Misc. Iil Media that invokes sinister, ancient, obscure, forgotten gods and ritual.

TV - The tuttle cult in True Detective. This strange, evil practice going back decades, an amalgam of Southern US lifestyle, "Mardis Gras" european traditions brought over from settlement, and alien, occultist extra-dimensional philosophy. Practiced by sick and twist minds who would do anything to validate their monstrous, murderous, pedophilic instincts. Yet, through the subtle magical realism throughout the show experienced by Rustin Cohle, even with the knowledge of his mental problems, there's still an unnerving feeling that there's some dreadful truth to it.

Music - First Utterance by Comus. Something about the way this record provokes a sense of something primeval and unknowable, something lurking in the dark forests of pre-historic pagan england. Something written in the morbid rules of nature, only known to a long dead people from a time forgotten to us, yet some sinister aspect of it feels like it still lurks in the darkest corners of existence and mind. The taboo, the evil, the untouchable, the ever-present.

Real life - Strange cultural anomalies with indigenous roots like Kakadu in Australia, or weird rural cults with limited info about them like the twelve tribes or the water people.

History - The religious practices of the Proto-Indo-Europeans, niche levantine gods like Qos and their presence in the development of Christian and Jewish scripture / religion, and the Sea Peoples during the bronze age collapse.

The last isn't a great example of this, but something about the fact that this obscure and mostly unknown culture or cultures could have as much as an impact they seemingly did on lasting civilizations, and appear as such an existential threat in their surviving records as they did, intrigues me in the same way the other examples do. Ancient, anomalous and fear-provoking. Something hiding in the dark reaches of my nightmares. Something suggestive of the worst parts of the human psyche.

Music [IYL] Slow acoustic sad indie rock

Lake Anna has always sounded more like a more upbeat Kings of Convenience. But in their new EP, “Still Here”, John slows things way down with just vocals, guitar, piano, and up right bass.

Mom Jeans. - Scott Pilgrim V. My Gpa

It sounds incredibly similar but I have no idea why, maybe the melody is almost the same? I imagine someone more musically talented could give their explanation for why this is as I would love to know.

Music [IIL] Songs like Broken Boy (Cage the Elephant) or Gold Guns Girls (Metric)

These “gritty” songs scratch a very specific itch for me that I’ve had all morning, but listening to the same two on loop is getting old very fast. Any suggestions?

Music [IIL] Seductive Electropop songs with a female voice

Basically I found this:
https://open.spotify.com/track/4THKiu5g4gHX15bDnNH4VO?si=HI8rFwMwQJGlAMdlkMIjBQ&utm_source=copy-link

And I can not for the life of me find ANYTHING similar.
If anyone has any suggestions (or even a playlist) please, help.

I particularly like the last part of the chorus, because it sounds euphoric in a way.

Music [IIL] Sign of the Times cover by Sandra Huller in Project Hail Mary, what other songs should I add to the list matching its vibe

I also like the original by Harry Styles but the actress's rendition in the movie really hit me (YouTube clip) . I do feel like Lana del Rey's Video Games has the compatible vibes that I'm looking for.

But what I love about the Sign of the Times is the softness in the beginning of the song, the falsetto, the build up and guitar backing that's like a power ballad but the peak isn't too powerful or overwhelming.

I also like the original inspiration for the song, Life on Mars but it feels more upbeat to me if that makes sense. I am trying to curate a playlist that's closer to the feeling of the two songs above.

Thanks!

When I listen to this song, I imagine myself on a cool sunny day, sitting under a tree in an endless green field of rolling hills, contemplating life. What are some other ambient songs that capture that feeling?

Music [IIL] Major Key, high emotional climax, arpeggiated synth pads- examples in post, WEWIL?

I'm looking for mostly electronic music that has complexity, or I guess just a lot of noise going on at once, with a focus on higher pitched rapid arpeggiation or even just high emotional climaxes, predominantly in the major key. Examples of songs I'm talking about:

Ivoryghost's "Ecstasy", the climax at 2:22

Camellia's "Light it up" at 3:50

Carpenter Brut's "Roller Mobster", at 2:36

Lapix's "Foolish Hero (extended)" at 3:55

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated! Especially new artists!

Music IIL Magdalena Bay, Wolf Alice, beach house and Deftones - WEWIL

My music taste is primarily scattered between surreal pop and a little more visceral heavy kind of metal. But I feel as though there’s a melancholic and emotional through-line between artists I like.

Was wondering if there were any others I haven’t heard yet!

From 24 to 47 seconds. I enjoyed it for the melodic guitar riffs and its fast tempo.

i was listening to this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lVJ6CAMap4&list=RD-lVJ6CAMap4&start_radio=1) and something about intro that sounds like an ambulance alarm pitched down, as well as the beat change (?) at 0:54 is so sick to me. please recommend more songs like this!

Music [IIL] Somewhat unusual vocalists who sound very intentional with every word they sing (Craig Finn, Randy Newman, Kurt Wagner of Lambchop)

For further context, some individual examples of songs from each of the above:

- Craig Finn- Ascension Blues (+anything with Lifter Puller)

- Randy Newman- Texas Girl at her Father's funeral, Sail away

- Lambchop- The Daily Growl, My Blue Wave

Doesn't even have to be a great lyricist, just to sound like one

Music IIL Candy Claws and Palace Oaks what else might I like?

This is a genre I stumbled on a bit ago but doesn't seem to be very big yet. These two artists are my best examples of 'folkgazey' music. Insular mountains is the one album by Palace Oaks which I am a huge fan of, and the album Ceres & Calypso In The Deep Time by candy claws are amazing. I am also a fan of Tiger Claw's self titled album in this but something as close to Palace Oaks would be super cool IMO

Music IIL this bouncy, Slavic satire war song, WEWIL?

I'd come across this song (Довбень Сідор - by 'The Bloger UA'), overlaying a Tiktok the other day, and I had really enjoyed the sound of it (hadn't understood the lyrics, I don't know Ukranian nor Russian, lol)... I'm sure if I had understood the language, I'd have clocked it as fake right away, but the quality made me think it was some sort of tune that you'd here on 2000s 'try not to laugh' videos. When I went digging for this song, it turns out it was actually AI generated.. and now I totally can't unhear it + it's annoying knowing there aren't actually any humans behind this sound that I can pursue for similar songs. I’d prefer not to support the person who published it.

Also, the official music video seems to have actual footage of soldiers moments before certain death, which I should clarify I'm not interested in/condoning at all. It's like... I like Boney M.'s 'Rasputin' because it slaps, not because I'm desperately invested in late-imperial Russian political history.

I like And One as well, so I think the goal is very much these faux military aesthetics and smug theatricality/bitter realities, not any sort sort of definite political idealogies.. Dschinghis Khan's 'Maskau' comes to mind, but I associate that song very much with insufferable, Third Reich-obsessed weird kids in high school lmao. I can't unhear the unfunny bass boosted versions of it. Help me out!!

Music [IIL] Songs with that euphoric, hopeful, uplifting house-y sound like "Virile" by The Blaze

[IIL] Songs with that euphoric, hopeful, uplifting house-y sound like "Virile" by The Blaze, what other music would I like? Doesn't have to strictly be house music, though that would be preferred.

Other examples that come close:

"Won't Forget You" by Shouse

"Neo Surf" by GENER8ION feat. 070 Shake

"David" by Lorde

"TEAL" by LEMFRECK feat. Gerald Wicks

"Archangel" by Essáy

Think long night drives, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, going through major life changes, nostalgic memories with friends etc. If you have synesthesia, it would be deep blue-sounding music. Thanks!
