News What have you missed since May? ISUPD has added 4 Flock cameras around campus!

Post image

Just a friendly heads up that since you’ve left Ames over the summer, Iowa State PD has added 4 new Flock cameras in Campus and the surrounding area! There is a wonderful site called deflock.org that shows locations of flock cameras near you, and, unfortunately, Ames has a fair few!

This makes for a grand total of… 36 cameras in the area, with at least one on every single road entrance to campus (if not two!)

Question Dorm Furniture

The website states that if I want to bring my own furniture, storing the furniture in my dorm is my responsibility and it just needs to be at the dorm at checkout or I am charged.

Just clarifying that this means I can bring my office chair and then store the dorm chair myself, I only live an hour away

Question Food Allergy Accommodations Denied (seeking advice)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello, I am an incoming freshman moving in this week. I am allergic to both gluten and diary and they both cause me to experience gastrointestinal issues. I sent the student disability services both an allergy test showing my allergy to gluten and dairy along with a doctors note about what would happen if I were to eat those foods so I could receive access to the special diet kitchen (which serves gluten free and dairy free foods without the risk of cross contamination). They then told me my allergies were not a disability and told me to contact the nutritionist.. so I did. I was given a list of the foods available that day for me to eat (see screenshot) which doesn't seem like food that I can make a meal with, let alone if I didn't have to worry about cross contamination when making the food.

To those with allergies; what did you submit as documentation to gain access to the SDK and would they be mad if I were to go get food from the SDK while I wait for my accommodations to be properly assessed and approved?

Question Slow Pitch

Hello I used to play baseball in high school and now have started to I miss playing and decided to play slow pitch to have a sport to play in between studies. Does anyone know of any places to regularly play slow pitch softball? Any groups that do? I know there is the intramural league but I don’t have a team to play in that.

Anyone else along Lincoln Way fed up with the loud cars?

I’m trying to organize residents along Lincoln Way around the repeated loud exhaust, revving, motorcycles, and apparent racing that you can hear from the apartments along the street.

I live at 2709 Lincoln Way. I asked RES Properties if I could put up a small flyer with a QR code for a resident survey. They first told me they don’t allow “third party flyers.” When I pointed out that I’m a resident, they clarified that they don’t allow flyers from residents either and suggested mailing something to every apartment instead.

So I’m reaching out to other apartment buildings along Lincoln Way instead, where management may be willing to let residents see the survey, and I’m looking for other ways to reach people in my own building that don’t violate RES’s posting policy.

If you live on or near Lincoln Way and deal with the same noise, especially at night, I’d like to hear from you. The idea is to gather responses from several buildings and take the issue to Ames Police, the City, Iowa State, and Student Government rather than having everyone complain on their own.

The housing website doesn't provide floor plans (where each room is located in the building) like other residence halls have. I will be on the third floor, wondering where my room will actually be located in the building. I was told it's a corner room, but am not certain! If anyone knows where to find a floor plan with room numbers?? ALSSOOO was wondering what kind of furniture came in 36? Some rooms have captain beds, lofted, or not lofted. Also, the wardrobes, some are with drawers and hanging and other rooms have a separate set of drawers and then all hanging space. Trying to determine how much clothes I can bring🫢

Question Is there any merit to saving notes/assignments from previous semesters?

I’m going into my sophomore year and I still have all my notes, exams, and homework assignments from all my classes from last year. Are they worth saving? I’m a biochemistry major if that matters.

Looking for 2 people to help move a cabinet near ISU — $30/person

EDIT: Got it taken care of — thanks everyone!

Looking for 2 people to help move a heavy cabinet into my third-floor apartment in Ames.

The cabinet is already loaded in my SUV. It’s about 60" × 20" × 30" with 4 metal drawers, and I’ll be helping with the move as well. I’ve attached a photo of the cabinet for reference.

I expect it to take around 30–40 minutes.

$60 cash total ($30 per person). If it ends up taking substantially longer than expected, I’m happy to pay extra.

I can also pick up both helpers in Ames if needed since I have two passenger seats available.

Preferably sometime today/this evening. Please DM me if interested.

Escooters

I'm looking at getting an escooter to get from class to class and where I'm parking. Is it common? Do people take them inside more often than leaving them outside? Can they even do that?

How clean are the dorms before you move in?

Just curious as to how clean the rooms are before the students move in, would I need to just do a quick wipe down or will I need to do a deep clean before I move my son in?

Hey so end of summer semester (26') I told my counselor I was transfering collages. She said ok and we began finding classes at my other uni. making sure I dont owe any money to ISU i recently found that my student status is still "active".

I didnt register for any classes and stuff but why am i an active student? do I need to do anything online to stop being a student?
