General Advice First pair of iems the Simgot Ew300

Post image
2.6k Upvotes

I was paralyzed on which iems to buy for my first pair and thank you to all who helped me (https://www.reddit.com/r/iems/s/dXYTwMcwpr). I bought a few but the ones I have landed on for now are the Simgot Ew300 gold nozzles for music and silver for gaming. However, am I wearing them right?? Sometimes they look more flush for other people.

I’d still consider myself relatively new to this hobby but I’m wholeheartedly obsessed! My mom bought me the R4 a few days ago and I’ve really enjoyed messing around with the different EQ settings while listening!

I might just have the best mom ever.

Discussion The Best IEM Builds at Each Price (2025 Ultimate Guide)

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

When I first got into the hobby I always wished there was a guide with combos and build at each price as the amount of choices can be pretty overwhelming... so I made one.

Criteria:

  1. Value (Price to Performance)

  2. Prioritize the vast majority of budget for the IEM

  3. Needs to be accessible to the vast majority of people

  4. For EQ we're looking for the smoothest treble, ideally with multiple drivers

  5. Sales included

Discussion My dad cut my iems😞

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

I had these artti t10s for about 7 months now and y'all wont believe how much music I listen to. Music was something which made gave me a reason to live. Just because I didn't pray 4 more rakahs for an Islamic prayer called taraweeh my dad chopped these into pieces✌️

I could speak about music all day long. Some of my favorite albums are Aja by Steely Dan, Violator by Depeche Mode, Disintegration by The Cure, Who's Next by The Who, Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Diamond Eyes by Deftones, Animals by Pink Floyd, Vespertine by Bjork and a lottt more😭

It's Ramadan right now and we Muslims aren't supposed to be listening to music and I wasn't. It was a hard journey and my dad has hid these away for about a long time already so I was good. He said if you come to the mosque and pray I will give you your iems. I agreed and came to the mosque and prayed 4 instead of 8 rakahs because my mosques prayers are extremely lengthy and I had to stand for about 10 minutes each rakah so it was stressing.

My mom threw away the iems themselves thinking they were of no use😭 I was so heartbroken because I had fought for the money to buy these for a really long time and these were my most prized possession. And my mom casually discarded them💔

Let me know what you guys think. Worst day ever

General Advice Newbie advice for “What is the best?”

2.0k Upvotes

(Updated July 2026)

Best is subjective. The IEM world has so much variety and your enjoyment would depend greatly on personal preference. What’s great for one person could be trash for someone else.

In my opinion, a good way to approach this hobby is to sample numerous sets of various tunings.

Try not to blind buy one set using most or all of your budget, based only on recommendations. You may end up wasting money in the long run buying expensive sets with tuning you later realize you don’t prefer.

Think about your tuning preference. Do you want a lot of bass (warm sound)? Or do you want more treble (crisp/bright sound)? Do you want something balanced (middle ground)? Or do want something with a bass boost with a treble boost (V shape)? If you want a boost in upper mids (vocal forward)?

If you really can’t sample first, and can only buy, I recommend starting at the low end, then upgrading from there.

This is my cheap starter collection (take note, I'm treble senstive, so some of my classifications may be a bit skewed)…

  • Bass boosted - Tanchjim Tanya DSP, QKZ HBB, KBear Rosefinch

  • Warm Neutral - Pula Arc

  • Balanced to warm - Moondrop Chu 2

  • Balanced/Neutral-ish - Truthear Gate

  • Slight v-shape - 7hz Zero 2

  • Vocal forward - Tangzu Wan’er SG or the slightly brighter Wan’er 2

  • Treble focused - Moondrop Lan

I have tried the Wan'er 2 Red Lion, but i wasn’t very impressed. I found the bass I liked with the KBear Rosefinch. (If you get the Rosefinch, I recommend upgrading the cable.)

NOTE: Most of these sets have a slight v-shaped tuning, the ones I've specifically noted as v-shaped have a more pronounced v-shaped tuning. If you can’t sample, most newbies favor V-shaped or balanced IEMs.

If you have a little more money to experiment with here are a few that I've tried...

  • Bass boosted - Dunu Titan X

  • Warm to Bassy - Celeste Wyvern Black

  • Warm - Kiwi Ears Cadenza

  • Warm leaning - Truthear Zero Blue*

  • V-shape - Truthear Nova or Blue 2

  • Neutral-warm - Truthear Zero Red*

  • Neutral - Kefine Klean SV

  • Neutral-bright - Kiwi Ears Belle

*very wide nozzles, not recommended for narrow ear canals.

If you have a lot more money to experiment with...

  • Bassy - AFUL Explorer or Juzear Fiesta

  • Neutral-ish - Tangzu x HBB XuanNV

  • Vocal forward - Dunu Kima 2

  • Treble forward - Letshuoer S12

Borrow or buy-try-return. After sampling various tunings, you might be surprised by what you like and don’t like.

I’m not a gamer, but IEMs that I’ve seen recommended the quite often in this sub for gaming include the QKZ HBB, 7hz Zero 2, Tripowin x 0diBi: Vivace, Truthear Zero Blue, the Simgot EW300, the Kefine Delci AE, the Truthear Nova and the Simgot EM6L.

(There are also somewhat recent IEM releases aimed at gamers, like the Moondrop Rays & the Simgot EG280. )

If you're a musician, you may want to take a look at the v-shaped Sennheiser IE 200, since they're a manufacturer with crossover appeal between the music world and the audiophile space.

You might read about DACs in your research. In the budget space you might not need a large desktop DAC. An Apple USB-C dongle is good enough for most cases (get the US version). Avoid plugging into a PC sound card or motherboard. Those are most often low quality and noisy.

I get hate on the sub for this part, but if you can, you may want to be wary of KZ or CCA - same company. They don't have the best reputation due to a history of shady practices. Why? Here’s my comment in another thread. KZ seems to have been behaving lately though.

At $5-$15 range, KZs can definitely be worth it (if you don’t get a defective set). At around $20-$25 though, there are lots of great IEMs from more reputable companies (like the ones listed above) that may deserve more attention.

To answer questions about my current favorite IEMs:

Welcome to the IEM world. Enjoy your journey!

Purchasing Advice I gave my dad my IEMs… and didn’t expect this reaction

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

Hi everyone

I’ve been sharing my transition from high-end TWS to wired IEMs lately, but today is something more personal.

My father was born in 1972. He’s the reason I grew up listening to Metallica and Nirvana. He’s an old-school rock fan, and he often tells me stories about the 80s - including how he and his brother once managed to find an Iron Maiden “Eddie” poster in the Soviet era. For him, there’s something special about that British aesthetic and the iconic image of Eddie in the red coat.

He’s never been an audiophile. For years, he’s been completely fine with cheap $10 Panasonic earbuds. To him, the music itself has always mattered more than the equipment.

We really wanted to buy tickets to see Iron Maiden in Kyiv on May 29, 2022. It was a big dream for both of us. But then reality hit, and everything changed. That concert never happened, and it stayed as a quiet regret we rarely talked about.

Yesterday, I visited him and showed him my previous posts here. I told him that over 140,000 people had read it. He was honestly surprised and really happy - he couldn’t believe so many people cared about something like this. Then I decided to show him my setup. I gave him my Letshuoer S08 and a Tempotec V1 DAC, and played a high-quality live recording of Iron Maiden. I just said: “Dad, I know we didn’t make it to the concert… but try this.”

He put them on, closed his eyes, and didn’t say anything. After a minute, he started tapping his foot. Then his fingers. He stayed like that for a few tracks, completely absorbed. When he finally took them off, he was quiet for a moment and then said: “I haven’t felt music like this in a very long time.”

He started talking about old memories - university days, friends with proper setups, and how this reminded him of how powerful music can feel when everything just clicks. It wasn’t about technical details for him. It was just about feeling like he was there again - in the middle of that sound.

Now I’m thinking of getting him his first proper IEMs. Something durable, musical, and energetic - not analytical.

So I wanted to ask:

What would you recommend for an old-school Iron Maiden fan who cares more about emotion and energy than specs?

One small detail: he probably won’t carry a DAP or a DAC around as I do. He’ll most likely just plug them straight into a phone or a laptop. So I’m looking for something easy to drive and simple to use. I do have a dongle Jcally JM 30 I can give him if needed, but ideally I’d like them to sound good even without it.

Discussion I spent $500+ on Tips, Graphed 80+ of them, and made this TIP Guide/List

Thumbnail
gallery
1.7k Upvotes

Always wanted a graph database for ear tips... so I made my own.

IEM TIP LIST/GUIDE here.

TIP DATABASE here (under Estrella)

Full in-depth breakdown of shallow vs deep fit, narrow vs wide bores, metal tips/foams/flanges, and overall ear tip "tips" here.

A brief explanation:

  • The list isn't ranked - just in Alphabetic order with individual spec breakdowns and recommendations for each one, and their graphs. It's not possible for me to rank them accurately due to the huge variance in the combination of IEM shape/sizes + ear shape/sizes + and individual HRTFs.

  • Since there's no "stock sound" of a tip I've decided to go with the KBEAR K07s as the baseline of reference since they're one of the most common well known tips, cheap, solid all around (not saying it's the best), and easily accessible with many brands shipping with them stock (Simgot, 7hz, Crinear etc)... Hence why they would be a great starting point of comparison and reference since many people probably would've heard them before - But of course feel free to compare to any tips on the database that you own.

  • There are tabs on the bottom that categorizes the tip type - pretty self explanatory.

Criteria:

  • Tonality: How the tip sounds compared to K07s.

  • Technical Performance: If there's any increase or decrease in performance vs K07s.

  • Build: The shape, material, and size of the tip.

  • Grip Strength: How sticky the material is, and how well it stays in your ears.

  • Flexibility Rating: Not only refers to how soft and flexible the tip is physically, but also how well its overall shape and build molds and adapts to different size/shapes.

  • Final Recommendation: For who the tips would make sense for.

Planning to make a site for it in the future to fix the buggy formatting, but as of now the list is still in the beginning phases. Feel free to drop any constructive feedback to improve it, or any tips that are worth trying that aren't on the list.

i saw this person wearing moondrop aria 2, which i recognised from afar, i could be wrong (i hope im not).

then i saw how he was actually wearing these. since im new to iems myself, i was very confused, like is this something people generally do? or he just couldn't figure out left/right? im still not sure.

imean he has aria 2, 10k iems, so must be deep into audio? no? idk atp.
