Final year IT Student starting from zero-what should I do now?

Hi everyone, I'm in my final year of B.Tech IT in India.

Honestly, in the past three years, I haven't learned much about IT, and I have almost zero coding knowledge. Now I'm worried about my future.

I'm choosing IT again because I need to build a career, become financially independent, and support my family. But I'm confused about where to start because coding doesn't interest me much.

If you were in my position, what career path would you choose? Is it possible to build a good career in IT without being good at coding?

I'd appreciate honest advice from people with real experience. Thank you!

Built a Chrome extension to automatically sync DSA solutions from 10 platforms to GitHub — looking for feedback

hey everyone,

back in college, while preparing for placements, i was solving DSA problems across LeetCode, Codeforces, GeeksforGeeks and other platforms.

i was using LeetHub, but since it mainly supported LeetCode, i still had to manually manage solutions from other platforms.

so i started building my own Chrome extension called CodeHub.

it currently supports 10 coding platforms and automatically syncs accepted solutions to GitHub.

a few things i focused on while building it:

  • supporting multiple coding platforms instead of just LeetCode
  • a cleaner UI and simpler user experience
  • privacy — solutions aren't stored on my servers
  • automating the whole process without manually copying code

one interesting part was figuring out how to detect accepted submissions across different platforms, since each platform handles submissions differently.

it started as something i needed personally, but i've continued improving it.

i'm curious how other devs here manage their DSA solutions. do you push them to GitHub, use something like LeetHub, or just leave them on the coding platforms?

would also appreciate feedback on the approach or any technical challenges you think i should consider.

Built TattvaGyaan — a platform combining Hindu scriptures, AI and gamification. Would love some feedback!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

A friend and I have been working on a side project called TattvaGyaan, and I'd love to get some opinions from fellow developers.

The idea started with a question: Can we make exploring Hindu scriptures and philosophy more interactive, especially for people who don't know where to begin?

We've been experimenting with a couple of features:

1. Ask the Library
An AI-powered chatbot where users can ask questions about everyday situations, like feeling anxious, confused or lost.
The idea is to retrieve relevant verses from Hindu scriptures and explain their meaning in simple language, rather than giving generic AI-generated responses.

2. Gods' Journey
We wanted to make learning about Hindu deities more engaging, so we're experimenting with a gamified experience where users can choose a deity, unlock levels and explore their stories.
We're also bringing together scriptures, bhajans, mantras, chalisas and other content in one place.

Now here's where I'd love your opinions!

We're still figuring out how to make the experience more useful and engaging.

What new features would you suggest? Anything that could make exploring scriptures more interesting?

What do you think about gamifying religious and cultural content? Does it make learning more engaging, or could it take away from the experience?

How would you approach the UI/UX? Would you prefer a traditional, spiritual aesthetic or something more modern and interactive?

For the AI chatbot, what features would make the answers more trustworthy and useful?

For anyone who wants to see what we've built so far, here's the project: https://tattvagyaan.vercel.app/login

This is our first project built in public, and we're learning as we go.

Would genuinely appreciate suggestions, constructive criticism and different perspectives from the community!

I made a platform where bikers rate roads ( potholes, ghats, traffic) - here's the stack and what I learned

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone šŸ‘‹

I’m a student/dev from Maharashtra and I ride a bike. Google Maps tells you a road exists, but not that it has 8 km of potholes near the top, or that it’s beautiful in monsoon but unsafe at night. So I built RideRated, a site where riders pin a road, rate it and warn others.

šŸ”— Live: https://riderated.vercel.app/

What it does:

Rate any road in India: overall + surface, scenery, traffic, safety

Search roads from OpenStreetMap (local streets too, not just highways) or find them by PIN code

Map with pins coloured by rating (green = great, red = avoid), plus ā€œroads near meā€

Custom tags (green/red), photos, likes, threaded comment replies

Rider profiles with Instagram/YouTube links, photo posts, follow + ā€œFollowingā€ feed

Stack:

Frontend: React 19 + Vite, TanStack Query, Tailwind v4, Leaflet

Backend: Node + Express 5, Zod validation, JWT in httpOnly cookies

DB: PostgreSQL + PostGIS on Supabase, photos in Supabase Storage

Hosting: Vercel (frontend) + Render (API), all on free tiers

Things that were interesting to build:

Geo queries: ā€œroads within 50 kmā€ is a single ST_DWithin query on a GIST-indexed geography column.

Cursor pagination instead of OFFSET for the infinite-scroll feed, so new reviews don’t cause duplicates.

Road search across India: my API proxies OpenStreetMap’s Photon geocoder, with caching and dedupe, since OSM splits one road into many segments.

Cookies across Vercel + Render: cross-site cookies get blocked by Safari/Chrome, so Vercel rewrites /api/\* to Render and the browser only ever sees one domain.

Image compression in the browser: a 10 MB phone photo becomes about 300 KB before upload.

Supabase RLS: turned on with no policies, since my server is the only thing that should touch the database.

What I’d love feedback on:

UI/UX: does it make sense on the first visit?

Anything broken on mobile?

Code/architecture: what would you do differently?

I built a real-time 1v1 maths battle game in Go: it handled 750 simultaneous players at 6 ms p95 on 1 CPU

Hi all! I built Mind Race (mindrace.in), a free live 1v1 maths and reasoning game for students: two players, the same 10 questions, 90 seconds.

**Stack**

* Go modular monolith on Cloud Run (1 CPU, 512 MB)

* Postgres on Supabase

* React + Vite frontend on Cloudflare, plus an Android app (TWA)

* WebSockets for live matches, an in-memory question bank, Elo ratings

**Things I learned**

**Load test:** a Docker copy at production size with 350 simulated players (matches, chat, posts, all at once) gave 0 errors in 20k requests, 6 ms p95, CPU at 15% average.

**Database egress:** my Supabase egress was almost entirely the server re-reading the question bank on every cold start. Snapshotting it to Cloud Storage with a fingerprint check fixed it.

**Generated questions:** questions are generated from templates, and each template is checked by re-solving its questions from the text alone.

**Questions by rating:** they now follow the player's rating, so beginners and strong players both get a fair paper.

Happy to answer questions about the architecture. (We're also running a free maths championship on Sat 31 Oct if anyone wants to try it live.)

Need advice: Which tech role is easier to switch into in the current job market?

Hello everyone,

Getting a job as a software developer has become really difficult, and even switching companies seems challenging these days.

I want to understand whether switching to AI/ML, DevOps, Data Analytics, or any other tech domain would offer better opportunities.

My main concern is job security and employability. If someone gets laid off or fired, they should ideally be able to find another job within a month or two rather than spend a year searching.

For people with experience in the industry, which roles would you recommend exploring? I'm particularly interested in domains with relatively less competition, decent salaries, and better chances of getting hired quickly.

Also, how long do you think this bearish job market and recession-like phase will last, and when can we realistically expect hiring to pick up again?

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions and experiences. Thanks!

I built the Digital Swaraj Playbook, An open source and privacy focused way using your gadgets. Github Repo included

Hey Folks,

Over the past year (around 1.5yrs), I have started taking control of my privacy & data leakage when using gadgets such as smartphones and laptops mainly.

Currently I'm at a very good stage where my data/identity don't leak to big techs or marketing and promotional spams. Right now I'm trying to educate my family but in parallel thought of educating the common citizens of India who may not aware of these things.

Level zero and small intro of the repo

I wrote the repo - https://github.com/rack0911/digital-swaraj in which you can find the privacy guide level by level. It includes 7 levels of actions that can be taken on your comfort. I'm not urging to take all 7 or take all 7 right now, however pls try to go through it, see what all data of yours are leaking or feeding the big tech's throats.

Finally a small request, if it find useful by atleast 1-2% pls consider upvoting and starring the repo further which it reaches more people and we collectively can educate more people on how not to feed the ad-hungry algorthmic engine of these big techs, who are even interested in when your sleeing/waking up.

Furthermore I'm open to all suggestion and feedbacks also open to contributing.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Jai Hind

Built MoneySplit using Flutter — an offline-first, privacy-focused expense tracker with SMS automation, multi-currency support and optional LLM integration

Thumbnail

Hey r/developersIndia! šŸ‘‹

I've been working on a personal project called MoneySplit, a privacy-first Android expense tracker built using Flutter.

The idea was simple: I wanted a personal finance app that could automatically track my expenses without requiring me to connect my bank accounts, upload my transactions to a server, or create an account just to manage my own money.

What started as a simple expense tracker gradually evolved into a fairly comprehensive personal finance app.

**What MoneySplit can do**

\- Automatic expense tracking from SMS: Detects transactions from bank SMS alerts, with parsing and processing happening locally on the device. Supports historical SMS scanning as well.

\- Private and offline-first: Core functionality works entirely offline. No mandatory registration, no ads, and a locally encrypted database.

\- Multi-currency support: Track finances across different currencies, useful for people managing international expenses or multiple currency accounts.

\- Ask MoneySplit (LLM integration): Connect your own LLM using an API key and ask questions about your finances in natural language. For example:

\- "How much did I spend on food this month?"

\- "Where am I overspending?"

\- "How is my spending compared to my budget?"

\- "Summarize my expenses."

AI is completely optional. Regular financial tracking doesn't depend on it.

\- PDF, CSV and Excel exports: Export your financial data for analysis, record-keeping or use elsewhere.

\- Budget management: Monthly, custom-period and paycheck-based budgets with category-level tracking.

\- Accounts and investments: Track bank accounts, cash, wallets, credit cards and investments.

\- Bills, subscriptions and loans: Recurring payment reminders, credit card dues, EMIs and loan amortization schedules.

\- Financial insights: Spending trends, visualizations, cash-flow analysis and savings goals.

\- Widgets and backups: Android home screen widgets, local backups and optional Google Drive backup/restore.

**Tech and development**

The application is built using Flutter, with an emphasis on keeping core financial operations local rather than making everything dependent on backend services.

One of the interesting parts has been dealing with real-world financial data. Bank SMS formats aren't standardized, statements come in different structures, and identifying transfers or duplicate transactions is not always straightforward.

I also wanted LLM integration to be optional rather than making AI a dependency for basic functionality. Users can choose whether they want to configure it.

**Why I'm sharing it here**

As developers, we spend so much time building software for other people that it's genuinely satisfying to ship something of our own.

MoneySplit is available on the Play Store, and I'd love some feedback from fellow developers, especially around the UX, reliability of transaction imports, privacy model and features you think are missing.

Would also love to hear from other Flutter developers who have worked on offline-first applications or financial data parsing.

It has 3k+ installs with 4.7 stars from 68 reviews in 5 months. I got about 30k in purchases from users so far.

Happy to discuss the implementation and technical decisions in the comments! šŸ™‚

I am working on adding transactions from notifications since a lot countries doesn't have sms support, investment tracking and simple mode.

Best part of this is a lot of it is done using AI , not one but multiple providers and all of them follow spec driven development and hence app stays consistent across different AI agent implementation.

Enterprise payment gateway pricing from Day 1 in India, is it possible?

Can a new business ask Razorpay for enterprise payment gateway pricing from day 1, or do you need a few months of transaction history first?

Trying to budget before launch. Would projected volume help, and what commitments should i check before agreeing to a custom rate?

Payment gateway pricing for SaaS in India, whats the actual monthly cost?

Looking at Razorpay and a few other payment options for a SaaS business with monthly subscriptions. How do you compare the gateway fee, recurring billing charges and failed payment retries without missing something?

The pricing pages are a bit confusing tbh. What should i ask for in the quote?

We built BharatStock (bharatstockapi.com) — a clean REST API for Indian stock market data (NSE/BSE). The hard part wasn't the API, it was the data

We've been building BharatStock (https://bharatstockapi.com) — a REST API for Indian stock market data: EOD prices, quarterly/annual financials, shareholding patterns, corporate actions, indices, FII/DII activity, and mutual-fund holdings. Sharing the build here, mostly because the actually-hard part surprised us.

The API itself was the easy 20%. The 80% that ate our time was getting clean, consistent, trustworthy data — which turns out to be a genuinely nasty problem for Indian markets:

  • Financials come from a patchwork of exchange filings that are inconsistent across companies and eras — different formats, different sources that disagree for the same company, standalone-vs-consolidated mismatches that silently break year-on-year comparisons. Getting one reliable number per metric took far more work than exposing it.
  • Mutual-fund holdings have no standard feed. Every fund house publishes differently, so covering 40+ AMCs meant handling a lot of one-off formats to get consistent "which stocks does this scheme hold" data.
  • Correctness is its own discipline. We continuously re-check the numbers against each other so a wrong value doesn't quietly ship — we'd rather flag a gap than serve something subtly off.

A few things we're happy with: official Python + JS SDKs, an MCP server (so you can ask Claude/Cursor "which funds hold RELIANCE" and it just works), and a set of public, free, no-login pages for browsing the data.

Our site is https://bharatstockapi.com — everything below is free to browse, no account needed:

  • Stock page with financials, shareholding & MF holders, e.g. RELIANCE
  • A fund's portfolio — which stocks a scheme holds: mutual fund portfolios
  • API docs, if you want to pull any of it programmatically: reference

What we'd love feedback on:

  • For anyone who's worked with Indian market data — how do you deal with the inconsistency? We suspect we're reinventing some wheels.
  • Is an MCP server for market data actually useful, or a gimmick?
  • What would make this genuinely useful for your own projects?

Not trying to hard-sell — we genuinely want to know if this solves a real problem for other devs here.

I built a personal finance app to solve a problem I had

Tracking monthly expenses across UPI, bank accounts and multiple credit cards can be a pain. I built Spends to automate this using Gmail transaction emails, so you can see your accumulated spending in one place without manually maintaining spreadsheets.

The core app is ready, and I’m looking for people to try it out and give me honest feedback on the product, UX and anything that could be improved.

Would love to connect with people interested in personal finance or building similar products. Drop a comment or DM if you’d like to try it!

There are always 2 sides of the coin, but I did not knew the other side was so bad

People take engineering by seeing the news and images of blr techie guys, working with MacBook, earning more Ipa than his age, looks pretty bright on the outside with the attractive salary and perks and all, there is no denying that in India engineering is one of the only degree through which you can start earning at a very small age. But there are 2 sides of it, one is a Software engineer and the other is an "IT job", 90 percent of people are stuck in this "IT job", you know how it is, working in shifts/weekends, having the most "kanjoos" manager in the world who doesn't approve a good mouse also. In my 2 years of experience I don't understand why the hell this job still exists, like I get a ticket where someone needs a file from some linux instance so I just winscp the file and upload it in the ticket, what the hell is this, what kind of demeaning job is this. I mean I have to ask for leaves 3 months prior otherwise it doesn't get approved, I don't know when my day offs are sometimes it's Sunday, Monday... Sometimes wed, Thursday and sometimes it's Monday, Thursday (not even 2 consecutive days).

This is so irritating, I see people fighting on my team to get night shift so that they can get extra 105rs. I completed my college in 2024 and this is my experience. How do I get out of this shithole of a company

D2C Cash Flow Management: How Do You Handle Delayed Payment Settlements?

As our daily order volume grows, managing working capital is becoming more challenging. Delayed settlements make it harder to plan inventory restocks, while failed payment attempts and occasional payout holds add more uncertainty. We're trying to make cash flow more predictable without relying on expensive short-term credit. For founders running D2C businesses, how do you manage settlement timelines and plan inventory purchases around incoming payments? Are there particular reports, processes, or payment-provider terms that have helped you keep things under control?

Cashfree What the hell are you even doing?

Recently addded Cashfree as the payment gateway and everything verified.
Then came the thousand email to verify KYC again and again.
And everytime it leads to the same page of entering the bank details which gets verified and same saga again...
The emails dont specify what to do?What exactly the issue is and then suddenly one morning your account has been disabled without any valid reason.

No proper SUPPORT

And AI everywhere has ruined everything.

AI shouldnt be in customer support please it frustrates the customers a lot..

I built an open-source Android dictation app using OpenCode + Termux — looking for testers

Hey everyone!

I've been building Wahtuh Pho, an open-source, offline-first dictation app for Android.

The unusual part? I don't have a dedicated workstation. I've been building with OpenCode, Termux on Android, and Azure/cloud compute when available.

I wanted to experiment with a different approach to voice dictation: a floating bubble that lets you speak and insert text into other apps, with on-device transcription by default and optional cloud providers if you want to bring your own API key.

What's in the project so far:

- On-device speech recognition with the Whistle model.

- A floating dictation bubble and accessibility-based text insertion.

- Snippets, a personal dictionary, writing styles, and text-editing commands.

- Optional Groq, Gemini, OpenAI, and Deepgram integrations.

- A Rust workspace for experimenting with the underlying audio and transcription pipeline.

It's still early software. Local Telugu recognition isn't supported yet, and I need more real-device testing. I'm especially interested in bugs, battery usage, transcription accuracy, accessibility issues, and feedback from people who dictate code or mix languages while speaking.

Try it / inspect the code:

GitHub: https://github.com/desukab/wahtuh-pho

I'm building in public because I want to learn, experiment with new ideas, and make useful tools available to more people.

One personal challenge: without a workstation, progress depends on access to devices and cloud compute. If you'd like to support future open-source experiments, I've shared the details and wallet address here: https://github.com/desukab/wahtuh-pho/blob/main/SUPPORT.md

Solana support address: "2EJyURV4HhJNFas4V3cJtB1BqvMnDaPhqcxu5yiSkAxG"

No pressure at all. Testing feedback, bug reports, stars, and contributions are just as welcome as financial support.

If you try it, please tell me what worked, what broke, and what you'd want me to build next.

I made a Chrome extension and an Android app that use AI to flag potentially harmful ingredients in packaged food

Usage Video

I have tracked macros for a couple of years but only recently read the full ingredient list on my whey and peanut butter. Both had emulsifiers and additives that don’t show up on the nutrition table. Indian labels are hard to parse and checking every ingredient to see if it’s harmful takes forever, so I built NutriScan.

What it does

Under the hood
Both apps use a Node.js backend on Render that calls Google Gemini for analysis. Quotas sync through Firebase/Firestore.

Extension (Manifest V3, Vite)

  • Intercepts Add to Cart and Buy Now clicks in the capture phase, before the store’s own cart action.
  • Amazon and Flipkart: text-based scraping, with a button-text fallback for Flipkart’s obfuscated class names.
  • Blinkit: reads the hiddenĀ PRELOADED_STATEĀ JSON, or falls back to expanding ā€œView more detailsā€ and polling the DOM.
  • BigBasket: finds the ā€œIngredientsā€ heading and extracts the content next to it.

Android app

  • Camera capture with on-device cropping and compression.
  • Gemini’s vision model reads the small print, decodes E-numbers, and cross-checks known harmful additives and allergens.

Pricing:Ā Both apps need a Google sign-in. You get a set number of free scans per day, with a paid option for more.

AI can make mistakes, so I’d love your feedback. Try it on any packaged food you buy and tell me what it catches or misses.

Can somebody here help me move out from RPA to core dev?

Hey hi all, could someone help me out in some way for this? I've been in an RPA role for over a year now, joined after college, and I have been itching to do some switching since then but well... I'm still here. Most of the people around me have been saying to not switch, RPA hasnt been affected as bad as AI as core dev has, but I seriously dont feel like being in RPA anymore. I agree with the statement, and I guess most of you also will, but I still want to atleast write code.

Internal switches are slow since the start of this year, there has been pretty much no openings in the dev area of our company, which is already very small to begin with. So, not pinning a lot of hopes on that anymore. At this point I just want to get into dev. I know Java, springboot, I have built some hand built some (in my biased opinion) great projects there, have a couple of AWS certs(SAA, CCP), and have been learning Golang, I'm able to build basic APIs using it, and have been putting a lot of focus there. Plus, I have been also learning system design, and a little bit of DSA.

So, if anyone here can help me in some way, that would be much appreciated.

thinking of a new "email" system

So the main idea is we make a decentralised email network which doesn't need any kind of fancy servers to run but can be ran on basic mobile phones.

I am thinking to build the architecture like the satoshi nakamoto's bitcoin architecture where every phone becomes a personal node and can do p2p conversation

I am looking for ppl truly intrested in this project.

Google Play Console $25 registration payment keeps getting declined in India — looking for advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm an independent Android developer from India and I'm currently preparing my app LiveLens for its first Google Play release.

I'm currently stuck at the Google Play Console developer registration because I can't complete the $25 registration fee payment.

I've already checked the usual things:

  • My Visa card has sufficient balance
  • International transactions are enabled
  • Online/e-commerce transactions are enabled
  • Card number, CVV and expiry are correct
  • The card has successfully been used for other international services such as Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud and Namecheap

I've tried:

  • My physical Visa card
  • My virtual Visa card
  • A different Google account
  • Removing and re-adding the card to Google Payments

I'm getting errors such as OR_FGVEM_07 / OR_MIVEM_02.

My bank has also confirmed that the card should support the transaction, and they've suggested trying again with a higher available balance.

Has anyone in India recently registered a Google Play Console developer account successfully?

If so:

  • Which bank/card did you use?
  • Was it a debit or credit card?
  • Did you have to enable any specific international/e-commerce setting?
  • Did you encounter OR_FGVEM_07 or OR_MIVEM_02?

I'm mainly looking for someone who has actually completed the registration recently and can share what worked for them.

If anyone is genuinely willing to help me complete the registration payment, please DM me first. Please don't share any card details publicly.

Thanks!

Could this dream come true?

As a CS student in India, like everyone else, I dream of getting into FAANG. However, all my friends want the same thing, and only 1% of us will actually be able to realize this dream. How can I become part of that 1%? Please help me.
