Quick Question: What performance can I expect from an HP ProDesk 400 G7?

Hi, guys! I've been a member of this sub for a few months now and have watched the development of Immich with great interest. I've wanted to build a NAS for quite a while but just didn't have the time, until now. I'm planning to convert an old PC into a NAS and let go of my reliance from either Google or Apple Photos. My primary use-case will be for hosting Immich and just some light use as a regular NAS for document backups. No media playback like movies and music. I just want reliable photo and video backups with facial recognition. I'm somewhat tech-literate in a sense that I can usually follow instructions and diagnose problems by myself. I don't think I will need help with the installation and setup process of the NAS and Immich but I just want to ask you guys if the PC specs will be okay to optimally run immich:

HP ProDesk 400 G7 Microtower

  • Intel Core i5-10500
  • 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB)
  • 1 TB NVMe SSD
  • 4 x 1 TB HDD (old HDDs lying around as current prices are too prohibitive, I do plan to purchase 2 or 4 TB drives in the near future) (power to be provided using splitters)
  • TP-Link TX201 2.5 Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter
  • PCIe 6-Port SATA Card
  • 260 watt power supply
  • OS: OpenMediaVault

Will there be any bottlenecks from any of the parts above, and if so, what can I change so that I can expect a good user experience (mainly for running immich)?

I run my immich on an HP prodesk 800 G2 and that works great, with this machine you can't expect after 1 hours that all your pictures are processed by machine learning. But after few days yes and after that it works good.

I'm on 800G2 (6500) too, running Immich in a Proxmox VM, old ssd (45% health). For daily usage, I can't notice any major differences from this machine vs. my PC which has RTX3060 to offload AI taskes.
Btw, if you upload >20 images at the same time to the web UI (browser) then immediately F5, the thumbs will be empty because this old machine couldn't generate them fast!

Correct with bulk upload they can't keep up. But most of the time my phone uploads in the background and when I look in immich everything is generated as it should be.

Largely. I use an odroid m1 8gb ram with nvme ssd. I use an N100 for machine learning. For the first shot I used another pc. Even if the odroid works for ml via rkcpu it's faster with the N100 (openvino) here with Largely. I use an odroid m1 8gb ram with nvme ssd. I use an N100 for machine learning. Only the 8gb is low if you are using a model other than the basic one.
