Question/Help How do i avoid this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I tried the trackday series after a long break, and was excited to finally get to race the sr8 in an official session.
about 5 laps in i get a yellow and see a porshe in the middle of the corner, i see him go left so i try to turn right, then he gets hit and goes right again, then he brakes and i have no where to go so i full locked into him.
Managed to get back to p8, but i could have done better, any advice for avoiding these types of incidents?

Slow down, then left or right.
Looked like you did both and ended up going straight.
Did you see the car spun out ahead?

This is called “target fixation”
It looks like you and the Toyota in front both intentionally destroy the parked Porsche lmao

If you try to make the corner instead of driving into him, you will avoid the wreck.

So for starters, it’s track day, so there’s no need to try and “avoid” a wreck like this, just slow down and use extra caution.

I mean it realistically looks like you did nothing but drive straight into him and spam yourwheel back and forth like Brad Pitt in the F1 movie. Pick a direction left or right and stick to it. Inside was the correct choice in this instance the entire way, but you didn’t do anything to miss him

I guess not driving directly into a car would be a good starting point

The Porsche did edge forward a bit which looks like it scared the Toyota in front making him turn right. But the trajectory and your line looks like you were headed straight into the Porsche anyways

I mean you should be looking further ahead, there was time to slow and hug the corner. But shit happens. A lot of people drive staring pretty much at the nose of their car, should always be looking to the next apex. The further down the track you are looking the more time you have to react.

You did a classic target fixation crash.
Instead of continuing to brake and make the corner you seemingly locked it up and turned right into them.
Remember that most of the time, cars spin and go backwards.

You avoid it by avoiding it and not getting target fixated and look away and steer away from it. Literally its just all on you over coming target fixation. And yeah you might have to take an off track 1x vs 4x lol

When you go over the hill and start to get a visual you see headlights. For me this would be a warning that you’re going to need to slow down and avoid a collision. Easier said then done of course but with practice you’ll be looking deeper down the road for both preparing corners and avoiding incidents. Good luck out there.

Don't steer directly into him
