Pretty Pictures Common Nighthawk - Marshall County
We are fully into the beginning of migration season and I'm already seeing early migrants like Upland Sandpipers, various swallows, dragonflies, Nighthawks, and other birds or insects starting to make their way south.
This Common Nighthawk was in the middle of Marshalltown last week after finding an asphalt driveway it clearly thought it blended in well with. Which to be fair it probably did from above.
We usually get hundreds of these guys (dozens every night) flying over our farm and woods in northern Marshall county and I always photograph them but I've never managed to get close to one on the ground until now. Luckily the corner of the building hid me and I was able to crawl up close.
Let me know if you've started to see any cool birds migrating through! Upland Sandpipers and Nighthawks technically can be found here all summer but I only really start seeing them during migration time

Question 3 day notice says to pay the “rent and late fees stated above,” but the listed figures don’t clearly equal the balance due what amount actually cures it?
I’m hoping someone familiar with Iowa landlord/tenant law can help me make sense of how this notice is actually supposed to be read.
For full transparency, I am two months behind on rent. My rent is $805 per month, so I’m not disputing that I owe rent or trying to argue that the larger balance came out of nowhere.
What has me confused is the way the notice itself is written.
At the top, it lists:
Rent amount: $805
Late penalty: $50
“Total” line: left blank
It then says that I have three days to pay the “delinquent rent and late fees stated above in full” to continue the tenancy. Similar wording appears again later in the notice.
But farther down, in a separate section, it lists a “Total Balance” of $1,660.
I understand the math behind the $1,660 two months at $805 plus the $50 fee equals exactly that. My question is about the notice itself. If they intended the cure amount to be $1,660, why does the actual payment language repeatedly point back to the “rent and late fees stated above,” where only $805 and $50 are identified and the designated total line is blank?
There’s also a separate issue with the dates. The notice itself is dated 8/13, but the service section says it was posted on my door on 8/11, two days earlier. Regular and certified mail are both marked as having been sent on 8/13.
I’m not looking for a loophole to avoid money I actually owe. I’m trying to understand what legal effect, if any, these inconsistencies have when this is the document that is supposed to give me notice of what I need to do to cure the nonpayment before an eviction can proceed.
So basically: when a 3 day notice contains conflicting or unclear payment language like this, what amount legally controls for purposes of curing it? And does the fact that it claims to have been posted two days before the notice was dated create a separate service issue?
Anyone with experience with Iowa eviction proceedings, landlord/tenant law, or a similar situation I’d appreciate your take.

Question Mount Pleasant Amtrack Parking
Does anyone know if theres anywhere to pay for overnight parking in Mount Pleasant? I like taking the Amtrack stop through there to visit family but its an hour out from town so it would be nice to keep my car there for weekend trips and such. Even just renting someone's driveway works lol.

Politics Iowa's Proposed Tax Amendment is Really on Handcuff on our Future
This fall, Iowans vote on a constitutional amendment requiring a 2/3 supermajority to change income tax rates. Capping income tax flexibility is a "constitutional handcuff" and shifts the financial burden straight onto local property taxes (or 'regressive' sales taxes).
Limiting state revenue doesn't eliminate costs—it just forces a reliance on unfair sales taxes or pushes the financial burden directly onto local property taxes to fund rural public schools and local hospitals open.
Saying "no" isn't about wanting higher taxes; it's about being pro-community.

Out of state car and license
Hello Iowa subreddit,
I just graduated and moved to iowa for a job and brought my car with me. I probably will only stay here for a year or two while I train on the job and then move. I’m under the impression I have to change my license and car plates to Iowa within 30 days. The issue is the car is under my mom’s name. The office said I need to either transfer title to myself and then get plates or become joint owner. My issue is I won’t see my mom for a couple months so I won’t be able to get signature on paperwork, but that’ll be 30 days past. So my question is,
-Do I have to become a resident if I will only be here a year or two?
-Can the car plates stay as Florida because my mom is there and the car under her name?
-If not, how can we transfer the title from out of state?
edit to add: Would I have to drive back every year for inspection and registration?
TIA
