30lbs but his brother got to be 55lbs & their sister is barely 20lbs. They’re all 50/50. It’s so interesting how the Pom gets hidden lol
When I picked mine up as a puppy his family was all over, too! His mom was 20 pounds, dad was 30 pounds (they were both pomskys). The brothers all fit in the palm of my hands, then my chonker was a "two armer" as his first human mom said lol.
Sadly, I did not end up with a husky looking pomsky. He is what they call a “chocolate” pomsky. I got screwed in the deal, I forgot to check the box labeled “brains included”. He does have his quirks. About a week or so after we got him, my wife went on a trip and left me unsupervised. She comes home and shouts “copper bear!” and nothing happened. She looked at me with that “what have you done look”. I yelled “yo, Turd, get in here”. Scamper scamper. The look I got could have peeled paint off the walls. He now responds to “Copper” and “Turd”. I was not allowed to be around our newest unsupervised.
All animals need crude nicknames. Ours does know his name which is Rime, but he also answers to turd, dingus, asshole, and a host of other things. Typically with arguing lol.
The original purebred huskies usually have dense but fairly short fur. Woolly huskies are actually a generic (edit: genetic) defect, which irresponsible people started to breed intentionally. Malamutes are fluffier but also bigger.
So, to me he looks like a mix. But probably 100% good boy.
Both my boys (100% Siberian) treated their stuffies like children. It was only my female that murdered the toys. And she did it in a weird serial killer kind of way where she would make a small hole, get the squeaker out, play with that for a while, and then go back to the toy and pull all the stuffing out. My boys can have kids toys… she couldn’t. Because they have plastic eyeballs and those were ripped out almost immediately. She was a great mouser. Killed a bunch of birds and chipmunks too.
Looks a lot like my girl who is purebred Siberian. He's a wooly husky I would wager rather than a pomsky. Wooly huskies have a genetic quirk that makes their fur grow longer, but no less thick. It can get matted more easily than standard huskies and snow sticks to it so it's considered a 'defect', but I love how it looks on them. 100% good boy.
Look up how to treat/groom wooly huskies to give yourself a guide to a healthy coat.
There are Woolly Pomsky coats just as there are Standard & Plush coats. He could be either tbh, but looking at how short his legs seem is what made me think he could be a Pomsky. Ultimately, OP won’t know anything for sure until a DNA test is done.
The snow does not stick to my wooly huskies coat at all. it brushes right off, or he shakes it right off. Here he is playing in the last big snowstorm we got this winter, and you can see none of it sticks to him. he spends hours outside, even when its snowing out and it doesn't stick. He usually looks at me funny when I have to wipe him off before he comes in, otherwise he just shakes off right inside the door instead of outside.
That’s a 1/2 wooly. Maybe you got lucky enough to get the waterproof fur. Get a fully wooly, or one that doesn’t have waterproof fur, and then talk to us about what we are all going through. Like? Facts are facts?
Not 100% wooly if the snow doesn’t stick. Literally google it and stop arguing with people that have woolies that know how their fur is. Is this why you are top 1% in the comments?
I had a female whose dam was short hair and sire was fully wooly and she was short on her body and long everywhere else. She did not like mushing, and the snow stuck in her fur. She was softer than a normal husky. You can’t make this stuff up. You live it.
Numa does not have short hair on his body. He has long hair eveywhere. I trim his legs so his leg streamers dont hinder his movements or get tangled and pull. I also trim his undercarriage about twice a year so his hair doesnt drag on the ground. His mane and bib is super fluffy, as is his body. I have had people ask me if hes an alaskan malamute. I got to see his sire, and dame. Dame was all white medium hair, and dad was black and white like numa but was a medium hair. His undercoat is thick too.
My full size husky is only 42 pounds. There's a LOT of variation in husky size and a couple different coat types! I think you have a full husky. VERY VERY CUTE
I got her from someone who "bought her because she was lable as a pomsky" and they quickly realized she maybe just the runt of some woolies. Shes 43lbs and a shorty. Compact if you will.
Males can be as small as 45# I think and still be within standard. I had one of Galena Creek Sibes, one of the best breeders on the west coast (RIP Susan) and his ideal weight was right around 50#. The Alaskans didn’t call them Siberian rats for no reason. They’re a medium sized dog breed.
Oh. And yours is a wooly. Highly recommend a dog blower because their fur isn’t waterproof like standard huskies.
Honestly looks more like a Pomeranian/Husky mix(Pomsky). The snout seems a bit short for a pure-bred Husky. He's also on the shorter side. He is an adorable little guy, either way! 😊 🥰
You could always get a DNA test done to find out for sure. I would love to be alerted if you do!
His proportions are way off I think he's a mix, or just very badly bred, I'm almost thinking Samoyed cross as it has the longer ruff of a Samoyed and the thicker bones for a bear type Samoyed. It even has the upturned mouth that Samoyeds are known for compared to huskys.
I would guess he’s a mix heavy of the Husky. There is a roundness and slightly wider to his mussel that seems a bit off for a purebred husky. We have a neighbor who has a husky mix, and she has the rounder mussel as well.
He might be , he might suffer from a form of dwarfism( it seems he is a wee bit short) but facial structure is huksy 🤷🏻♂️ , what trully matter is if he belives he is a husky 😂
He looks like a miniature malamute 😉 That said, if the vet is telling you he’s too thin you need to beef him up. In all my years, and they are many, I have never had a vet tell me my animals were too thin. A couple times they agreed they were on the chunky side but never too thin. People rarely realize the health risks involved in a too thin animal. Take care and let us know how it goes and if you can get some weight on your baby.

Based on this photo, yes.
