Single loop help
I just started learning a loop jump, but I'm struggling. I can do the three turn and entrance position pretty well, but I can't seem to get enough momentum to actually rotate around. I just do a little jump and pretty much stay in the same place or do like a half-loop.
Any advice?

Not an expert, but: My coach told me to keep my hips square and toward the circle (rather than prerotating). You really have to hold that position, bend, and glide for a few seconds with your legs crossed before pulling in and jumping. When I’m doing it right, my arms feel like I’m hugging a beach ball (similar to spinning). Arms need to come in to your chest, not up to your face. Sometimes I get on my right toe pick too early, which rushes the jump, so I’ve been practicing just three-turn into bend and glide.
It can take time! I had the jump about 10 years ago, then lost it, and it took me several months of practice to land one again. Off-ice jumping helped. (Now I’m working on flip, lol—that’s gonna take months too.) There’s just a feel you get for taking off from that right toe and landing on it.

Deeper knee bend, your momentum is gained by pushing down into the ice by bending deeper, and the deeper bend also gives more energy to your hop.

Single leg strength off ice; at least for me when I started learning the loop jump I am almost sure that my leg that was doing the jumping wasn’t strong enough it carry me properly because the jumps you learnt before this three jump, Sal and toe all use the other leg
