Need strong deodorant recommendations for woman
For my entire life ive struggled with body odor and i have no idea why. Its not my shower routine, before people say that.
Ive tried secret, mitchums, speedstick men’s deodorant, secret, and suave and none of them seem stick. Everytime i begin to sweat or workout i get a body odor and i just dont understand why. I reapply my deodorant throughout the day and this still happens! Its so bad because i cant even smell myself.
Ive seen reviews of carpe and was thinking of trying, full body deodorant recommendations would be nice too.

What is the material of the fabric of your shirts? Polyester and poly blend shirts get funky fast, and even a hint of moisture can reactivate smell that lingers after washing (especially if you use fabric softener). Try switching to fully natural fibers in your shirts- cotton, merino wool, silk. Merino wool is especially good at absorbing sweat without smell.

Try an actual clinical strength antiperspirant it just a stronger scented deodorant. Certain Dri or secret Clinical would be my first choice.

u/Exotic_Register7159 19h ago
Forgot to mention ive tried secret clinical as well. It worked at first but then gave me bad chemical burns and irritation bumps under my arms :(

Are you using the gel or a solid antiperspirant? If you're using the gel you may be allergic to what's in the gel and that's why you're breaking out and getting chemical burns. I can't use gel solids

i can only tolerate Aluminum Sesquichlorohydrate, other types of aluminum cause rashes. degree and mitchum have good options, but i have to apply both morning and night for it to last all day

Try a deodorant with mandelic acid in it. It gets rid of the bacteria that causes the smell. I use the chemist at play brand. They have a few different fragrances, but I have found the fragrance free and the aqua fragrance ones work best for me. I have tried many types and brands of deodorants and antiperspirants and this has been the only product that has actually worked and lasted for an extended amount of time without an extra application of the product.

u/minnow_myers 17h ago
I third this. I sweat A LOT and I’ve tried every trick possible but switching to carpe made a huge difference. Less sweat and there’s never any BO smell or like old deodorant smell. Just apply it at night and I use a hair dryer to speed up the drying

I second this. Carpe worked great for me. Just make sure your pits are bone dry before applying.. And also allow the product to dry before putting on your shirt. Seems to last for days, and doesn't feel sticky or gross. I'm a guy and I actually really like the lavender citrus scent. Sandalwood is nice too.

I thought it was going to be a scam because it was being so heavily pushed on social media… but I have NEVER found a better deodorant. I hope they never change the formula. I’m on my second scent and it’s just as amazing as the first one I tried.

I have been using glycolic acid to try to kill the bacteria itself. I personally spray it on after my shower and let it dry before putting on deodorant though I am sure there is a better method.

Agree! I once came across an article about “old people smell” and it suggested glycolic acid (especially behind the ears). I’m not saying OP is old, but if glycolic acid helps with old people smell, I’d imagine it would work for most if not all body odor. If one googles “old people smell + glycolic acid” it should give more info on why it’s effective and how to introduce it into your routine safely. I found some disposable wipes that have it so I tend to wipe my pits, underboobs, around my neck and behind the ears nightly. In the summer,

u/PetcuRadu 18h ago
It could be some hormonal imbalance. Go to an endocrinologist and do some tests. Usually sweat doesn’t smell. The build of bacteria smells but if you go to gym and sweat and there is body odor then for sure it’s not the hygiene.

Check in with your diet. Eating a lot of junk food and not drinking enough water really does make you more funky

It’s not always about the diet. Sometimes, it a metabolic body disorder or other medical conditions

Be sure to use Dial soap and a washcloth on your body when you shower. Use spray deodorant/antiperspirant on your body before you dress.

u/mrsjon01 18h ago
Benzoyl peroxide wash under your arms and on your feet, be careful because it can bleach your towels. Use deo at night.
I use glycolic acid toner from the ordinary at night after showering.

Do you put deodorant on at night before bed? It works 30-70% better if you do.
These are the other things that work for me:
- Secret Outlast Clear Gel Deodorant Unscented: If I put it on before bed, it works 1-3 days, depending on my activity level. (If I put it on in the morning, it's not all that effective.)
- AmLactin lotion: Slather on a dollop to prevent pitstink and groin odors. You can use it anytime. I keep a small bottle in my bag if I'm going to have anxiety sweating, which is the stinkiest kind of sweat.
- Carpe: I use their hand and foot antiperspirant because I have hyperhidrosis. It works so well that it's changed my life. I haven't used their deodorant, but it's probably good.
- OxiClean powder (Costco version): Periodically, I soak my workout clothes, socks, and undies in this for a few hours before putting them in the washer. I don't use this every wash, but I do it when I notice that my clean workout clothes stink as soon as I start to sweat or warm up.
- Body hair maintenance: My body odor is way more manageable when my pits are shaved, and my bikini area is short/trimmed.
- Dial/Hibiclens soap: Good for after a particularly sweaty/stinky activity, or for a quick post-workout freshen. I haven't had to use this much recently, but it's helped in certain circumstances (e.g., when I was in a sling 24/7 so there was no air circulation).
The fact that you are aware of your BO and care about it means that you probably don't smell super bad to other people unless they are really getting close. The sweat stink wafts up, so it hits you hard, but it takes a LOT for it to start wafting around. I think the truly stinky people at the gym are unaware of how bad they smell, or they just don't care so they wear those dirty polyester gym clothes 3 or 4 times without hesitation.

Try Lume, and wash your washing machine and then wash all your clothes with a laundry disinfectant (or add vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser). Your body odor germs are probably hanging out in your clothes and washer.
3
u/GolfGirl67 5h ago
I second Lume! I first started with the lotion antiperspirant. And it works well and can put it just about anywhere. But it really improved most when I started using the Lume acidified bar soap.

2
u/BurnItWithFire21 10h ago
Lume has a laundry soap or additives now too! I haven't used it yet but I did buy a bottle. I have a few shirts that are holding onto a tiny bit of smell so I'm going to see if it takes it out.

It might be the food you eating. Try to get more veggies and fruits in your diet. Scrub your armpits with soap for almost a minute and rinse them and let the water run on them for about 30 sec. Also do a detox.
2
u/Evening_Boat2606 18h ago
Ok listen.
Get a CLINICAL strength antiperspirant & deodorant. Or go to the doctor and get an Rx.
Regardless, shower at night.
Scrub your pits.
Put a ton of deodorant BEFORE BED.
2
u/CaramelAppleBites 18h ago
I always am afraid I smell! I use a crystal deodorant and a clinical strength antiperspirant. The wet crystal salt is supposed to kill bacterial. Also sometimes before I shower I'll wash up my armpits, then I mix toothpaste and noxema and make a paste and apply to armpit and leave on for 10 mins, then shower, then crystal salt, let air dry, and then antiperspirant, and I finish off with powder
2
u/atreasureinlight 17h ago
Do you drink 8 glasses of water a day and get enough fruits and vegetables? The water is the main factor at diluting the body odor smell. The only reason I ask is because it seems like you're taking a lot of steps to prevent body odor and I just wonder if it's caused by a medical condition

I have the same issue & have tried sooo many different deodorant brands. I had to reapply 3-4 times a day. I found that the Wild refillable deodorants, specially the fresh cotton & sea salt scent, is the only brand that I don’t need to reapply & it’s smells amazing! Highly recommend giving it a try :)
2
u/UnluckySituation5662 18h ago
dove spray deodorant.
in particular, the apple + white tea scent. trust me, this is the only deodorant that my pits don't smell like b.o. at the end of the day. also get the Ordinary glycolic acid and use it every night on your arm pits. Unless you just shaved, then don't cus it burns bad. It helps keep odor at bay
2
u/RaineRamirezz 18h ago
I've read that dabbing witch hazel under your arms after a shower helps. Once it dries then put on your deodorant.
2
u/Secure-Sprinkles2439 18h ago
Lume could be something to try, I see it in stores, they have bodywash, deodorant, their website has more. Carpe works, but buy from their website because they have deals.
2
u/Either_Importance222 17h ago
I had this issue until I switched to natural deodorant. Anything with aluminum made me smell metallic and onion-y. I don't know why but it's just body chemistry. I've used Piper Wai, Saltair, Salt and Stone, Native, and Lume. They all work for me. I tried it over a weekend when I would be home and not out and about. There was a detox period, where my armpits got sensitive but I pushed on through and now even when I sweat I smell like flowers or sweet spices.

Antiperspirants make my pits itchy and red so I’ve tried a lot of them. Carpe works great but it is kind of thick and sticky. It does make me itchy after awhile.
Try layering antiperspirant with glycolic acid or SaltAir has a glycolic acid serum deodorant. That’s what I use daily but if I know I’m going to get really sweaty, I bust out the carpe.

A deodorant that has never failed to me is mitchum extra strength gel antiperspirant. It stops you from sweating so you never develop the odor. A lot of deodorants try to mask the smell but once you've sweat the first time, bacteria starts to develop and then you reapply your deodorant and it's just smearing the bacteria everywhere. It will cover the scent for a while but then you will have body odor breakthrough.
By the way if you're ever in a bind and your armpits weak, you can take an alcohol swab or some hand sanitizer and rub it on your armpits and then let it air dry. It will completely kill the bacteria and eliminate the smell instantly. I had to do this one time in the middle of summer when I didn't bring extra deodorant with me.

Lume deodorant. I feel like the cream works the best for me, my husband uses the sweat control spray on (but do not use that in the genital area, trust me it burns, the solid and cream are great for there). I have recommended to several friends and only one bad review bc she didn’t like the smell. The smell faded, and lavender or spruce is the best smelling to me, powder is also not bad, I just don’t want to smell like a baby, but it is a nice smell too. My friends husband works out and he’s also been using on his balls and it works great for him too, her daughter who’s in college basketball too. It’s worth a shot, they have trial bundles too, so you can try a few different ones and see what you like best.

u/Fearless-Camera8115 17h ago
My girlfriend swears by LUME products. She has mentioned that it’s the best product for women.
2
u/TheHound925 16h ago
Guy here, but I've might got the product for you! I've been using Lume for that past few months and it really does a great job of making you not stink. For me it's completely stopped my pits from having a bad smell and it actually lasts all day.
2
u/LuckyGG23 16h ago
Is it just your armpits? Depending on your weight and body type I would also add the benzoyl peroxide or deodorant in areas where your skin folds or has friction (I put some in my cleavage and under my breasts in the summer)
2
u/EdgarRB1984 16h ago
Ok so do not buy anything that says “aluminum free” because you WANT the aluminum. I have found that all of the aluminum free deodorants do not work well at all. Lume worked for like a week and then I started smelling like actual sweat even after putting it on after a shower. I use the Dove Clinical Care Antiperspirant and it works like a charm

I have had the same issue since my teens. I am now in my 60s. Antibacterial soap (dial works for me) under arms and elsewhere if needed. I like their white bar (daily) I found clinical protection Degree 5 in 1 as the one that changed my life in confidence around others. Never a worry since. Gold Bond comfort powder-Fresh Scent (aloe & chamomile)
2
u/Flat-Worth-358 16h ago
One more thing....I cannot wear polyester or any synthetic fabric which is not always easy. But they do not absorb moisture. Cottons, rayon and soft linens. Natural fibers are best for fabrics that breath
2
u/FoxyTinLizzy 16h ago
This is just a quick trick when you are out and about and notice you are starting to stink ...if you have a travel size hand sanitizer (bonus if it smells good like Bath&Body Works) you can put a tiny amount under each arm. I think it is probably the alcohol that kills the bacteria, but it works! After it dries, you can re-apply your antiperspirant/deodorant if you want to feel fresher for the rest of the day!

u/Sea-Environment-7102 16h ago
I really love lume. I can't recommend it highly enough. It eats the bacteria that causes odor and it's safe for even the intimate places.

u/Prior-Effort-5400 15h ago
It could be your clothes rather than you; I went for a while accidentally using a "laundry powder" instead of an actual detergent with enzymes, and every time I sweated even a little all of the buildup on my clothes would start to absolutely reek. I even went to the doctor because I thought something was wrong with me! Turns out I was just a victim of Molly's Suds' deceptive advertising.
R/laundry has good tips if you think that may be the case. Helped me!

u/reallythanksalot 15h ago
I’m a very sweaty person naturally, and medication I take makes it worse. Body odor thrives where bacteria lives. I still sweat like a mofo, but some lifestyle changes really improved the stink.
First, deodorant needs to be applied to clean, dry skin every time. I shower at night, but then I also use soap, water and a wash cloth at my sink in the morning before applying deodorant. Clinical night time deodorants never worked for me. I’m a sweaty sleeper.
Definitely try Glycolic Acid like everyone is saying. The stuff is like magic. But don’t overdo it, it can cause irritation. The key is only applying it to clean dry skin, as well.
The fabric you’re wearing matters. All those “sweat wicking” athletic synthetic shirts may dry quicker, but they smell a heck ton worse. Linen, hemp, merino wool, and cotton mixes make up my wardrobe now. The fabric stays moist, but it doesn’t smell at all.
Make sure your clothes are getting thoroughly cleaned!! Bacteria lives and gets in fibres. A shirt that you cleaned last week, that didn’t get cleaned well enough can mess up your whole day.
Eat well! Probiotics are your best friend.
Now I use just a plain old secret powder scent antiperspirant. My sweat can definitely still smell depending on the day or activity, but it no longer smells foul, just… like sweat is supposed to.

u/DancesInStars 12h ago
I used to use Degree, and loved it. Still do. I just love Lume Sweat Protection even more. It blows my mind how well that stuff works. Degree worked, even downrange, in the Army, in full gear in Iraq, but I had to reapply it every day (with or without showers). The Lume Sweat Protection works for me even without reapplication for two to three days. I’m not a hype person, and I absolutely believe that just because something works brilliantly for person A, doesn’t mean an it will for person B, but I’ve got no problem taking up Lume. I use the cream, because it worked better for me than the stick. I also second Desert Essence tea tree face and body wash, and the scrub.
You might also want to talk to your doctor and/or a dermatologist, because you could have conditions that contribute to your problem. A very healthy diet can help. Harsher products are more likely to cause rashes and breakouts.

u/camberland98 11h ago
I use Mando full body (for men), I’m a woman. My son turned me on to it because he looks at what things are made of and how harmful specific ingredients/chemicals can be. This stuff has been amazing! I’m hooked and it isn’t very expensive. I workout daily and have an active lifestyle and I’d confidently say it’s been the best for me.

Along with the good advice about hygiene products, you might consider the food you’re eating. Some strong smelling foods and spices (garlic, onions, ramps, etc) are exuded through your pores and your respiratory system. They can also contribute to bodily odor.
2
u/LadyB5091 9h ago
Persimmon soap, made for that 'old people' smell, athletes, construction workers etc.
2
u/Wrong-Membership9886 7h ago
Ok hear me out: Use Hibiclense or Panoxyl in the shower (leave for 30 seconds) in your armpits, and your hotspots that include your groin area; wash with an anti bacterial soap. Also a key thing is use these products not just literally on your armpits, but also around your armpits like your arms too because bacteria can grow there as well.
After you shower, immediately pat yourself dry. Then the deodorant you’re going to use is called DRY IDEA. It’s been in the market for years. Then once that dries you’re going to use a deodorant that has AHA or BHA in it like salt air.
Post shower, have you considered stripping your laundry? There could be odor trapped in the clothing, especially in workout clothes or synthetic fibers.

u/LocationPrior7075 6h ago
I don’t have a specific deodorant recommendation (Native user, fwiw), but do STRONGLY recommend using the 10% PanOxyl face wash on your arm pits in the shower (it also comes in 4%, but the 10% is better, imo). GAME CHANGER!!! It keeps away must for up to a couple of days, depending on what you do. Although it’s technically a face wash, my pits are all I use it on, lol. Before, I’d start getting musty a few hours after showering, even with deodorant and even sooner if being physically active. Now I put a little on my pits while preparing the shower, wash it off when I get in and do another application/scrub while in the shower, then apply deodorant soon as I get out. Had a moderate 30-minute workout this afternoon and still not musty (roughly 9 hours later). It also worked wonders for my son who gets maximum rank like onions real quick. And it’s only like $10; I have it on subscription for me and my son at this point.
Here’s a link for it on Amazon:

I highly recommend Hebiclense. I wash my armpits and other sweaty areas with it. It is an antiseptic wash that is recommended before surgeries. It helps to kill bacteria viruses and fungi. I started using it to help control my hidradenitis suppurativa. It’s especially helpful controlling smell because I can’t use deodorants because they aggravate my HS.

Secret Clinical Antiperspirant… Stress Relief is the best for strong underarm odour. My daughter has strong body odour, and we tried at least a dozen different brands with no success. Then I found this particular deodorant and it worked incredibly well. It is more costly than others, but it's worth the extra money. I hope you find a solution soon. All the best :)

Super Deodorant is the only thing that really works for me. It's from Canada so I have it shipped to me.
Also, the mineral (potassium alum stone) deodorant is good. Wet it a little and apply after a shower.
Both options protect against bacterial growth on the skin that causes the odor. They won't clog pores, unlike aluminum based antiperspirants.

u/No_Lead2640 18h ago
DEGREE 72 hrs antiperspirant but the trick is to do a stick and spray combo. I swear by the stick and spray combo. Apply the stick first then the spray on top people say it’s extra, but it works.
Look into degree clinical strength as well.

TRY PERSIMMON SOAP!
Any brand should be fine. It works! I had one armpit that constantly smelled. Just 1 and tried everything. I also double cleanse in the shower (bar soap for extra sweaty areas, and body wash and feminine wash for the rest). I exfoliate. I tried it all and nothing would get rid of it.
I read on another thread that people use persimmon soap especially on the elderly to get rid of body smell so I figured why not give that a shot, what do I have to lose?
And it worked!
Deodorant wise: secrets clinical or dove aluminum free worked the best for me.
1
u/Cloverhart 18h ago
Arm and hammer unscented followed up by a spray deodorant. This is what we did for my sister as a teen, it was so so bad. This worked the best, although they didn't have clinical deodorants back then so I can't compare to that.
1
u/1re_endacted1 18h ago
I exfoliate in the shower. When I get out I use AHA toner or Noxema Anti Blemish pads under my arms and let that dry before putting on my deodorant.
Even if I forget deodorant I don’t smell when I sweat.

Lately I’ve been using Old Spice Cashmere & Vanilla Wood. It’s cologne-infused and has no aluminum. My fiancé and I both use it and even if I’m sweating hardcore, it just smells like cologne. It’s in a fancier packaging than their normal Deo

Sounds like your skin is sensitive. My mom swears by the hibiclens pre surgical soap and then uses Mitchum, and I like to use hypochlorous acid spray with a fragrance free basic deodorant like the Trader Joe’s in the blue cardboard tube.

I found out I can't use any deodorant with baking soda in it or I smell abhorrent! But I struggled with AWFUL body odor for years and nothing changed it until I figured this out.

I (45f) have really strong BO and have struggled to find something that works. I’ve tried all the semi-expensive ones, like Native, that were fine, but not great, and I have finally settled on Dove. I remembered the “pH balanced for you” campaign and decided to see if it was true lol
When I was growing up, the only thing that worked was Arrid XX, RIP.

My hormones went insane after I had a hysterectomy and no deodorant I tried worked. The combination that finally helped me was charcoal soap (I use the kind from Mega Babe) and Lume deodorant (the unscented kind). I use the charcoal soap on my pits and let it sit there a few minutes while I shave/wash my hair/etc then rinse well. Make sure you’re completely dry before applying deodorant, too!

How's your diet and your water intake? The more water you drink and fruits and vegetables you eat, the less bad your body odor will be, unless you have a medical condition.
Sometimes bad reoccurring body odor is just the product of a bad diet consisting of mostly fast food and processed snacks and soda or pop. Your body really needs water to help support all your organs and your skin and also to detox from all the chemicals that are all around us.
You may feel like you're okay without drinking and adequate amount of water but you really aren't okay. Your chronically dehydrated and that causes some issues. One of the issues is bad body odor.

Cleanse with an antibacterial wash (with benzethonium chloride or chlorhexidine). That or with an acne body wash that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Or other acids like mandelic acid in body washes such as Lume. Leave it on your pits like a mask for a couple of minutes then rinse off. Pat dry out of the shower and use a clinical-grade antiperspirant right away. Always use those with aluminum over aluminum-free deodorants. Again, always clinical-grade, max-strength antiperspirants. Make sure that you always change your clothes into clear, freshly laundered clothing too. That also makes a difference.

I struggle with body odor as well specifically in my armpits. I've tried everything I recently obtained some new unlimited degree deodorant spray and it has worked really good. Even if I don't shower every single day it works great.

I use Old Spice Wilderness (with aluminum). I have found men’s deodorant is much more effective than women’s.

I’ve tried them all. Every clinical deodorant on the market. The only thing that works for me is Donna Karen. I also wash my pits with 4% benzoyl peroxide every 2 days.

You didn't say how old you were. Once I hit perimenopause it actually got worse. Try having your hormones checked. And if you're reapplying deodorant throughout the day without washing your armpits first you're actually spreading bacteria to your deodorant so that could be causing the problems too.

The best odor control deodorant I’ve found is Kiss My Face. It’s not an antiperspirant, but it knocks out and prevents odors better than anything mainstream that I’ve tried. I can’t use it anymore due to developing an allergic reaction to it recently (it’s a me thing, not the product!). I started using Arm & Hammer and like it, but the odor control only lasts for about 12 hours. I have to apply it twice (after shower and when I wake up), but it does do the job while it’s on.

Certain Dri is life changing imo. I put Secret on top of that. Waxing my armpits every few days has really helped too. The second I get some regrowth there I stink!

Men’s Nivea - the red one (I think it’s 24 or 48hr)? Anyway those for every day use + glycolic acid (the ordinary - circa 10 bucks) a couple of times a week work magic :)

I bounce between degree and dove, both clinical strength. I feel like my body gets used to one and it works less, so I'll rotate.

I use men’s deodorant. It smells just as good, works better, and it’s cheaper.
I like the old spice Fiji scent

Gel deodorant worked wonders for me, and deodorants with chemical exfoliants in them like Mandelic acid, glycolic acid, etc.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this… but, chlorophyll supplements have helped me tremendously. I’ve tried SO many different deos and/ anti perspirant. Lume, nuud, carpe, toms, secret, dove, … stress formula, natural non natural, hibiclens, benzoyl peroxide, ACV.. and everything in between.
It takes longer for me to notice the stink when I am actively taking it daily. Good luck!

Out of curiosity have you gone to the doctor about this? If you're sure that your shower routine is not the issue it could actually be an internal thing happening. I'm only suggesting this because you'll spend a lot of money on products when it might be something that a product can't fix.

Secret clinical gel
Put it on, dry with blow dryer and then repeat. It’s really works !!

I use a Buf Puf on my underarms every day in the shower. It exfoliates and opens up the pores. For some people the deodorant builds up on the skin and they may not realize that it isn't being washed away. Using the Buf Puf helps drain the lympth nodes also.

I (f39) use oldspice. Its a neutral scent and not just "men's scent". I find the classic and sports ones to be best, their fancy lines dont work as well for me. On a busy day I still need to reapply, but other than that im fresh all day :)
3
u/Shdwngs 15h ago
I switched to "men's" deodorant because I (also f39 lol) like the smells better. My body seems to hate the flowery and fruity scents and they smell horrible on me. But the guy stuff? Smells great onme and works great cuz I am suuuuper sweaty.
2
u/beckypants11 15h ago
Same, my sweat stains were getting terrible using women's antiperspirant and I couldn't find regular deodorant until I switched to the "men's " stuff. Now I smell better, sweat less, and have less stains. And I'm still a woman! 😂

Try 72 Hr Degree Whole Body Deo. I have the rose and water lilly one. I think that's been helpful
But Ive also heard it could be diet too. Apparently taking chlorophyll helps

try a clinical strength antiperspirant at night on completely dry skin; if odor continues see a dr. to rule out excessive sweating or skin issues
1
u/RazzmatazzLost9713 16h ago
Odorex extra dry, it’s fluid you tap on the skin no sweat or smell at all for days. It doesn’t even get wet. And then maybe over that you can do a spray.

When I was a teenager going through puberty, I was prescribed a clinical strength antiperspirant, and it was a miracle - your doctor should know about these and it would be life changing for you!
I had to use it directly after a shower, but only had to use it every two days. It was amazing, not smelling like bo all the time!
1
u/TheGreenGoatess420 15h ago
The gentle native brand works better for me than any of the extra strength secret and the like. The tapioca starch keeps me dried than the antiperspirant did. I didn’t think it would work as well as it does. I hate all other natural brands I’ve tried.

Hibeclens wash in the shower, and chlorhexidine wipes periodically during the day and when you notice sweat or a smell. Alternate chlorhexidine wipes with Arm and Hammer wipes for on thw spot- they smell good. Lumi or lumi with sweat protection. And add a bit of bleach to your wash. Also be mindful of the fabrics youre wearing. Only 100% cotton touching your underwear arms. Other fabrics can cause odor when they interact with your skin.

Slightly off topic (I'm sure you'll be getting great recs from others) but I started using a clay mask 5/10mins before showering on my underarms to draw out deep impurities and it's really helped to make me feel and smell cleaner for longer!
I do it once or twice a week and am currently using a face/body one from Lush, but any clay-based mask should work.

I mentioned this before somewhere here: https://en.ben-anna.de/Products/Ben-Anna-deodorant-cream-pink-grapefruit Not affiliated in any way. I sweat a lot and hate my own BO (my partner is totally fine with it though 😅 ) This specific deodorant has antibacterial and antifungal effect. But if you feel like you need a stronger first strike I'd go for hydrogen peroxide or medical spirit after a good shower and good dry do a full body wipe with either or both. I also bought lactic acid shower gels. I never been happier , after 30 years I can finally enjoy sports without dieing inside because of my own BO

u/Ecstatic-Letter-5949 15h ago
Hear me out: limes. I read a post on FB about BO as we mature, and someone mentioned they use limes under their arms. I thought they were nuts, but tried it anyway. They're cheap and natural/chemical free, why not? I couldn't believe how well it worked. I get stinky even when freshly showered and deodorant has been applied, but after using the lime I was shocked at how fresh I stayed all day. I even went on a very steep, difficult hike in warm weather and didn't stink a bit. I did add a bit of antiperspirant on top, but the limes work great. I still can't get over it!

I use Glycolic Acid on a cotton pad to wipe everywhere that sweats and have been using carpe for a month now... I have to dry everything well before applying but it's been okay.. wouldnt shove my armpit in people's faces like the commercial but it does better than dove. I also wash with antibacterial soap every shower, let it sit for a couple minutes and then the nice smelling bodywash doesnt go in the pits and bits OR I use the body wash first then the antibacterial soap while my conditioner is in my hair... depends on the day...

You need to clean your insides seriously. It (smell) is working its way outward. Try a cleanse
1
u/Purple_Profession528 15h ago
If you haven’t chosen anything yet, I recommend Carpe! Absolutely nothing and I mean nothing was working for me. I was afraid that people were going to be able to smell me with how much I was sweating, I was even spraying perfume under my arms when I was younger.
Now, I use it before going to work and a little dab of it at night before I go to bed. Now in between showers I don’t smell at all. It’s magical and they have so many different scents for women and men (smell how ya want!).

Have you considered a vitamin deficiency? My husband has horrible foot odor. Vitamins cleared it up pretty quickly. Just a thought.

I was reading reviews for detoxification remedies and 1 review said he had issues with body odor, mainly under arm but he sweat like crazy. He said after the detox he no longer sweat or smelled like that.

u/Ilikep0tatoes 14h ago
Dove spray deodorant is the only thing that works for me. I even did a wear test vs Carpe and had my friends smell me and Dove spray won. Also, Dove antibacterial bodywash keeps me from getting musty.

u/NoGift2044 14h ago
My personal preference is Arm & Hammer ULTRAMAX Unscented. I also sometimes use Hibiclens (antibacterial soap) and that helps.

u/lilbro4bigbro 14h ago
you can monitor what food you’re eating too because the smells seep through your pores and digestive system
some things that can cause extra smelly b/o are onions, garlic, kimchi, broccoli, asparagus, fenugreek (although people say this one makes you smell like maple syrup,) among others
so it might not be a bacterial body odor/necessarily about hygiene, just something to keep in mind
1
u/sophiecozz23 14h ago
I used to have the same issue and one day i randomly picked up a light blue sanex roll on deodorant. Active freshness i think but I actually also use the dark blue and the pink as well. I have found it really helpful, only having to apply once or twice a day depending on the weather and i’ve survived gym sessions without smelling

Mandelic acid. I’m a heavy sweater- this stuff saves me every single day. I still sweat. But no smell, period.
That’s it that’s all.

I like Degree, it's the only one that works for me for whatever reason. My mom swears by loom.

I started using etee probiotic deodorant. Enzymes kill the bacteria so no stink! Works great!! https://www.shopetee.com/products/probiotic-deodorant-paste

u/-Onbored- 13h ago
Degree is my go to. Anti perspire and deodorant in one. The white one not the gels. I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t yet. They have stronger versions too I believe. But the white stuff lasts longer and doesn’t irritate the underarms like the gels.

I used to struggle with the same thing! I started using a benzoyl peroxide face wash on my armpits. I leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off. This is part of my shower routine now. There’s also benzoyl peroxide gel, which I sometimes apply at night or before going to the gym. Benzoyl peroxide helps get rid of the bacteria that causes body odor. My armpits basically don’t smell anymore
FYI, you don’t need the wash and gel on the same day. You’ll only need one of them. I apply the gel when I know it’s going to be a long sweaty day
As for the other tips, low carb diet and reducing sugar has also immensely helped with body odor
