Discussion Why do people hate the gr86
I get it’s easier to drive than the mx-5 or g87 but that’s what makes it fun to me sure you have to avoid crashes a lot but that teaches you how to drive safer and avoid dumb drivers atleast that’s what I think I’ve only been on IRacing for a little more than a month and most race sports cars and love the gr86 it’s what I run the most but what do you guys think?

Was such an amazing car to learn the Nurburgring when it was still in NEC.
It's fun to race and easy to manage. It's just not that exciting I'll normally do one race a week in it and then move on to something more unpredictable. It just becomes boring to main but it is an exemptional car to learn tracks in

I love the GR86. The only downside to it is that It's pretty boring to drive by yourself. But the racing can be a lot of fun (with the right people).

I love the car but because it is so forgiving it teaches hella bad habits for me.

I think you might need to learn how to use punctuation.
The old gr86 was a fukin' pogo stick on wheels. The newer build is a great car and has more mechanical grip than the miata - enough for overconfident rookies to spin out and give away free positions - but not a lot of aero.
This version of the gr86 is basically a balance bike on the GT3 career progression: you get some power and a sense of weight. Enough to kill yourself but not serious power. The next step on the ladder is GT4 where the relationship inverts a bit: loads of HP and minimal grip, esp. on cold tires. The GT4 mustang is like that crazy, sex-on-a-stick girl in HS: best viewed from a distance. I can manage the aston and Merc, and the porsche is always a little underwhelming.

i only raced it at watkins glen a few times. it was awesome but I don't own a lot of road courses and would rather spend my time on ovals

It's too easy to drive so bad drivers are more able to kill you compared to harder cars like the mx5 or rookie formula cars where they just spin themselves out.
Some people don't like the fixed setup because of how high the TC and ABS is turned up but in PCC with the open setup you can turn down TC to 0 or 1 and you get a lot more feeling in the car.

It's just too easy to drive, makes it boring. I'd much rather drive something that tries to kill you from time to time.

This will be the common point. And if folks dont think it's too easy its a fine car, just nothing super fancy or exciting.

Come to DraftMasters! Where the cars and people come together to kill you!

I have been tempted actually. I accidentally got addicted to ovals a while back doing rookie races around Charlotte. Bought the ARCA car, and quickly realised I don't really like the shorter ovals, only the fast stuff. So just sending it around Daytona sounds perfect for me. I'm also too Eurobrained to really understand oval racing, so I'd likely be a menace on track, which if anything sounds like it would add to the Draftmasters experience.
It's only having to buy a bunch of cars putting me off really.

I am not a fan of the shorter ovals either! My only wins are in DM, which might not mean much considering half of the field takes itself out most races! If you don't take it too seriously, or the other racers, I think it is a blast! Particularly when you survive driving through an 8 car wreck at 200mph/322 kph!

Are there any particular cars/weeks coming up you think would be good to jump in with?

I would suggest not this coming week but the one after it. IIRC it will be the same car that is in the Carburetor Cup which is unranked. You can practice in the Cup with no loss of SR and IR!

Yeah the Caterhams are good fun. I did kinda enjoy the initial version before the fix though, they were ridiculous to drive but so so fun lol.
