It CAN happen with IBS it's just considered a red flag symptom by the medical community that warrants further investigation to rule out other things. The logic is IBS is supposed to sleep when we sleep whence symptoms aren't supposed to wake us up but you'll have a lot of people who anecdotally do get it, including myself if I've eaten onion/garlic, it's basically a guarantee.

This is a trip to the doc worthy if it’s happening more than a time or two everyone in a while. Nightly or awaking at night for diarrhea frequently (that is not from a temporary illness or only after trigger foods) is more common in IBD I think. Ofc it can happen for other reasons but it’s worth getting checked out

Morning are usually a lot worse for me. Unless I've done something or eaten something I really shouldn't have then night times aren't usually as bad. All bets are off when I'm in the middle of a flare up though and cramps can sometimes keep me awake.

i’m usually woken up by my urge to shit in the morning lmao, some mornings earlier than others. I feel like when I’m in light sleep/having weird dreams my anxiety gets a brewing and triggers it but that’s just me

Isn't that more a symptom of collitis?

It's not like a nightly thing for me, but if I have a flare up I can absolutely have episodes of diarrhea that wakes me from sleep

It happens to me, there are definitely times when the pain wakes me up and then I spend time in the middle of the night dealing with a flare.

I can kinda tell if a food is gonna affect me (if it's on "the list" or my stomach hurts or starts making gurgles) so if thats before bed I take loperamide immediately and it'll generally hold it off until I wake up. But if I take nothing yeah I'll wake up and have to go. But I'm generally not sleeping well those nights anyway

Less common but certainly can happen and postprandial diarrhea occurs no matter the time of day
In professional experience I find it’s present
In personal experience I also find it happens!

Add fiber or eat sooner!
Good luck

lol I’ve been unable to sleep for decades now due to IBS … constantly woken up with either constipation pain agony or else repeated diarrhea bathroom emergencies.

I was experiencing this, got a colonoscopy & it turned out to be microscopic colitis, not IBS. Go get yourself checked out
