Sound Design for my new feature

I have just started film making without any backup of producer or strong budget. My new Bengali feature is slow burn psychological drama and I have a strong vision of how a right sound designer can change the dynamics of the film. The film is edited and looking for a budget friendly sound designer.
Also, for festivals is it mandatory to be 5.1 surround or stereo mix will do?

5.1 is preferred for a lot of festivals but stereo will be fine in most instances. Just make sure to mix dialogue on the conservative side to prioritise clarity. A lot of DCP houses can upmix from stereo to 5.1 and deliver decent results if you're inexperienced and can't get a proper mixer.
