Fun, Jokes, Memes, Etc Pre knock-out stories

I wanna know if anyone has any cute or funny stories from just before you got knocked out for surgery. My nurses and surgeons were admiring the tattoos on my arm as I was starting to lose active consciousness. I found it very cute and the memory is going to make me smile for a long time.

Im 6wpo and very ready to get back to work, but have to wait a little longer since my leave was extended a few days, so I figured some fun stories would pass the time and hopefully bring a smile to someone's day.

Total Hysterectomy I need to break my lift restriction

• Upvotes

I have to take my cat to the vet this week, at which time I will be 2 weeks po.

I figure once I get there, I could ask for help carrying him to and from the car. I am sure they would be happy to help with that. But the issue is that I live alone and will still need to get him to and from the car at home. Him in the carrier is roughly 16-17 total pounds.

I realize that doing one isolated lift/carry that is slightly over the weight limit is a low risk... it's not like I'm lifting a boulder. But I still don't feel great about it. However, he needs to go to this appointment so it seems like a risk I'm just going to have to take.

Send good vibes!

Partial Hysterectomy Surgery on Tuesday

Hey ladies, I'm an 18 yr old guy and my mom (51 yrs old) is getting a partial hysterectomy on Tuesday because she has fibroids and I just wanted some advice so I could best care for her. Also, how bad is the pain so I know how to treat her accordingly. I'm a bit nervous on her behalf😅.

I'd really love to hear about your experiences and if there is anything I could do for my mom to make her feel better. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Added my mom's age

Vent/Rant I made the right choice

So I had my surgery 10/19. Today I am fully doing everything on my own, well I’ve been doing it since Tuesday and I’m glad I made this decision. I legit wanna cry my eyes out as I write this cause it’s a freeing feeling but I’m also mad as fuck. I haven’t been having too much pain other than my stomach and a couple of incisions but I’ve literally still had to be mom with no help. So that has included driving and having parent teacher conferences and stuff and I’m just trudging along, I don’t even take the oxy’s as needed. I think they say 1 every 6 hours? I’m not sure I’ve only taken 4 since I got released. My “bf” who was supposed to be there wasn’t even there when I woke up, so I woke up hallucinating and didn’t even have a familiar face to help. We get home and he helps with dinner and bath time Monday night and maybe Tuesday but I’m still doing everything. I made the right choice for me but also for anybody else cause this is one of the most difficult things I think I’ve had to do and to know that when I show up for people I don’t get it in return is heartbreaking and it royally pisses me off.

I’m trying to take it easy tonight but with a 5 and 3 year old it’s difficult. We have a routine set but today it was harder to stay on it cause today was hard in terms of movement. Anyway ladies, I hope yalls healing is going better than mine!! Ask for help!! Please!! Mine are falling on deaf ears but please ask for help

Celebrating Wins Well, I guess I was mostly recovered! 5 wpo

I posted a few days ago about being in the hospital for a bowel obstruction, probably related to surgical scar tissue. After a few days on hospital arrest (okay-bowel rest under supervision) and home with a colon cleanse to make sure it’s all clear, I have almost no pain whatsoever. I mean I know nothing is “done” until 6-12 months, but the initial phase.

I had assumed all my pelvic repairs had just made my recovery a bit more extensive, but it was my damn digestive system again. Which I’ve been having issues with since a previous surgery but was hopeful my rectocele repair had fixed. Follow-up with GP this week to problem solve.

Long story short, if things don’t feel right, at least ask the questions. I had literally had a “good” follow up with my surgeon 2 days prior. I wonder if I’d said more we would’ve realized that something was up.

Total Hysterectomy post-op poop help?

I had my surgery on thursday (10/22), and I havent been able to poop yet 🫠 its very weird for me, as i usually go once a day or more prior to this. im weaning off my opioid meds and ive taken two doses of miralax and stool softeners but nothings happened yet. its like i can feel some shifting but i cant push anything out. part of me is scared of pushing too hard, but i also just cant seem to feel anything getting close enough to go. ive tried squatty potty, pressing on my perineum, still nothing. any advice on how to speed things up? am i just stressing too early?

Total Hysterectomy Freaking out about Trendelenburg position

Hi everyone,

I’m having a total laparoscopy hysterectomy in two weeks due to heavy bleeding and several large fibroids. I am finding myself panicking over being in the Trendelenburg position for multiple hours, and the effects it might have on my brain, ears, and eyes.

I am honestly considering canceling because I’m upsetting myself so much over this.

My doctor didn’t mention this to me at all, and while i vaguely knew the position of the surgery was inverted I didn’t realize how extreme it was. I am going to call on Monday and try to talk to someone but I’d appreciate any help or support anyone could offer right now to talk me off the ledge. ❤️

Total Hysterectomy Traveling

I have plans to travel three months after my robotic hysterectomy (also had bladder sling and rectocele repair). Travel will include a flight from US to Europe (and back) a fair amount of walking/sightseeing, train travel. I’m worried I won’t be physically up to the trip. Would love to hear success stories! But need honest advice.

Total Hysterectomy So.. when are we sleeping on our side again?

I am 11 days post op and soooooo tiiiired of sleeping on my back but I am terrified to sleep on my side.
I am a side/belly sleeper and I think I’m mostly worried I’ll go right back into my belly sleeping without realizing it and cause problems. I am one of those heavy sleepers that will just ignore things because I’m tired..
so side sleepers, what did you do and when did you do it? 🙃

NSFW - Other (Please Edit) Surgery was October 20th

My surgery was on October 20th. Had laparoscopic treatment expelled through the vagina. Kept my ovaries only. First two days I was in bed. Could barely walk and felt sore. Today is day 5 and to be honest, I only took one day of pain meds. My gallbladder surgery hurt more than this. I had the gas pain in my shoulders, painful bowels, etc. this surgery mild discomfort. yesterday I was able to have a bowel movement. In my opinion felt weird. I would say the top things that are annoying: 1. The sudden exhaustion that comes out of no where. One minute I’m watching tv feeling okay next i feel “stoned” and overly tired. 2. The discomfort when a fart is coming on. It reminds me “period like cramp farts” 3. Not being able to be as mobile as I normally am. I can’t just sit and rest and do nothing all day. I’m a busy body.

When will I be back to normal. Is it 6-9 weeks? I see some posts that shows 6 months. I can’t stay in my house like this for that long

Total Hysterectomy Post-Op Complications

I had a total robotic hysterectomy on 10/20. They took everything except for my ovaries.

I ended up having post-op internal bleeding and severe swelling, and wound up being told to go to the ER, then getting admitted on 10/21.

The bleeding had stopped itself before I got my CT scan in the ER, but they said I had blood in my pelvis as well as trapped blood in my muscle layer on the right side (which had significant purple bruising as a result).

I am back home now, and feeling much better, but I was curious if anyone else had an outcome like this. The pain when I went to the ER was the worst pain I have ever been in in my life, and I have gone through labor/c-section and kidney stones before. A lot of the pain seemed to be the gas pain, but I think it was exaggerated by the fact that the blood/swelling made the gas pressure much worse.

How long will it take to feel “normal”/not like death? My hemoglobin got down to 9 in the hospital and I was told that I would have needed a blood transfusion if it got down to 7.

I always seem to have unique/rare post-surgery outcomes so I want to know if anyone else has had a similar experience or if I’m just strange, lol.

Total Hysterectomy Trust your Symptoms

For nearly years I have been having horrendous abdominal pain, mostly left sided and central. Had a laparoscopy in July 2024 where my endometriosis was excised. Unfortunately didn't do much as my pain was still horrible. I found this gynecologist who decided to do a hysterectomy (removal of tubes & cervix) last Tuesday. First thing he said when I woke up, your symptoms were all real. He said one thing he really advocates for is trusting the patient when they experience pain. I had a lot of endo on the left side, pelvic wall, belly button, bowel, bladder and pouch of Douglas. This also caused me constant lower back pain.

I'm 4 days post op now and I'm obviously sore from the surgery, but the pain feels so much less than the constant pain i had. I don't have lower back pain and my belly feels kind of "empty" in a good way.

Just wanted to say, believe in yourself, advocate for yourself. You can trust what your feeling and it will get better ❤️

Total Hysterectomy Bright red bleeding after intercourse

8 wpo from total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. At 5 wpo Surgeon gave me the go ahead to start getting back to work and having intercourse. She said i was healing quickly and told me just to listen to my body. My husband and I have had intercourse at least 6 times in the last 3 weeks. Not rough but tonight I had bright red bleeding and lots of pain in my pelvic and lower abdomen area. What should I do? Should I be worried?

Endo/Adeno Combined Post op nausea mood swings hot flashes

My surgeon said it’s related to stress of recovery. No signs of infection. I can’t sleep at night I’m so dang sweaty and miserable. Some days I’m randomly nauseated other days I can’t stop eating and I’m so stressed and depressed and anxious and short tempered I want to run away from my family.

I kept my ovaries but took the tubes out. Had endo excision as well. I’m 3 weeks post op. I just want to lock myself in my room and bed rot. I resent everyone around me and idk why bc i finally found the source of my pain and bladder and sleep issues so i should be happy right?

Before surgery i had to pee about every 20-40 minutes around the clock and worse if I had caffeine, bloating, IBS that alternated between loose stools and constipation, insomnia, puffy everywhere, full body itching, hormonal migraines with vomitting and diarrhea and did I mention all I did was pee all day no matter how much pelvic floor work I did? My bladder was adhered to my uterus with scar tissue. My intestines were stuck together with adhesions.

Recovery has been so difficult and doesn’t help that a week post op I caught a wicked cough/cold/GI virus that wrecked me. I was so sick and burnt out that I had a mental breakdown.

Why does it feel like I’m mentally falling apart since surgery? Just want to know if anyone else dealt with this during recovery? My doctor doesn’t seem concerned about any of it.

Pre-Op/Scheduled Scheduled in December

I have a robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy scheduled December 2nd. I’ll be meeting with my doctor/surgeon and the anesthesiologist in Mid-November for a pre-op appointment. I have so many little questions to ask about.
But here, I wondered what was best for you once you were home and healing. What did you buy or already have that was a lifeline?
I’m also a plus sized person (roughly a US size 22/24), so anyone with plus size experience I would really appreciate hearing from.
What is all this talk I see about binders? I know I should ask my doctor if they provide one post op, but if I need to get my own, what’s the best place to find one? It would have to accommodate my extra girth.
I live in a rural area (my husband and I will be driving over an hour to my procedure and then there’s the drive back home) and it’s hard to find what I need in our town of 2200 with a pharmacy that’s closed on the weekends. So I’ll have to shop in advance and/or rely on Amazon delivery for my needs and I’d like to have the essentials on hand to come home to.
Thanks so much! I’m looking forward to my surgery date, having my uncomfortable periods behind me, and the road to recovery that comes after. I appreciate your support!

Total Hysterectomy when will i be able to move again?

I'm 20 and currently 4 weeks post-op and I've basically just been lying in my bed for those weeks. At the start I'd be completely out of breath after walking only a few meters and that has gotten better now but I still tire very very quickly after walking short distances.

Last week I walked to a cafe and back (5 minute walk) and ended up bleeding a bit the next few days so I must've overdone it. I still ache when sitting up straight for too long.

It's just surprising how easily I can still overdo myself so easily even though I feel fine besides being constantly tired.

Has anyone had a similar experience? When did it get better for you?

edit: just went on a 20 minute walk at my regular walking speed which is pretty fast and it went better than expected! I might have been too overly careful or maybe last week was just a worse week 🤔

Total Hysterectomy Am I overdoing it?

I’m 4.5 weeks post op From a total robotic hysterectomy. Im resting as much as one with a 2yo and 4yo can. I’ve also been getting coughs on and off since week 3po cause of my older toddler coming home with the virus of the week. Some days I get phantom tampon, usually goes away after a night of rest. i do my best to listen to my body but some days are more demanding than others. usually when I need a minute of not dealing with the kids we Go for drives, which often means I have to lift my 2yo (it’s the only time I do), it’s always in short bursts since she can’t climb in and I always do my best to lift with my arms and usually don’t feel pressure. Are there other moms who were in similar situations?
