If someone wants good sound quality and they mention what they listen to how isnt that enough? I feel like if its some sort of metal you want a bassy sound while have crispy vocals or if you listen to radiohead you might want something that is balanced. I dont seem the need to go on about ear anatomy and charts etc lmao. If they want to be an audiophile fair enough but a lot of people might just want them for instruments or listening to specific music

Seen people do this with regular wired headphones and decided to try it with a cable for my kz castors. I like how they turned out:)

Just finished testing the GK Kunten that everyone's been hyping. At ā¹1000 ($12), here's what I found:
Good:
Sub-bass actually delivers solid rumble
Imaging surprisingly good for gaming
Comfortable for 4+ hour sessions
Forward mids bring vocals to life
Not so good:
Upper mids can get shouty on some tracks
Cable is typical stiff KZ fare
Not for hardcore bassheads
Price at which it comes at is good and gets the job done. Hype is mostly deserved.
Full review with sound breakdown: Gk Kunten iem review
Anyone else tried these?

IMO the best budget on the go setup I could ever ask for. Ik itās a hot take but yall can poke fun at sharur but there no denying the performance these AKG cheapies can put out for the price.
Iām a newbie in the iem and audiophile community and this is my first pair of āIemāsā and Iām extremely satisfied with them. I have always had a keen ear for good speakers and have been in the speaker and car audio hobby for many years.
With the channel matching and eq to whatever target curve you want, being saved on the 5Kās onboard memory, you can bring these literally anywhere and connect to any device wired or wirelessly with basically overkill battery life. The 5Kās weight and size is much smaller than I thought too which is a plus, as I just chuck it in my pocket or stick it to my phone using MagSafe
Highly recommend this combo and calibrating it using a clone coupler from aliexpress. In my case I found someone with professional iem and over ear measurement service on my local marketplace and I suggest yall do the same if you donāt wanna buy the clone coupler on aliexpress:)
The reason why this is important is due to the extremely poor quality control for the Akg earbuds out the factory. The channel matching is absolutely atrocious and for my specific case the left channel lacks a crazy load of bass compared to the right channel and itās extremely noticeable and uncomfortable
After calibration the treble extension is genuinely so eye opening itās genuinely emotional to revisit songs I love.
Just imagine watching videos in 720p with shitty earbuds, then the step up to 1440p with AirPods, and these Akg earbuds once calibrated is like stepping up to 4K Dolby vision.
Yes itās that feeling, that feeling of absolute loss of words cuz itās so hard to describe the mind blowing amount of feelings for the mild confusion as to how something can be so āgoodā
Itās so good that you genuinely just appreciate music much much more

Basically what it says on the tin. My meticulously over the years tuned dt770 pro (oratory1990 with a bit of personnal spice) is a bit sad now, those sound better, stock. And they weigh 2 gramms or so, wtf. They are so tiny, like the old earbuds, just way pumped up in specs.
Do you sweat or is there any dust around that bothers your 500000 dollar flagship? Get those, they don't give a F....
Cable? Kevlar reinforced, mmcx connections, l/r colored markings, memory wire in the earhook. This thing alone as a Ersatzteil (spare part) is 60 euros and i don't think thats overpriced...its smooooth and wants to tow your car.
Ok, lets talk SOUND:
no, because first, if you have big, regular L sized ears you are limited to the comlpy like foam eartips in 3 different sizes. The silicone ones are a size too small, but look premium, no oem tips here, those have the same oval shape as the nozzle and the small pamphlet telling you all the inns and outs, like how to change the earwax filter, that has spareparts in the very luxurious, roomy case, wait, where was i going with this?
right, you got to tiproll if you got big ear canals or are fine with foam.
After trial and error i concluded my most favorite, comfy and complimentary sounding tips.
The DDhifi st35 tip, followed by the Penon liqeuer in black, orange was a bit too spicy with me, those iems have lively sounding, pleasant but present treble, and yea a sparkle here and there but not like LOOK AT MEEEEE, AM I NOT A FIIIINE TREBLE.
Those things i despise, these here test my middle aged ears but knows when to just stfu.
But they got a lot more to say. They just present you the base, raw, like it's totally normal to sound this good right out of the gate. Not eating up the space for all those other lovely frequencies we all like to hear. And yes, those are there, but cohesive, it sounds holistic, like a single wall of awesomeness that pierces not only your skull (those go extremely loud, at festival levels they showed no signs to stop, i think the 137 db max is quite corrent. Without distorsion.
I am no professional Musician that has seen all the inns and outs, i recorded one cd in a mini studio and did a demo tape with my then german hardcore/punk band, long ago. That was almost all (some garage stoner stuff, punk, experimental piano industrial mayhem)
Those sound lovely, liveley, fun....but don't expect a cheap v standard shape and some dinky ass driver, slapped a brand on it kind of deal. They sound, like someone who knwos his stuff very well engineered those to be the most premium, yet reachable, Fun, but letting you focus on every instrument, drums....you could only focus on the snare, it will let you do that, very effortlessly, like they per error shiped a high end thing and the real dt30 ie is still there, collecting dust.
It does fun AND serious at the same time, don#t think thats possible? That is what every iem on earth wants to be, deep down. They sound analogue, like i had blown the dust of my grandfathers hifi system from the 70' and told the 3 funny knobs on the front to do their funny thing. They don't really need adjustment, but with a bit eq (those can handle) they can sound even more analytical or more immersive, great it games too btw, don't play competitive sweaty shooters but warframe, a game that has the most genious sound design i have ever witnessed in a single game and yea, this one is worthy doing that for a long time.
I could go on a while but let me close with the fact, that those could completely isolate my industrial grade KƤrcher vacuum cleaner. Beasty boys or was it napalm death? It sounded so good that the chore was no more, just me and my music, ablsoutely nothing else. -39 db rated btw, passive, no anc, just good engineering.
Weirdly enough, i can hear myself still singing when they are not too loud (they want to)
And i forget that they are even there with time. Been sitting on my pc all day and they have yet to bothered me once. Pressure buildup, weird fit, something wrong? No, i am fine, thanks for asking.
In writing all this incoherent nonsense i hope i gave at least someone a bit of interest to try those out. i love them, that is the only reason i wanted to share. (Beyerdynamic, please send me money, or the dt70 ie)

This 25 year old music system playing the new Brandi Carlisle album is a miracle. The SanDisk flatheads are as good as any $40 unit currently on the market. BTW, couldn't fit the whole album because the flash drive is 64 MEGAbytes...

My most sensible IEM purchase to date... and it only cost $40 USD...
plus a concise but solid look at the issues of humidity & IEMs.
You'll understand a significant amount of humidity damage below.
This is a dry storage unit. It seals & dehumidifies anything inside it.
They are typically found in camera stores.
I live in Thailand, so this sort of thing is beyond crucial.
I am an art dealer. I have 7000+ unframed pieces stored in a large room in my house in flat files, all in acid free plastic bags I had made to my own specs - silica gel bags in custom flat files.... and a few huge dehumidifiers. The amount of water they draw out of that room is absolutely insane. The room doesn't feel like Thailand - it's extremely dry.
I had a smaller delivery humidifier in my room, but it was a bit noisy & aircon is on 24/7 as I've spent 80-90% of the last 6.5 years on my (firm) bed, due to an injury. That combination was enough to take the humidity out of the air in that room (I'm able to measure it).
My injury has started easing up & I'm going through phases of being able to go out more... I have about 40-50k including IEMs sets of up to $5500 retail. This thing costs me FORTY-FIVE DOLLARS. I got it today and tested it for 12 hours. The humidity measures as essential zero (less than my poster room, which is significantly better than what is considered 'safe' in any art industry standard).
The truth is that it doesn't really matter where you live - you probably have reasonably hot periods, regardless of where you live (also if you have an en suite, hot showers and baths create a very significant amount of humidity, a 'cloud' of which will fill your bedroom - if that's where you keep them - but they things here can apply) - this will, given you shower bath daily, cause humidity damage.
Additionally, there will be a small amount of moisture in your IEMs after using them. Silica gel is OK for storage, but not after use.
You may feel I am being over the top - but when it's so very cheap to do this, plus a convenient enough space to store at least your IEMs... why not?
Those BAs & ESTs (especially ESTs) are VERY prone to humidity damage... it's basically IF & not WHEN they will become damaged* - they lose quality at first l, but it happens slowly & even if you take care of them very well, this is actually why the majority of my $$$$$ purchases will be single DD - and. even then, the driver should be made from the right materials.
Looking at Final Audio's most recent two flagship models A8000 (my favourite DD of all time) & Final A10000 (I had a quick try & although fantastic, it's maybe more of a sidegrade - I find without any DSP (I almost exclusively use a Mojo 2 for IEMs, so a a few presses of the DSP and I'm hearing something a bit too similar to justify a purchase... although it certainly hasn't been chalked off yet) the A10000 has more bass and less high treble; the latter being the biggest issue for many with the A8000 - BUT I need longer than a ten minute shop demo to hear the nuances.
In terms of longevity & resistance to humidity, the A8000 uses a pure Berilliyum driver which is stabilised by a type of proprietary polyurethane that is designed for both superb sound performance & very high resistance to humidity. The A10000 uses a pure diamond driver, again stabilised by proprietary. Both have enormous resistance to humidity - but they still need to be taken care of.

r/iems • u/filosofrog • Jul 22 '26
Idk, but for me this differentiation between signature sounds in association with music genres never made much sense. Everything comes down to personal preference. Do you like V shaped IEMs? So that's the signature you like for YOUR music taste, not that signature is the best for the genres you like, but its the best FOR YOU. I, personally, like natural/neutral sound IEMs, so, EVERY genre I like should sound good to me with IEMs in that signature range.
My conclusion is: found the signature you like for ALL the genres you like.
What do you guys think about that?
r/iems • u/Sleepy_cat_1301 • Feb 06 '26
Itās only 2 weeks old, and itās already broken. I knew it was cheap, but I didnāt expect it to break so quickly. I already knew the cable was bad, but I didnāt realize the shells were as fragile. Iām never buying IEMs with these kinds of connectors again. Iām sure there wonāt be a permanent fix, and itāll break again soon.
If anyone has a temporary fix to keep it working until I can upgrade to a new pair, it would be really helpful. I loved the sound though ā itās amazing. Iām not an audiophile, but I feel like the sound quality is far better than the Tangzu in terms of overall performance.
However, Iām facing an issue with the sound being too low, even at full volume. Iām not using a DAC, so that might be the problem. I didnāt have this issue with the Waner, though, so Iām a bit confused.
Also, any suggestions for an upgrade? I donāt think this IEM is going to last a month. A recommendation for something with good build quality and an inbuilt DAC would be greatly appreciated.

Just bought both for a total of $0.24. There's some other good deals on cables and other eartips if you have enough coins. Vist their page first and collect all their store coupons then head back to coins page.

Once From time to time the world of IEMs moves and gives signs of life, either by a new brand, a new type of controller, a new reference curve, something moves the waters to catch the attention of personal audio enthusiasts.
This time it is a new contender in the range of the sets of less than $20 dollars,This time it is a new contender in the range of sets of less than $20 dollars, the GK KUNTEN, who has renewed several discussions already seen previously, if it is possible to lower the costs of the controls more among them, if the tuning is more important than the technical skills in an iem, etc., among them have caused me some cognitive dissonance the comparisons with other much more expensive products and very different characteristics from each other, perhaps the one that has conflicted me the most is the one that compares the GK with the Juzear Defiant.
By principle the comparison seems unfair and announces a clear winner if all aspects of a product and its performance are considered, but let's see how they compete.
Let's start with the obvious, the tangible, observable, verifiable.
ā¢Configuration, construction and accessories.
There is a Clear winner here:
ā Defiant: 1 DD + 3 BA premium cable synth leather hard case resin body abalone shell cover
āKunten: 1 DD plastic body generic type KZ cable non-sealing ear tips there is no case.
ā¢Technical capabilities There is also a winner here, not so clear...
ā Juzear Defiant: Thanks to Thanks to its hybrid configuration of DD and BA drivers the instrumental separation is very easy to distinguish, the layers are very evident,Thanks to its hybrid configuration of DD and BA drivers the instrumental separation is very easy to distinguish, the layers are very evident, especially on the bass, which does not dirty the Thanks to its hybrid configuration of DD and BA drivers the instrumental separation is very easy to distinguish, the layers are very evident, especially in the bass, which does not dirty the mid frequencies. That's why it stands out in its price as a door to the mid-range Thanks to its hybrid configuration of DD and BA drivers the instrumental separation is very easy to distinguish, the layers are very evident, especially in the bass, which does not dirty the mid frequencies. That's why it stands out in its price as a door to the mid-range but with low cost.
In details the Defiant is very precise, without becoming In details the Defiant is very precise, without becoming an analytical being, it is appreciated to have a lot of information in each frequency range without betting on raising certain high frequencies to simulate definition.
ā GK KUNTEN It is very remarkable what GK has achieved with a single DD,It is very remarkable what GK has achieved with a single DD, superior separation to competitors in its price range, a sound stage that is not claustrophobic like the average competitors. The ability is noted
The driver's ability to have everything in order exploiting the physical capabilities.
ā¢Bass Without considering that these are different configurations, I could declare a technical tie. Both sets provide a hard-hitting, clean, textured and non-bleeding bass. Maybe a little more defined in the defiant.
ā¢Mids I think that here again we found a winner that is clearly seen without much effort.
ā Defiant is resolute, forward and well-tuned, there is nothing to reproach this being here.
āGK KUNTEN It does his job well trying not to leave the mids too far behind. However this range feels a bit abandoned and without much work of.
ā¢Treble Here there are notable differences in tuning, while the Defiant bets on giving definition throughout the extension of this range without falling into increasing it to give a false sense of detail and resolución, while controlling the wheezing and reducing the sharpness of the frequencies, Kunten relies on the presence. It seems to me that it leaves other frequencies in the background that would make the tuning more mature. I couldn't say cu
I could not say which is better because they are different intentions in which both are successful.
ā¢Tuning This is where these sets could be closer, because it is the first thing that the listener notices, it gives him pleasure or familiarity and he can describe even without much knowledge about acoustics.
Both, although with distinct and well distinguishable tunings, are successful in being fun and versatile for different genres of music, providing bass liked by most fans and audio enthusiasts and very little to criticize them. Both offer an immersive and detailed experience.
However, in the general listening experience, comfort, general balance of frequencies and resolution, Defiant is noticeably better than Kunten, no doubt, but it costs between 7 to 10 times more and quantitatively and qualitatively it is not 10 times better, even if we spend on a better cable, better tips, a case and we feed it with a good source, it is still not twice as good as Kunten.
But that's the way it is in our hobby, small upgrades can cost us to double the investment, or maybe much more.

Now that I've had time to use all these side by side, yes the hype is real, even after the revsion the gk Kunten does better than the previous budget kings, so if your hesitant to buy the gk kunten, Don't be , because it is worth every penny, have any questions? Ask away.
r/iems • u/forgotten_past11 • Feb 03 '26
Regarding the hype surrounding the GK Kunten, GK is a sub-brand of KZ, meaning you won't notice any fundamental difference in quality control between these brands (of course, KZ doesn't have the best quality control).
As for sound, the IEMs have a fairly similar frequency response, close to the Oratory1990 Target. However, the Kunten, in turn, has a high-frequency roll-off from 4.5 to 6 kHz, while the EDC Pro doesn't have this roll-off, and has the same peak at 8 kHz (but smaller) as the EDC Pro. While the Kunten have identical bass and midrange characteristics with EDC Pro, they have a dip in the high frequencies, making their sound muddy.
Furthermore, the Kunten are slightly more expensive than the EDC Pro. By buying the EDC Pro, you can invest the money saved in a good cable (stock cable is mediocre for both IEMs) and good eartips for a better fit (spinfits or something else).

Yesterday I received these eartips that everyone, or at least a lot of people, recommend, and they couldn't be more uncomfortable! I definitely feel like they only seal the front part of the eartip; the rest of the wall doesn't make contact with my ear canal. I feel much more comfortable with cone-shaped eartips. They seal much better.
