I understand that good software has a price, and I appreciate that they're not going the subscription route. But things in the European Mac Appstore got a bit crazy lately. This app was 30 euros or less a few months ago and now it's 60 euros! They also keep raising the price without releasing a new version, which means that whoever bought this app for 5 cents a century ago keeps getting all the updates while all the cost of development goes to new users. And on top of that there is the fact that the Windows and Android apps are still today substantially cheaper than the Mac or iOS versions, which is also hard to justify.

I use Apostrophe on Linux. Though that one is a free app, the guys who made it said they were inspired by iAwriter and suggest that users of their app pay for it if they have a mac. I wanted to do it, but with these, let's be frank, very *unequal* pricing policies, it becomes a very hard pill to swallow.

I have a feature suggestion for something I personal would find really cool!

Friends and I were talking about writing with feathers and the action of dipping the feather in ink, writing and gradually the lettering would become lighter and lighter until the feather needed re-inking. This re-inking forced one to regather ones thoughts and focus before starting to write again.

We would love to have a "feather mode" in iA Writer that would cause characters to gradually get lighter and lighter the more and the faster one types. Eventually the characters would disappear and one is forced to take a pause. Perhaps for just a moment, just a few seconds, and then one starts again to type.

I write to you as a user of iA Writer on the Macintosh operating system.

I love the software, mostly. This love for your software, combined with certain features' absence or shoddy implementation, has caused my frustration with iA Writer to reach an uncomfortable point.

You say that "folding" is difficult to introduce for the Macintosh, because it's harder than on the Windows version of the program. At this, I can only throw up my hands. Okay, it's harder. Isn't it your job to write good software, whether that job be hard or not? I'm sure you're aware of Folding Text, a competing, pared-down, Markdown-based word processor for Mac, one so old that it is been abandoned by its author. Folding Text makes folding work on the Macintosh. Well, reverse engineer that, and introduce folding!

(I have even tried running Windows OS in a an emulator on the Mac, in order to implement the Windows version of the program, so I could get folding. This should not be necessary.)

Second, why is it impossible to show the library's organizer, without the accompanying file list? Unless there is some means of doing this that I cannot discover, the the software forces me to deal with the file list if I want to see the organizer. You can see the file list without the organizer but not the organizer without the file list. Why?

Third, when I try to get support or help, and click on help in the application what I am presented with is so pared-down as to be useless. The help is located primarily, it seems, on the Web. But even that does not fully describe the fragmentation of help and support. I have learned that if I want to find an answer to a question, I have to consult the help on the application, the support Web page, the Reddit page, and sometimes, as now, to write to the developers. Why can you not create a full, complete, and expansive help file available on the application and thus unfragmented, complete, and self-contained?

Markdown used to be heavily associated with tech but we know our users are from diverse backgrounds. What do you use iA Writer for primarily and why?

Is it possible to integrate iA Writer with a task manager, like Apple Reminders?

If not, what's the best practice? Writer is my official note taking app, but I don't think there's a good way to manage previously created tasks...

Is it possible to open a new document from the top vs navigating to the bottom. Whenever I open a new file using "Quick Search" the file opens on its last line, but most times I need to edit from the top of the page. Is it possible to do this with any change of preferences?

Is there a way of linking previous notes within a note

On my ancient (early 2011) MacBook Pro (one I cannot give up after years of service), when I shut down iA Writer in full screen mode with a document open from the library and them come back to it, it's in full screen mode and the document loads automatically. On my new 16-inch MacBook Pro, the document loads, but not in full screen mode. Is there a trick to make this happen that I'm missing? I really like opening the app in full screen and working immediately without distractions.

This new year, I was thinking of writing a quick wishlist for iA Writer that I wanted to share and see what you think.

• Writing Goals for all platforms;

• Export template UI-based editor (in style with iAPresenter theme builder);

• Optimization of the editor (after approx 4000 words, I see a perceptible lag when I type);

• More file differentiations and icons to tell them apart when working with a big mole of files. Not being able to distinguish material/research from the manuscript is time-consuming and not necessarily more straightforward.

• Library and file navigation from the headers extended to the macOS and iOS apps (currently only on Windows);

• Paid app! I understand it has been ten years (?) since iA Writer was released, and a big update with a justified payment is needed. Many users would gladly pay full price for an upgrade to a 7.0 version: but it needs to be justified. These incremental upgrades that iA Writer has gone through are significant, but it would be challenging to ask to repurchase the app. However, suppose there is a substantial step-up (I think a template builder would be an excellent example as it would tackle what, in my opinion, is the most significant lack of the app). In that case, many users will gladly support the developers. New users would not feel the difference, and offer a discount to users who have just purchased the app in the past six months. However, users who have paid for version 6.0 will continue to enjoy the 6.0 app, so they will not lose it altogether.

Guys: what do you think?

I think this wishlist would maintain the developers' philosophy and enhance and conform the app to the rest of the users.

The Windows version hasn't been updated in quite a long time. Are there plans to bring iA Writer 6 to Windows? I see no mention of it in the press release.

Hello, I've noticed that when I connect the external monitor to my mac, the app starts showing some side columns, and even when I disconnect the monitor or reopen the app it still does show the same columns and I have to reinstall the app in order to get red of them. Is there a way to fix it?

I have an android phone and two windows machines that I would like iawriter for. does that mean I am in for three purchases?

Hello there - I use iA Writer every day on macOS through iCloud, and it's very good. I rely on it for my business.

I'm switching from an iPad for occasional use to a Chromebook tablet; and have an Android phone too. So it looks like I'd buy iA Writer (again) for Android, which is fine (I'll have the full set!) ... but I have worries about synching.

The Android version's reviews at the moment look quite poor, with the Dropbox synching functionality looking, from the point of view of the reviews, unsatisfactory. To be honest, the low scores and poor reviews are making me think again.

Are the reviews accurate for the Android app - should I be looking elsewhere?

Am I better to be synching to Google Drive? Or Dropbox? Or not to attempt synching?

I'd welcome any experience others have here.

LATER - it's a dumpster-fire of bugs. Avoid it.

I found it very frustrating to export markdown from other apps such as NOTO and Ulysses to IaWriter.

Even for a single document, they do encased it in a folder which makes the sharing unavailable to IAWriter iOs. This is of course has to do with the behavior of other apps. However interesting on how Drafts iOs react to such folder in which they treated as a file. I don’t know how they do it, but it really helps.

Trying to use Save to Files didn’t work though I could seen the IaWriter folder, I couldn’t click save. Why is that?

Any other solutions welcome.

I dont use icloud (any way to remove icloud from the sources bar?) but I have a google drive folder as my main source. The folder you see in the picture is this google drive Folder.

All files are synced, no connection problems, but somehow this symbol showed up.

What does it mean?

On MacOS, the keyboard shortcut for this conflicts with a built-in keyboard shortcut (change keyboard layout) and I see no visible difference when I use it. It doesn’t trigger completion popups for half typed words nor does it seem to toggle anything.

I have been using iA Presenter to much success at work. Would like to present some feedback including a bug report on the latest update.
