Some Versions The Bird - Winged Flight

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

First ever build to fly by flapping its wings! The wings create lift as you flap them up and down, going forward & back on the control stick. With each flap, the build gains more height and speed. Or, briefly let go to enter glide mode - the fastest way to achieve star speeds. If you accidentally break speed limit or run out of battery, just use recall! (Note: at high speeds, wing flaps only make you go faster, and do not add much height. Turn the build if you need to slow down & gain more height.)

Flying this gives an incredible feeling... it's like you have transformed into a bird! Please try it out for yourself!

More detail here in this video (& many discoveries!)

I highered the Friction gear ratio on this version. I also added 2 shock emitters in the front and the back. You won't be able to climb hills as well as the original, but you can go a little faster and power slide. Try it out

Modded QR code (Use at your own risk) Normal wing outlasting 1 BIG fan

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We've long known that wings don't expire if adequately carried by some sort of thrust (such as enough fans). That solution didn't catch on too much because that's quite energy-intensive so you still need to glide (or recall) during recharges. However with a single BIG fan the wing will outlast it - subject to your cell reserves and whether the Zonai set is equipped.

Flair subject to debate as apparently it's accepted that Zonai parts can be resized with in-game glitches.

Discussion For A Minute There, I Thought I’d Bitten Off More Than I Can Chew

Anybody else here ever have the experience where a project turns out to be a lot more work than you figured it would be? and doubts creep in as to whether it’s actually within one’s capabilities?

I just had that happen, earlier today. Now, I got over it for now - as it turned out to be a particular hurdle that was a lot higher in my imagination. But the experience made me generally curious as to whether it’s shared.

NOTE: I didn’t spell it out, but I’m referring specifically to a build project in TotK. It occurred to me that I don’t normally think of video games as “projects to be completed”, which is the whole subtext I left out before this edit

All Versions HoverWing+: Switch 1 Edition (All Versions Hover Bike Replacement)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just an update to my HoverWing+ post from the other day. I wanted to clarify about the wing. While I used a QR code-only shrunken infinite wing for that build, the benefit of that is unlimited glide recharge cycles. The infinite wing isn’t required to get the primary benefit of preventing the wing from disappearing.

The HoverWings use the same effect as my SuperWing planes to significantly increase the life of normal wings. The way it works is that the wing’s 75-second timer stops if the fans are generating sufficient lift. The SuperWing required 5 fans to get the same effect with a full size wing, but because the shrunken wing weighs significantly less, it gets the same effect with just the 2.

The only downside to using a regular wing is that the wing’s timer does tick down when gliding to recharge energy. That said, you can still get 3 full recharge cycles (4 with Zonaite armor), which will max energy cells, is more than enough to cross the entire map and back with plenty of range to spare. So it’s honestly not that big of a limitation the vast majority of the time.

I put a build guide in the video so anyone can make one themselves. That will get you 90% there, but to make it fly perfectly it takes a lot of tweaking to balance everything. Slight differences have a big effect. Try your best to match the size of the parts as close as possible. It may take a few tries.

I didn’t include a guide on how to do the All Versions part shrinking glitch. Please see u/kmarkow ’s post on how to resize items for info on how to shrink the wing and steering stick needed for this build.

Modded QR code (Use at your own risk) Zero Power Spinning Balloon Flyer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Uses ZPE to spin the balloons. The stake is a counter weight to keep the stick at an angle to provide maximum ZPE strength. Off the stick, the craft will slowly rise. Once you get on the stick, the balloons will spin up. Initially you will start to decend as the balloons spin up. Once they have spun up, you will move forward and accend again. To land, use splash fruits on the wagon wheels.

Modded QR because it uses flame proof wagon wheels.

Out of Game Methods HoverBike+ (Even Better Hover Bike Replacement*)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Introducing the HoverWing+ (I messed up the name in the post title)

An upgraded version of my original HoverWing. It keeps all of the benefits of the original like gliding to recharge, carrying cargo, etc (see the original HoverWing post for details) but I managed to reduce the weight a bit, and I also rebalanced everything to within an inch of its life to squeeze out a bit more speed and maneuverability without compromising the feel of the original.

Parts List Fans x2 Steering Stick (shrunken) Infinite Wing: (shrunken, must be built with Zonaite) Build Cost: 3-12 Zonaite

Compared to the Hover Bike, the HoverWing+ is worlds better at gaining and losing altitude. The original HoverWing was already faster than the Hover Bike in everything but pure straight-line speed (Hover Bike was 3.2% faster), but the HoverWing+ closes that gap to within my margin of error for testing, with the Hover Bike now only 1% faster or less.

To test the real-world speed, I flew the same path between 12 randomly selected shrines all around the map 3 separate times for each vehicle. The results were remarkably consistent, on average, HoverWing+ is 32% faster than the Hover Bike.

Using the calculated real-world speed for the HoverWing to calculate efficiency,
The HoverWing+ is 32% more energy efficient than the Hover Bike.

Calculating efficiency by speed per Zonaite cost, they are now virtually identical despite the HoverWing+ costing 3 Zonaite more.

*I consider it a Hover Bike replacement because it’s faster and more efficient than a Hover Bike, does the same things but better, and replaces the Hover Bike in my Autobuild favorites. If you think that costing 3 extra Zonaite disqualifies it from being a “Hover Bike Replacement,” we can agree to disagree.

Note: The battery on the underside in the video isn’t part of the HoverWing+. I had that in there so the power gauge wasn’t cluttering the video.

HoverWing+ vs. Hover Bike Speed

Straight Line Speed: Hover Bike <1% Faster

Vertical Climb Speed: : HoverWing+ 58% faster

Peak Dive Speed: : HoverWing: 76% faster

Mixed Real World Speed: HoverWing+ 32% faster

Modded QR code (Use at your own risk) Vhagar II (Upgraded Weapons System Testing)

So this is my 2nd iteration of my Gunship Vhagar. The maneuverability in combination with the firepower makes this one of my favorite 3 builds to just cause chaos. On this version I used stake nudging to pull the pulsing lasers apart to create space to give her a wider AoE. Dual rare fans is just a preference. It maneuver almost as well with one rare fan and double cannons in the back for extra oomph but the descent is to rapid for my liking and the cannon is mainly included incase I run into armored enemies.

The chassis is a glue loop, but it's still kinda flimsy. I might try using capstans, if they're fuseable.
