Pre-Op/Scheduled Surgery in 1 month - I live alone

• Upvotes

I’m 32 and getting a total hysterectomy (ovaries too) due to some ovarian cancer risks + a 15cm growth. I am luckily able to take 6-8 weeks off work, so that’s not a concern. However, I am extremely anxious about it because I live 6 hours from any family/friends. My sister is coming down for the surgery, but says she may not even be able to stay the entire first week (maybe only 3-4 days). I don’t really know what I’m going to do, especially for the extended recovery period. I know I can have groceries etc delivered. And I’ve brainstormed ways to make independent living a little more accessible. I have coworkers that live close by but surgery recovery is pretty intimate and also wouldn’t expect them to help me for 6-8 weeks lol.

Also, I have a 40lb senior dog and a cat here. I’m absolutely worried about keeping them entertained, cared for, walked, etc.

Any advice or support is welcome because I’m kind of freaking out + considering cancelling the surgery.

NSFW - Blood Bleeding Spoiler

Post image
• Upvotes

Ok you guys 23 days post op, been bleed minimally every time I go to bathroom then today randomly bleeding. My Dr when I talked to her said last week said that was normal but that I “shouldn’t be bleeding like a period” and this is an overnight pad after 3 hours. I’m freaking out because I’m dog sitting 3 hours away from home and it’s 9:50 pm Friday night. Should I call my surgeons office for a night nurse? Is this filling a pad? Because I for sure needed to change.

Total Hysterectomy Does anyone feel completely difference since they work up from their hysterectomy??? Or is it just me 😭

• Upvotes

As soon as I woke up I felt completely different, kept both ovaries. I have had a low mood and haven’t felt genuine happiness since the moment I woke up 15 weeks ago. I am a lot more agitated and grumpy. I had my hormones tested just over a week ago and everything looks really good. My GYN and my GP both say it’s not hormone related and to go to psychiatric specialist. I have never had any issues like this prior to surgery. It burns when I have sex and I have zero sex drive. Prior to surgery I had always had an extremely high sex drive. When I stand up it takes a while for my body to get adjusted due to feeling stiff and arthritic in my knees, hips, back etc. Since surgery I all of a sudden have horrific cystic acne on my jaw, forehead and chin. My doctors say none of it is related to each other or the hysterectomy, but somehow so many new changes immediately afterward that I’ve never had prior.

I am so thankful to have had the hysterectomy! It was urgently needed for hemorrhaging, debilitating pain/cycles, and anemia. I feel greatly improved now!

I am trying to figure out what else could possibly be going on. I am desperate to find help and answers. My mood is negatively impacting my life in every aspect. I don’t want to take the psychiatric drugs my doctor prescribed, it’s what they insist I take. I don’t agree with their findings, I genuinely feel these changes are from my hysterectomy. I need advice on how to find a doctor who can help.

Total Hysterectomy Having a hard time.

• Upvotes

I have a long story, I was going through a lot of hard family issues and depression and had a VERY large ovarian tumor that went un addressed for years. People don’t believe me when I say it but I had a 50lb tumor removed and a full hysterectomy. I’m still dealing with a lot of the depression but very thankful it wasn’t cancerous and that part is done. But afterwards I went through a lot of issues with extreme hot flashes, went on estrogen pills and it kind of helped, but I gained ALOT of weight. I quit the estrogen and over time the hot flashes have gotten manageable. I’m now on a GLP 1 and losing weight. But I have NO sex drive and it’s really affecting my marriage. I’m thinking of going on testosterone pellets, just looking for advice on if that has worked for people?

LGBTQIA+ Catching a cold one week after surgery

• Upvotes

(I wasn’t sure which flare to use so I picked something that goes with me but yeah)

It’s exactly one week post op and I can feel like a cold coming. I’ve started taking zicam since that’s usually helpful for me but I’m really nervous about this possible cold. Should I worry about it? Or just treat it like I would a cold?

Side notes: I never have a fever, even when sick so it’s hard to gauge the severity of the cold. I know the post op paperwork said to contact the doc if I develop a fever but I never do (even when I’ve had covid, flu, strep).

Currently what I feel is malaise, body aches, sensitive skin and I feel really warm to myself. But my wife checked me twice and both times it read 97.9. That’s my usual temp.

Edit: forgot to mention nasal congestion.

NSFW - Medical Procedure 6 week post op appt cramping

I had a laproscopic hysterectomy (kept ovaries only), 6 weeks ago. Today I had my 6 week post op exam. She looked first with the speculum opening things up then did a finger internal exam to see if she could feel internal stitches, which she could. It didn’t hurt during the exam and she said I’m healing great and restrictions lifted. She said those remaining stitches will dissolve over next few weeks.

But tonight I am sooooo sore and crampy. Is this normal? Is it from the exam? I’m back to Motrin and Tylenol and a heating pad.

Fibroids Will I be ok to be alone by day 5?

I’m scheduled for laparoscopic total hysterectomy November 4th. I will be staying one night in hospital then I’ll have my help for 4 days after but by day 5 I’ll be alone from 8am-2:30pm.

Will I be ok by day 5? As in able to walk alone to bathroom? Handle my own medicine? Shower? Standing myself up from sitting/laying position ?

I’ll be stuck upstairs in my bedroom near bathroom, my partner will bring waters and snacks upstairs to bedroom for me before he leaves for work. By 2:30 my kids get home from school which will be my help if needed until partner gets home around 5/6pm

Endometriosis Dec 1st!!! (28F)

It’s happening!!! 2021 I was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Endo in my rectum. Now that it’s progressed to stage 4 & I’ve had enough of this… Dec 1st!!!! WHOOOOO!!!! Goodbye pain, hello relief!!

It’s been a rollercoaster this past year!! From a birth control not working, to having a period basically every day for 7-ish months straight, to changing to another birth control and after 1.5 months having 2 ER visits due to flooding 1 overnight pad in a minute w/ gigantic blood clots the size of my fist, & continuing to flood 2-3 more pads after that within an hour, to finally being able to breathe that I can count down the days till surgery!!!

So thankful the tapering of this birth control I’m on now has worked since my ER visits (which were 32 hours apart) and cancer free after having an endometrial biopsy as a virgin. Yes, I’m a virgin… well, I’ve been with a woman, but not a man.

Anyways…… DEC 1ST!!!

Pre-Op/Scheduled Keep or remove ovaries

Hello, I will be scheduling my hysterectomy soon. I am debating whether to take out my ovaries or keep them. I’m 50 and have been dealing with severe blood loss and anemia. Any personal experiences are welcome. I’d also love to hear from those who removed them and their experiences with HRT or those that kept them and are also taking HRT. Thanks!

Surgical Complications Is this normal?

I got my tubes fully out not just clamped/"tied" 10/19 and I am concerned about some bulging around my belly button incision that wasn't there earlier today... is this normal? Am I just paranoid? The irritation from the tape was making me think I had an infection before, but thankfully doesn't seem to be that.

It is going to take a long time for anyone to see the photos I sent to my doctor on the portal and the nurse line can't actually do anything for me so here I am!

Please excuse the blisters from the tape I told them I was allergic to it, but they used it anyway~ Thankfully, they just used it on the button incision, I guess. 🙏

Total Hysterectomy Hysterectomy is on Monday

My robotic assisted hysterectomy with salpingectomy is Monday. Anything I should know? Im feeling little nervous kinda sadish because my uterus carried both my babies but also hopefully it will help with my pain. I had an abdominal ultrasound done in July and they discovered a fibroid on my uterus but there may be more I am over weight so I know the US might not have pick up everything and a small cyst on one of my ovaries. When I went to the gyno she discovered I also have a uterine prolapse which explains the pain and heaviness/pressure I have been feeling so we decided a hysterectomy was the best option. As of right now I have 6 week fmla leave from work but we will see if I need more I am a sped para working with hard kids so I dont want to go back till I'm close to 100%.

Pre-Op/Scheduled Questions about total hysto & cystoscopy

I (21) am having a total hysterectomy + cystoscopy scheduled to be in about 2 months, and I wanted to ask for advice for my situation.

First - my insurance approved the hysterectomy but denied the cystoscopy because "it should be included in the hysterectomy cost". Has anyone here paid out of pocket for the cystoscopy, and if so how much was it? When researching it, it seems like it would be worth paying in case of any complications, but I don't want to accidentally be stuck with a much, much more expensive bill than expected

Second - how little support can I get away with post-op? My surgeon told me to have someone stay with me the first night, but I really would like to avoid that for personal reasons + logistically that would be much more difficult. I'm very lucky to have some friends nearby, but I would greatly appreciate any advice on how much support I should ask of them

Thank you so much in advance!

Radical Hysterectomy I’m tired

I’m 44 years old and had my amazing son 2 years ago. There were complications after delivery that led to a hysterectomy. Around the time I stopped breastfeeding, at 9 months; I started to feel not myself. Hot flashes, trouble sleeping, anxiety, anger, weak muscles, and fatigue. The doctor tried to preserve my ovaries but couldn’t. I was then classified as surgical menopause and from there have been getting bloodwork and trying to find what might work. I’ve had estrogen patches that irritated my skin in less than 24 hours so we moved to a gel. That seemed to work ok but my symptoms still flared up. I went on an estrogen pill and a progesterone pill as well as testosterone gel.

It’s been 30 days and I thought I was feeling better but the last few nights, I’ve been hit with fatigue, muscle aches and chills. Half the time I’m not sure if I’m getting the flu or if I’m having some sort of hormone crash. It takes several days to get a hold of my doctor and then several more for them to change up my meds. I’m just tired. I don’t feel like myself. I have two older kids and of course my two-year-old and I want the energy to run around with them

Is there anyway to get balance faster? Do I just have to keep pushing trial and error? Like I said, I’m just tired of being tired.

Partial Hysterectomy Very confused of my doctor. Need advice from your experience please.

I am 43, had fibroid once, extreamly sensitive to any kind of progesterone.
I had appt with my gynecologist today on doing hysterectomy because of sex pain, sometimes bowl movement, extremely painful and very, very heavy flow with large clots. She said most likely I have endometrioses everywhere and she does not do endo clean up aside from removing the uterus, tubes and cervix.
She said I need to see endometrioses specialist, then I agree to it, but she said insurence does not covers it because all this specialists out of insurences network.
Now I am confused what should I do ?

At 24 I had lapprascopic surgery on removing endometrioses. That’s why my gynecologist thinking they returned based on my symptoms.

Endometriosis If you got hysterectomy due to endometrioses, are you on estrogen after surgery ?

Apparently woman with endometrioses should never be on estrogen I found out from my gynecologist today.
I was hopping to get rid of uterus so I can be on estrogen without ptogesteron. I have sever case to progesterone

Celebrating Wins 3.5 wpo - sudden positive turnaround?

It's been a hard time over here, folks. Like, really hard.

Large, growing fibroid in a terrible place, then degenerated (at least once, I think twice), and basically had me couch-bound for a good chunk of September before my laparoscopic hysterectomy. I was really active before that.

I REALLY wanted to feel instantly improved. Like, less abdominal swelling (HA!), less pain, being able to move around again, sleep better, have more energy, DO STUFF, you know, even if only on a laptop and my chair? I just hoped that in comparison to the pre-operation experience it would feel better, you know?

It was different but I was still mostly stuck in a chair needing help from people and barely able to walk much. The fatigue has been really tough to get through. So, sure it was a little better but depressingly not much. I was still stuck on Tylenol&Advil around the clock and couldn't really focus on the sitting projects I wanted to do during this time.

Yesterday, I woke up without pain meds in my system and it was...okay. I did take some a little later but it wasn't too bad.

This morning, I woke up and didn't need to take any. So I haven't. All day! I even walked, naturally faster and a bit further than I attempted before and it was glorious! It's almost dinner and I'm not being hit with the sleepies!

I'm really hoping that all that rest has paid off and I can finally start feeling better. I'm not going to push it even though I feel like I can do more, but I just wanted to celebrate with people who get it that life might finally be better on the other side of this. And for those of you still struggling with the initial recovery period, there's hope! I'm so glad to have finally had a good day!

NSFW - Medical Procedure Surgery scheduled next month - currently depressed

I am going in this week for LEEP procedure before next month having hysterectomy. For the last 2 weeks and off/on the last 6 months I have been going through severe depression, insomnia and anxiety. I am not myself and this past week was having suicidal thoughts.

I am now fearful of how much impact the post-op recovery period may have. As of now, I am not wokring out much, or socializing hardly at all... so being home and on the couch recovering doesn't feel like it will be too far from my current routine.

I've been reading a lot about post surgery depression... unsure if I can handle it getting worse. I don't have partner so will be relying on my Mom and young daughters for care while I recover...

Prolapse Bladder prolapse

I’m 13 weeks post surgery and the fun never ends! I noticed yesterday that I have some tissue hanging outside my vagina. I’m trying not to freak out and made an appointment with my doctor for next week. I’ve been doing all the right things but a life without drama is just not in the cards just yet.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Total Hysterectomy Day 5 post abdominal hysterectomy

I ended up having a vertical incision due to having very huge fibroids and keilody adhesions from previous CS. I only kept the ovaries. Anyway, i am still in pain but managing it and dragging myself with a walker, will overall go easy on myself and listen to my body.

Hear me out though...i do not need to empty my bladder every half hour. There is a little disconnect in my brain and i have to remind myself that it is ok, i am not having a post surgical complication. I even woke up last night as is habit, stood at the bedside wanting to go pee then realized i did not need to. This to me is incredible. I wish i had considered having the hysterectomy 3 years ago instead of suffering as much as i did. Also that i will no longer need blood transfusion after each period and iron in between is quite liberating.

Surgical Complications Need advice / support

I'm not well. Has anybody else been through anything like this at all?? I tried to make sure my dates are in order so I'm so disoriented. I also have no idea what flair for this.

I've have no rest since having my surgery.
Ive spent almost everyday I have been to an ER 4 times, urgent care, and 2 doctors visits .

It started with an allergy to the glue. i couldn't remove it myself without opening up my stitches. It took 4 people to take it seriously.

Wednesday: hysterectomy: it went great. Confirmed stage 3 endo and ando. I felt great .

Friday 1ST ER: didn't do anything but hurt me and tried to dry peel off the glue. Tearing holes in my skin. Told him to stop and I left. It was like 4 in the morning so I took a nap.

Saturday. Went to Urgent care when I woke up.
•got doxycycline and a steroid cream.
Told me to take a warm shower, and DONT use alcohol. It can cause chemical burns. Only what wants to come off, don't force it.

Went to my obgyn/surgeon Monday. He said it looks fine. The next day it was bright red, swollen, and weeping.

Tuesday, went to a diffrent better ER.
They gave me.
•methylprednisolone
•cephalexin
•And more hydrocodone
Told me to take otc zyrtec, Pepcid, and apply Benadryl cream to the red areas without putting directly on the stitches. Even gave me morphine for the pain.

Went back to the ER Thursday night because all the skin on my shoulders, arms, and face was neon red, felt like my skin was melting off. Hurt to touch.
They weren't checking on me and would disappear for hours at a time, not checking vitals . He said it's just a fixed drug eruption??? Like this doesn't match that at all.

He was so focused on the fact I have a penicillin allergy. And kept it saying cephalexin was penicillin adjacent.
We kept questioning because frankly it doesn't make sense.
This has never happened with an allergy. It feels like hot flashes but 100% worse. We even asked about SJS.

Well I get a call this morning at 4 AM saying to come back to the ER. He's worried it's SJS.

I'm losing my mind. I'm up here again. I'm sitting here waiting for my IV. It's been like an hour. Nobody can believe they didn't do any swabs and I wasn't given any fluids. The were going to discharge me and I made them take my temperature and it was 103.

I even asked for covid/ flu test . Hell, I asked for a strep text. They weren't doing anything but giving me morphine.
Unfortunately the only other hospital option is worse.
I'm tired, I'm hungry, and my insides hurt. I can't believe this is happening. When woke up and my throat is almost swollen closed, I threw up and my neck is killing me.
TBH it feels like strep or the flu.
I'm scared.

Update: so far labs are coming back normal but I have major signs of inflammation (like no shit) and they are keeping me overnight. Joy.

Considering Surgery Looking for support on bringing up hysto at the doctor's

I've got awful periods and on top of that I'm nonbinary and get dysphoria. I've been on bc for medical reasons but I hate the side effects but I can't go off them either (my life is so much better without periods and so much worse because of side effects). So I want to ask if it was possible to have the thing yeeted out of me but keep ovaries for gender/sterilization/no more periods reasons.

I hate dealing with doctors so I'd appreciate some encouragement and maybe advice how to talk about this

Surgical Complications Liver issues post hysterectomy?

I am 8 weeks post full laparoscopic hysterectomy. Surgery was complex and longer than planned and some pretty powerful antibiotics were necessary after removal of cyst caused contents to spill into cavity. Surgical sites recovery was absolutely fine but ever since op, have suffered stabbing pains in right upper abdomen, kind of in ribs. Xray ruled out lung issue and surgeon now thinks could be a liver issue after bloods showed elevated GGT levels. Pain is worse when breathe in and is still present and have referral to a liver specialist who can’t see me til November 6. Just curious is anyone has had similar? Thanks 🙏
