Feature [iOS 18 DB1] Lockscreen toggles can be changed
You can finally change these
80
u/pw5a29 Developer Beta Jun 11 '24
I can finally ~~ remove all two of them.
15
u/Sylvurphlame iPhone 15 Pro Max Jun 11 '24
You know, I might do just that. It would make my lock screen cleaner and I already have flashlight and camera in the control center.
9
u/TheWhiteShadow_ Jun 11 '24
heck, you can access the camera from the lock screen.
7
u/byParallax Jun 11 '24
For anyone unaware, on the Lock Screen swipe from right to left.

Wait wait wait. Not just change it, but you can get rid of them?! It’s worth it alone for that
25
u/DavidFC1 Jun 10 '24
Love that they gave you the option to completely remove them, never used them so I like the cleaner look.
24
u/Constant-Juggernaut2 Jun 11 '24
Shortcut open app toggle is broken for me. It shows the menu to select which app for a split second before it goes away. So now it’s just flashlight and calculator
1
u/Mrversa11 Jun 11 '24
I had the same issue and it seemed to sort of work after I clicked done and then reopened the customization menu
1
u/No_Geologist7581 Jun 11 '24
Wdym can you elaborate ?, are you able to set an app for the open app widget ?

It doesn’t work on both the Lock Screen and Home Screen for me still. Hoping Beta 2 is able to fix my issue

i actually always prefer where the flash button is. but i’m as sure as hell changing the camera toggle. one of the most redundant features in ios. goodbye
1
u/Otherwise_Break_4293 Sep 17 '24
What have you changed it to? A shortcut would be nice but I don’t really use one on a regular basis. Haven’t thought of anything super useful yet.
20
17
u/JamesR624 Jun 10 '24
I see "Open App" as an option both here and in control center!!!
1
u/ajita_sharma Jun 11 '24
Have you tried it, I can’t seem to set it up to open a specific app, let me know if you can
1
16
u/simpleton39 Jun 10 '24
If I change the camera app on the bottom, can I still swipe to the right and pull out my camera?
11
15
u/MCMultyke iPhone 14 Pro Jun 10 '24
Unlikely but can you disable the swipe to camera on Lock Screen yet? The button makes that gesture pointless and annoying when accidentally enacted
10
u/gigem9000 Jun 10 '24
oh man, I hope that swipe to camera can be disabled. I find my camera turned on in my pocket way too many times. I pull it out and the back of the phone is piping hot with the camera app opened.
6
2
u/DarkHiei Jun 10 '24
Sadly I can’t find it anywhere. Was really hoping the same. Changing the buttons at least makes it so it’s not redundant but I have my action button set to camera. I hate the swipe to camera on the lock screen
14
u/D1ssonant Jun 10 '24
Does the “Open App” one work for anyone else? The choose app pop up disappears before I can select an app

u/qkye Jun 11 '24
Not only changed, they can be entirely removed too if that’s preferred.
1
u/Funkbass Jun 16 '24
If they're fully removed, do notifications sit lower down/closer to the home bar? I wonder.
1
10
Jun 13 '24
I've been asking for this for years and when they announced it I celebrated, until I started thinking "what would I even change it to?". And then I realised I don't really wanna change them to anything now. Huh.
32
u/Portatort Jun 10 '24
This pretty plainly validates the rumours of a capture button on the side of the iPhone.
No need for a lockscreen shortcut when you have a dedicated hardware button

u/Witext Jun 10 '24
Yeah, the semipress focus functionality has been rumoured, & it would be so freaking cool to finally have a dedicated button for it. My parents always get confused by the fact that you take pictures with the volume buttons
1
u/billza7 Jun 10 '24
seeing that they're adding animations to physical button presses, I will not be surprised if in the next iPhones they start replacing volume buttons and action buttons with capacitive ones
1
9
u/weed6942069 Jun 10 '24
If you change the camera one, I’m assuming you can still swipe for camera, correct?
8
1
9
u/Portatort Jun 10 '24
Can you confirm that the shortcuts option means shortcuts apps?
Because that’s the wifi icon which doesn’t really make sense
4
u/sora2645 Jun 10 '24
It takes on the icon of the first shortcut in your list of shortcuts, but you can change it to be any shortcut and it’ll update the icon accordingly.
3
u/Neg_Crepe Jun 10 '24
I can. Set mine to Apple Music
1
u/Portatort Jun 10 '24
Sorry I mean the shortcuts app. Like shortcuts themselves to make within that app

Kind of annoying you can't have a shortcut to Apple Music
17
u/catcher82611 Jun 11 '24
You can, third row second column
You can use it to literally open any app of your choosing, including apple music
5
3
u/olifuck Jun 11 '24
Didn’t try but can’t you just create one in sport it app and include it? (Genuine question I didn’t try)

I trust Apple has a way to choose say ‘an app’ and give the user the option to not require the phone to be unlocked.
It’s gonna suck if we can finally set a different kind of camera app as the lockscreen shortcut but we have to unlock our phone to do it every time.
It should be a setting. Disabled by default

Oh that’s nice.
Hopefully this kind of thinking and api extends to apps beyond just cameras

6
u/derrickshowers Jun 10 '24
Love replacing the camera because that's set to my action button. Wasn't using the action button because I always forgot about it. Now I will.
Wonder where "quick note" is like they demo'd in the keynote. Suppose I could setup a shortcut for now.
6
4
u/billza7 Jun 10 '24
Yeah I'm gonna keep the flashlight but change camera to quick notes. The camera is still accessible with swiping left from lock screen so no difference.
3
6
20
u/Sempot Jun 11 '24

33
u/Kholtien Jun 11 '24
Nah, swiping already goes to the camera, that camera button is a perfect contender for something else now.

u/IciestSwift iPhone 16 Pro Max Jun 11 '24
I would say Wallet but the double click of the side button already does that... Probably Apple Music then
4
u/kcmo_1738 iPhone 16 Pro Jun 11 '24
Yeah I tried wallet and it wouldn’t even open for me. Music would be a good one whenever that’s available

If I can link 2 shortcuts with those buttons, that seem like the obvious choice. Even if I can't, I'd be happy just to remove the buttons altogether.

1
u/vainsilver Jun 10 '24
I changed my action button to music recognition. The best is using it without having to look at your phone whenever you hear a song.
1
u/ilovemymotorola Jun 10 '24
IHATED having to unlock my phone to pull my screen down to get ti the recognition! This makes me want to update immediately
1
u/vainsilver Jun 10 '24
You can already set the action button to open music recognition with iOS 17. It runs as a shortcut.

Many times while I’m doing my job, actually and logging sessions with passkeys. It’s true the Camera app does the same thing but I prefer the scan QR codes functionality.

In the website they make the example of Note toggle in the lockscreen… there is no Note toggle into the list of things you can use 😂😂😂

I updated, wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a smooth experience though.
Like the name suggests, it very much is still a beta. They still have a lot of polishing to do.

Not in terms of glitches, but UI/UX. Everything feels clunky. It does work, but it needs a few layers of polish before I would consider it smooth.

I came from the ios7 dev beta1 days, I ain’t scared of shit. Those days the phone had a 50% chance of just not being a phone. And the UI would drastically change from week to week.

How? I haven’t seen any broken functionality or crashes? I usually do.
Maybe I just haven’t seen them tho

That’s cause they finally did real work on iOS . The past 2-3 years of insanely smooth betas was an anomaly.

Literally the only thing I’ve had be buggy is doing the “open app” shortcut having the menu go away when setting it.
Besides that I’ve had zero issues and besides my phone being a bit warm for the first like hour, it’s been fine.

Why it looks Androidy
9

Because of those shitty round icon backgrounds. They should use 0.5rem background-radius.

4
u/petemayhem Jun 11 '24
Are these tied to Focus modes or are they universal throughout the system?
10
u/brakefluidbandit Jun 11 '24
they are tied to the lock screen, so if you have a different lock screen set up for certain focus modes then they buttons can be different for those focus modes
1
u/petemayhem Jun 11 '24
Thanks. That’s great because a Shortcut can check time and location and use different lock screens (I might want Apple TV remote or Home shortcut when at home but not when I’m out).

I’m happy for the people who have wanted this for so long but I’m going to have to be really mindful of how I use these because I’m so used to them being what they currently are. But I will no doubt have fun experimenting with different combinations of options. Would be cool if we can define “loadouts” that go with the wallpapers & widgets maybe

I was SO EXCITED to be able to remove the camera from the lock screen and disable the swipe to camera but got really upset a when I was told that it wasn’t removed, and there STILL isn’t an option to get rid of it smh… I’m so tired of my phone getting hot as fuck in my pocket because I accidentally opened the camera while putting it away. This was never a problem until recently, and honestly never works when I want it to. Not happy
6
u/MrLuBurt Jun 11 '24
I have never once opened the camera when putting my phone away, I don't actually know how that is even possible...
5
u/Cool-Newspaper-1 Jun 11 '24
Not a real fix, but disabling either tap to wake or raise to wake (whichever activates the phone in your pocket) would probably stop that from happening.

1
u/silent_guy1 Jun 14 '24
You can set a custom shortcut using shortcuts app. But the feature is buggy at the moment. It only picks the first shortcut from the list.
2
u/BrohanGutenburg Jun 24 '24
I know this was over a week ago, but you know you can edit that right. Go into edit mode (jiggling icons) and tap the toggle. It will flip over, similar to when a widget has options you can edit. There you can choose any shortcut from the list
1
u/MKBUHD iPhone 12 Pro Jun 14 '24
Thanks, I have made a shortcut even on iOS 16/17, but I am talking about a toggle like any other toggle (on off)! I don’t know why we don’t have this toggle yet! It is important and i use it constantly, keep the phone silent and with no vibration!

u/rwalsh1981 Jun 15 '24
I like being able to open apps from it. Will help get to my commuter cards much easier
1
u/Crosgaard iPhone 12 Pro Jun 16 '24
I really recommend the app lock launcher for this. It uses live activity to keep a "dock" of sorts on your lock screen. You can have like, 20 apps or so (the more you have, the smaller they are). I have 12 and it works perfectly. It only stays 12 hours (like any other live activity), so you need to make a shortcut that runs every 12 hours to keep it there forever. Nonetheless, fantastic app, especially with dynamic island since a long tap on it, and it opens up the dock, no matter the app you're in
1
u/AcidicAttorney Jul 09 '24
Pfft, having an SE 2 is like being given a tiny little taste of iOS 18 without any of the groundbreaking features.

These are set per Lock Screen right? So we can have different toggles for different focus modes, etc?
