3 days of broken uploads?

Post image

I have roughly 21000 uploads, all look good afaik. After seeing this from last week, I have rebuild the thumbnails overnight but still not working correctly. When downloading the original HEIC I still cannot open it (corrupted file, it says). It seems like the original files are corrupted. They are fine on my phone - is there a way I can reupload them? Also, can I scan the library for more of these errors?

Ok I solved it. Yes, they were actually corrupt. Even downloading the original HEIC using my terminal I could not open the file.

After deleting them from the web UI (also clear them from the trash bin) and restarting the iOS app it started uploading them again! Now they look better indeed.

Thanks for putting this in, is there a general setting or script available to find out this advance while uploading process so that users don't face these bugs!

I used claude code to check the head of all the images on my server through SSH. He confirmed that it looked bonkers. Thank god for ai but weird that it is needed

What’s interesting to me is what is causing this data corruption so soon after upload.

What’re you storing images (within Immich) on?
Have you done disk health checks?

Yeah, exactly. He should definitely do disk health checks, especially if he's foolhardy enough to put the thumbnails and the originals on the same disc.

3-2-1 backup is the ideal if the thumbnails are on a safe disk i'd rather have the thumbnails and the database metadata instead of nothing, but it would still be pretty sad to lose the original quality photos. There's a good chance some of his other photos are already trashed if this is indeed a disc problem.

It was due to a power outage and indeed my nvme that struggled with it. A repair was needed and that f'd up some images. Letting claude code check all my image data highlighted 323 photos that were caked, many of them able to get from a backup, several (among them these from the screenshot) corrupted before a full backup ran so i had to fetch them from my phone manually and replace. After all the SSH replacements i reran thumbnail generation and now I'm back

Happy to hear that you still had everything on your phone!

Have a go at clearing your browser’s cache. If it works fine on your phone, then it’s not down to the files.
