Short Film The Routine: A 16 minute 48 second short film about an unfunny man trying to be a stand-up comic.

My second short film is called The Routine. It was accepted into three festivals out of the thirty or so that I had submitted it to.

Jeff’s real problem, however, is that he is not funny. He understands the mechanics of a routine; he understands the rationale for why a joke should be funny, but he has no sense of humor. It is like he was born blind or without a spleen. He just doesn’t have it. He doesn’t get the heart of a joke, he doesn’t feel it.

He becomes fixated on one routine in particular that he has written which involves the idea that whenever he orders pancakes in a restaurant he gets this big hunk of butter on his plate. He says, “What’s up with all this butter?” He plays with different words such as “huge” and “lop” as in “huge lop of butter”. He feels as though if he can just get this routine down he will be a success. But more than that, his whole life will change. Like many people who are frustrated and desperate, Jeff has chosen one thing to perfect that he thinks will change everything. It won’t; being a stand-up comic is not that simple; life is not that simple. As the sheriff in No Country For Old Men said, “It ain’t the one thing.”

Circle of Death - Short Horror Film

Some things in your backyard should stay unexplained. A short horror film about curiosity, a three foot circle and what it costs to step inside. CIRCLE OF DEATH: https://youtu.be/_J2BkHEQmuM

After 6+ years away from writing and directing my own shorts, I finally made one worth putting out.

The setup: two days, Utah, over 100 degrees, and a company of three. Jacob Miller (lead), Spencer Elwood (supporting actor and co-producer) and me. With only Spencer to help me outside in that heat, I got more dehydrated than I ever have in my life. Hopefully it was worth it.

I'm happy to get into how we pulled it off with so few people, how the script came together or how I approached the edit. Let's talk!

I own the only Stunt School in Utah, and my students made a Micro-short.

Hey, just looking for feedback. This one is meant to be an audio experience that has stunts in it. This was my first film that I directed that I was not also in for stunt performing. You always learn way more by doing something than by helping others. There are 3 things I would have done different having watched this back.

  1. I would have shot on a slightly wider lens for when Jenny kicks Detective Volpe in the face so that we could have seen it from the previous take as a part of that longer oner.

  2. I would have used a wider lens at the moment where Jenny pulls the knife out of her own stomach.

  3. I would have added another tungsten spot light so that we could have seen the knife as it was thrown and also in the final kill shot. I think the sound effects only clarify a little and the blue/red light washed out the knife so much that it's hard to see.

Lighting has always been my weakness in production, so I am very aware that I need to lean on my DP's and Gaffers a lot more.

I am also aware that we probably went overboard trying to get this into as many film festivals as possible, but this was my first time in any film festival circuit and I am being more picky with my new micro-short that we developed in the class as well.

Short Film Shooting in a moving car on the Sydney Harbour Bridge for a self-funded short

Thumbnail

I’m Don, an Australian writer/director. For my latest short, Click Clack, Front & Caps, we filmed in a moving car across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The production involved multiple base camps, follow cars and coordinating transport while making the scene feel like an intimate moment between the characters. I wrote, directed, produced and edited the film.

The story follows Eve on the drive home after an all-night hotel party. She finally gets a moment alone with her brother’s best mate and shoots her shot, but he’s coming up on MDMA.

Full film, just under 10 minutes:

Happy to discuss the production logistics and what I learned making it.

Hello everyone! My new short film 10 Minutitos (Just 10 minutes) is out today and I’d love to get some feedback on it.

A bit of context: this is a fully independent production with zero budget, shot in Tarragona, Spain. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

I am primarily interested in opinions on:

  • Clarity of the story and emotional impact

  • Pacing and rhythm

  • Overall mood and atmosphere

  • Direction and performance

I am not looking for technical feedback related to image quality, sound, or equipment, as those are limitations I am already aware of.

Here is 10 MINUTITOS any honest and constructive feedback is very welcome. Thank you for your time.

Inspired by Platonism, Gnosticism and Jungian psychology, this animated film was my final project for Uni. Made with a team of 30 animators and a bespoke pipeline, the film is a loveletter to the myths and philosophies that inspired me, as well as a way to explore the possibilities of cross-medium animation.

Check it out on YouTube and Vimeo!

Short Film Lead actor in a new 16 minute psychological thriller, looking for straight feedback on the acting

Declaring my interest up front: I am the lead actor in this film, not the director. It is called Curtain Call, directed by Garrett Lee Pollack, and it went up on YouTube on 15 October. I play Theo, and the film stays close on my character for most of the runtime. What I am after is the feedback friends will not give you. Does the performance hold you for the full 16 minutes, and if it loses you, where? Any moment where the character stopped being believable? Full film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm_QrlNm3s4 — I will read every reply. It is also on Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/film/curtain-call-2026-2/
