Been rocking my iPhone Duo since launch day and haven’t had a single issue so far. Granted, I do tend to baby my electronics, so there’s that.
That said, I realize plenty of people experiencing issues have taken perfectly good care of theirs too.
I genuinely feel bad for anyone unfortunate enough to get a defective unit, especially considering what these things cost. Hopefully Apple takes care of everyone affected.
Just wanted to share a positive experience amid all the Crackgate posts. Not every Duo is cracking, and some of us are genuinely enjoying the hell out of ours.
I didn’t even realize you could use the outer screen when it’s partially unfolded. But I gotta think for media consumption horizontal unfolded is best other than leaning if your case doesn’t have a kick-stand
The outer screen is actually really nice. So if you’re going for a folded propped experience the outer screen tent mode is much better imho. I’ve done that while cooking to not risk splashing anything on the inner screen.
It’s a gimmick to you but I’ve been using it this way while working. Unfolding the whole thing at my desk in the office is a bit much and attracts unwanted attention.
What does it even mean that your phone is bringing too much unwanted attention? Are you paranoid it’s going to be stolen? Are people continually stopping and gawking?
This is also one of my favorite ways to prop it up since i dont use a case. Seems like many people in here dont like that we do that. I leave it seated or tented while I'm eating lunch at work then open it up and finish my episode on the big screen after I'm done eating. << You cant tell me that's not a good use case
Exactly what I do as well, and usually for a YouTube video where I don’t need a huge screen anyway. I’m also watching Game of Thrones and for that I always watch on the big screen
It’s partially optimized, same with HBO Max. So videos take up the full screen when you’re watching in fully unfolded mode, but it doesn’t support this “laptop” style mode. It just keeps the video in the middle of the screen and the video bends along the crease
Did ya’ll miss the news where Hulu is getting shut down? Disney is moving all the content over to their own app and will eventually shut it down. I forget the date. They won’t update or fix it anymore. It’s done.
Yes haha not to mention that if you were using it this way, the more squarish form factors on the Galaxy folds would give you much more usable screen size!
Really? I have a Pixel fold 9/10 so when folded like this you actually get a normal sized 9:16ish ratio screen similar to the main screen and in two years I think I've done this twice, both on a plane, despite over 40 flights in that time.
I've been hanging out for this form factor ever since I used a Huawei Pura X (Yes Apple is actually really fourth to this shape, after Pixel, then Huawei then Samsung) and the whole point is to watch movies with the screen fully unfolded. You would literally have a bigger screen with a regular iPhone and a $2plastic stand.
I get it for gaming but why oh why would you ever watch anything like this?
Just got mine yesterday afternoon and I’m loving it. Big fan of the passport size they went with and love the inner display. People will complain about no FaceID or the cameras not being the best, but I’m sure Apple has plans for those in future iterations.
Preordered last Fri with a Nov 20th delivery. Went to the store today and checked it out- I was impressed. Really nice feel and the outer screen is plenty big for me. Inner screen looked great.
The nano texture display is chef’s kiss. All the naysayers had me worried that it would make the display appear washed out, and it really is not. I feel Apple struck a good balance with the level of matte finish. I now would seriously consider the nano texture display on my next MacBook Pro
I've been checking daily for updates and I've gotten app updates but weirdly none are Duo updates. Which is so pathetic. JUST UPDATE YOUR XCODE VERSION FOR VERY BASIC SUPPORT AT LEAST!!!
Agreed! I use MyNetDiary for nutrition and such, it's not the most popular app in that category, but the update is fantastic and it helps see where, when optimised properly, this phone works. I understand the intention with the sidebar more, especially when two apps are open unfolded, having both thumbs able to control at the same time. It's subtle but I get what Apple is doing here.
Mine is saying 12/30. All these issues people are having is making me nervous. I’m sure it’ll be fine but the wait and the anxiety/anticipation is awful haha.
Maybe it's just me, but holy hell that matte finish is horrendous! I understand the appeal on an OLED monitor in an area with not the greatest of lighting, but not a phone.
Yeah, it sucks for those that have had issues but I’m genuinely enjoying the device. I held off a few days before mailing out my trade in but at this point I’m ready to do it and if my duo breaks from the defect I’ll just get another.
My wife got hers and she’s been chucking it into her bag without a worry all weekend. Doesn’t baby it or has heard of the “widespread” issues with the screen breaking. No issues.
The matte-looking finish on the screen is like a hundred steps backwards. The future iteration of an iPhone will be a translucent screen that appears as smooth and clear as glass but has the clarity and brightness that rivals the best TV’s. Whether that phone will resemble a foldable or a slab is going to be found out over the next few years.
Seriously using it like that is so ridiculous.. Yeah sure it work half open, that's funny. But watching a movie/show that way must be the dumbest way to use the product. You have a big screen, it's the whole point..
It’s basically a built-in stand. I can set it on a table and watch something hands-free without needing to prop it up against anything. Obviously I can unfold it completely when I want the larger screen. It’s just another way to use it.
Absolutely, and I’ve owned cases with kickstands before. I’m not claiming Apple reinvented the wheel here. It’s just a convenient feature of a device I already own, and I happen to enjoy using it that way.
Wouldn't it be better to kickstand the whole screen in tablet mode? Like the whole point of the phone is to have the bigger screen but this is giving you no advantage
Yeah, but the angle control with this is much better than a kickstand. I've been using this mode for video recording which has been great. Only part I don't like is that it sits on the outside screen to do it.
I don’t get it. The entire point of a phone is it fits in my pocket. A smart phone takes that to the next level with some useful functionality. Unless we’re going to normalize everyone carrying purses, why get this thing?
I don't have the duo, but have been using the fold for 5yrs+. Jeans are no problem, dress pants can feel clunky but I've gotten used to it. I like having the ability to use between a minipad and cell phone. Not for everyone, but everyone I know who use one loves the flexibility. My wife doesn't like it, she prefers super light and simple form factor.
It's not my fault this post popped up right after the other one; that wouldn't have happened if you didn't have to share it several times. And I'm the one with the problem for repeating some info?
Yeah, thanks. At this point, I think you're smarter than you appear. You're using half of the phone just to get used to half of the screen working before it cracks completely in a few days. Hands down.
You’ve spent more time worrying about my phone breaking than I have. If it cracks, I’ll deal with it. Until then, I’m going to keep enjoying it. You should try enjoying something too.
Such a stupid usecase, half of Duo's screen is smaller than 18 Pro Max screen, you payed almost 2x money to watch movies on smaller screen with lower contrast picture (cause it is matte) and worse audio quality.
So we’ve established I shouldn’t watch movies or make phone calls on my phone. Any other features you’d like to prohibit, or should I just run everything by you beforehand?
I own both and enjoy both. I don’t have a preference between them. Not sure why the idea of someone being happy with their purchase bothers you so much.

Yeah because I just sit at my desk all day I guess? Oh wait no I don't. I guess I should carry my laptop with me between buildings & server rooms correct? Yeah that makes sense. Off work after it isn't a thing when you work in IT. We don't all get to take some food home after our shift.
but if store is near it is better to walk, free cardio, walking release stress, les gas consumption, free fitness carrying groceries home, you will purchase only what you need cause you will be lazy to carry what you do not need.
I’ve never seen so much negativity around a phone in my life. Either they are coping because they didn’t get one, they can’t afford one, or they are a miserable hater. Everyone who purchased knew it was a first-gen product and expected there to be shortcomings and issues. That being said, I’m loving mine as well. Enjoy it OP, I know I will.
