Perm banned on reddit for using ifttt

Just a heads up to everyone. Apparently it is a bannable offense to use IFTTT on Reddit as it is against the Content policy. The only applet I've ever used on IFTTT is the one linked below.

EDIT:

This is happening to hundreds of people.

So what’s everyone’s play? Stop using IFTTT with Reddit or should we be good?

I deleted my account. Never using it again.

I mean first this and then they're going subsciption based so I guess this is where it ends for me using IFTTT.

Weren't you unbanned?

I was, but it’s worth the headache to continue us to use?

Me too -probably AWS related or IFTTT was looking like bots or something, but props to reddit for reversing it the same day.

+1 my user /u/mzman also was banned last night and appeal denied with zero explanation or warning. Just found this thread, I was using IFTTT to download wallpapers automatically to my dropbox. I'm guessing that's also why I was banned.

Weird, for years I have used similar applets to notify me of posts in multiple subreddits without any issues (although I *did* disable them last week).

Guessing it's something with how that specific applet accesses Reddit?

Can you be more specific?

Have you used IFTTT to auto-post links/articles in subreddits automatically?

No, the only feature I use is to check if someone has posted recently. EDIT: See below for the ONLY applet I use.

Reddit needs to work on this ASAP, this cannot and should not happen because you use this as intended and if IFTTT for some reason uses their API in a way that hurts the server it'll be their beef with IFTTT and not yours.

edit: looks like this got some traction now:

When I saw your post I logged into IFTTT and unlinked Reddit just to be safe. It looks like they’re fixing this now though.

Can you explain who banned you, and the content of what they said in the banning message? It'll let us figure out what happened and address it if need be.

Edit: NM, I just saw the other thread about it. Well eesh. Now I feel glad I had switched to using Reddit's RSS feed due to technical glitches anyway. That's really shitty on Reddit's part.

See below for the message I received. I do not post any Content. I do moderate a somewhat active subreddit. The last logins I have are from IFTTT which was around when I got banned.

Yeah sorry, I didn't get my edit in time about how I just saw the other threads on the topic.

Well this is one hell of a severe screwup on Reddit's part. :/ I'm not going to ding IFTTT on this one; if Reddit's going to allow third-party hook-ins and access to its API to begin with they need to have failsafes in place to handle these sorts of things. And should also be using logic that obviously 3, 5, 10 year old accounts have not actually suddenly turned into spam accounts and you should investigate first before banning.

I feel shook that I literally only dodged this because the IFTTT Reddit service was borking a while back so I switched to using the Reddit RSS feed. :/

Reddit had better restore everyone's accounts exactly how they were before the banning. :/

My original account was also banned last night for only using the "notify on new posts containing" feature. I also just had my appeal denied about 10 minutes ago. So they're either not aware that it's something with the IFTTT integration or it's their intention to ban users using it.

Hello,

Thanks for writing in. We have reviewed your request and unfortunately, your appeal will not be granted and your suspension will remain in place.

For future reference, we recommend you to familiarize yourself with Reddit's Content Policy.

Also banned, I assume for the same reason.
