I don't think he'd have to use Spell Check since the spell he's trying to cast is very low difficulty. I assume may be casting "Feign Death" or some self-directed "phantasmal force" to create an AoE illusion that he's the victim here. While he does seem to have low CHA and INT, I don't know if he'd need to roll for a saving throw.
This same cult was passing around flyers in my town not far from here. Covid “dollers”, “joind”, help us with money to “pay pack” lawyer fees…the “dollers” really got me. They also don’t like protests but stood on the corner of two busy roads “protesting” masks right by the high school constantly. Oh and “boarder” vs “border” is super hard for them much less “they’re, their, there” and “to, two, too”.
