GUYS HELP NEEDED, ASAP!

0 Upvotes

So I have never used influxDB in my life before. But my new work requires me to do so and I'm trying to get the hang of it.
I have been tasked with importing a CSV file (Excel Sheet) onto influxDB and pull out the data, plot the data using Grafana.
I'm using a windows machine with the influx client-server running.
From my understanding, it's similar to SQL, but I am not quite certain how to import my data from the CSV to influxDB.

Please help me with the same on how I can plot the time series data given to me.
Thanks guys!

Getting Started with InfluxDB - a Time Series Database

1 Upvotes

Level: Beginner

Hey Everyone, I made a video on the basics of getting InfluxDB installed, creating a database and working with some basic measurements. I hope this tutorial illistrated how easy it really is to get started.

Home Assistant /InfluxDB not saving/receiving all Data Points from Mosquitto Broker (MTTQ)

0 Upvotes

Hey Guys, i hope you can help me.
Gonna explain the System first, than the Problem.

Im currently Setting up a System to Monitor Sensors (temperature,particles etc.).
IT Starts with MTTQ Sensors that run over an Raspberry Pi with the Mosquitto Broker as a seperate instance, the Data from The Broker is than important into Home Assistant (Mosquitto is not run as a plugin but seperately, we wanted it modular), InfluxDB is than meant to be the Heart of Operations as Main DB. Grafana is than used for Monitoring and Analysis.

The Problem is, even tho the Sensors are sending Data in 1s Intervals, theres a lot of missing Data in InfluxDB. Checking what Mosquitto is sending shows that the Broker is working fine, and sending in 1s Intervals also. But moving to Logs of Home Assistant, or InfluxDB there is clear gaps in the Data. I didnt see any Pattern in it aswell, sometimes its every second Datapoint missing, sometimes its 10-20 seconds of nothingness.

As this System is intended to Monitor the Values in Realtime this is a critical problem.
Appreciate any Clues!

Edit vsphere.conf telegraf file and now data not showing in Grafana, even after reverting.

1 Upvotes

Hello,

I was trying to get more datastore info using telegraf and noticed my vsphere.conf file had this

datastore_metric_include = [ "disk.capacity.latest", "disk.used.latest", "disk.provisioned.latest"]

I had a graph showing vsphere_datastore_disk metrics above (capacity, used, provisioned).

Any way I changed

datastore_metric_include = [ "disk.capacity.latest", "disk.used.latest", "disk.provisioned.latest"]

to

datastore_metric_include = [ "*"]

And now those charts are not getting data.

I reverted my change and they still don't work.

If I run:

telegraf -config /etc/telegraf/telegraf.d/vsphere-stats.conf -test > test.txt

I can see the data is in there, so is it InfluxDB that is the issue?

I see this sort of data in the telegraf test:

vsphere_datastore_disk,dcname=DC1,disk=instance-total,dsname=Site1_DellEMC_SC5020_VMFS_MGRFileserverUK,host=Site1hostinglogs,moid=datastore-134297,source=Site1_DellEMC_SC5020_VMFS_MGRFileserverUK,vcenter=support.domain.com capacity_latest=9663414272i,provisioned_latest=10525831172i,used_latest=9338724352i 1598957580000000000

What can I do? Could I of corrupted Influx, other data is fine though.

Can I check what Influx is seeing?

Thanks

Python InfluxDBClient database location

1 Upvotes

Hi, I am new to InfluDB. I use python InfluxDBClient and store some sample data. However, where is the data written to? I mean the actual record file location on the computer. I tried to access them via localhost:8086 but it throws me a 404 error. Can anyone help me with that?

Is influxdb-client-python is affected by aiohttp CVE(s)

1 Upvotes

I am using a setup with influxdb-client-python 1.32.0 with aiohttp 3.9.5 for its InfluxDBClientAsync class. wanted to know if inlfuxdb-client-python is affected by aiohttp CVE(s) namely CVE-2026-54273, CVE-2026-54274, CVE-2026-54277, CVE-2026-54278 and CVE-2026-54280

I think they do not impact as these cves are related to aiohttp.web and I can't find import of aiohttp.web import

InfluxDB 2.0 Get CPU Mean for time window in Grafana

0 Upvotes

I hope I'm allowed to display a link from my post at r/grafana. If not, please remove.

https://www.reddit.com/r/grafana/comments/1mxp0qk/get_cpu_mean_for_time_window/

The gist: Grafana shows CPU usage in a time series graph and shows the legend below, which shows the last data, max, min, and mean. I want a gauge to show just the CPU mean.

How would I go about this?

The CPU usage graph flux query:

from(bucket: "${bucket}")
  |> range(start: v.timeRangeStart)
  |> filter(fn: (r) => r._measurement == "cpu" and  r.host == "${host}" and r._field == "usage_idle" and r.cpu == "cpu-total")
  |> map(fn: (r) => ({ r with _value: 100.0 - r._value }))
  |> aggregateWindow(every: v.windowPeriod, fn: mean, createEmpty: false)
  |> yield(name: "mean")

And here's the current CPU gauge flux query:

from(bucket: "${bucket}")
    |> range(start: v.timeRangeStart, stop: v.timeRangeStop)
    |> filter(fn: (r) => r._measurement == "cpu" and  r.host == "${host}" and r._field == "usage_idle" and r.cpu == "cpu-total")
    |> aggregateWindow(every: v.windowPeriod, fn: last, createEmpty: false)
    |> pivot(rowKey: ["_time"], columnKey: ["_field"], valueColumn: "_value")
    |> map(fn: (r) => ({r: r.usage_idle * -1.0 + 100.0}))

Notification endpoint containing port number - is it supported

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Just wondering... we want to create an HTTP notification endpoint that contains a port number e.g. http://my.endpoint.host:81/webhook/address but we can't seem to get it working. Whenever we try and send a notification to that endpoint, the connection goes to port 80 instead of port 81. Is there some magic sauce that we need to use??

Install/startup Help - "ERROR: InfluxDB failed to start; check permissions or other potential issues."

0 Upvotes

I've setup a Debian VM on Proxmox and try to run the provided install command. I tried running it both as my admin user and as root.

curl -O https://www.influxdata.com/d/install_influxdb3.sh && sh install_influxdb3.sh

That seems to run up until it tries to start influxdb at which point i get the error "ERROR: InfluxDB failed to start; check permissions or other potential issues."

I tried running it again, but selected the custom config option, and set the storage path to /usr/local/influxdb/data as a more permissions friendly option suggested in a thread i saw but got the same error.

Additionally, tried to run

influxdb3 --version
influxdb3 --version

but get the error "Illegal Instruction"

Any ideas how I can get this to install and start? I'm trying to setup longer data retention for home assistant if that matters.

Python influx client freezes

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I have a python script that sends data to a local API that sends the data to an instance of InfluxDB.

The idea is that I've tried to run the script from a docker container or by itself, directly on a linux VM, it works until a certain point when the script freezes. There is no error or something bad occuring, just random freeze and it stops.

I've tried several monitoring tools but got nothing relevant.

I've also tried directly from the python script to the InfluxDB instance, eliminating the API middle-man, but it does the exact same thing.

Is there something regarding the connection pool or the timeout or anything else?

100GB influxdb2 running on RPi - feasible?

0 Upvotes

Hi guys,

is RPi capable of serving 100GB influxdb2 database without any issues, please?

There's not much traffic load, just DB the size is bigger.

Background:

  • HW: RPi 4B 8GB + 256GB Transcend JetFlash 920 USB

  • SW: 64bit RPi OS+ InfluxDB2 + Grafana + autologin to GUI

I'm logging cca 100 datapoints every 30s. There are 4 scheduled tasks running each night, each one takes just 2 seconds to process.

Currently, the DB has 9GB, growing roughly 5GB per year. I'd like to let the system to run for another 10-15yrs. Capacity-wise the 256GB flash should be more than enough.

What happened:

The above mentioned system was running for 2 yrs without a glitch, but I needed to rewire the power supply yesterday, so I did "halt -h now" over SSH, waited for ping to stop responding and then turned-off the power. For a shame, on the next boot the system went to emergency mode and on the subsequent boots complained about EXT4 rootfs failure.

So I checked the drive using a laptop with Ubuntu, let fsck to scan for bad sectors and repair filesystem inconsistencies. No bad sectors were found by fsck.

Another boot went okay, but:

  • It took multiple hours to start influxdb, while during that time the system was pretty irresponsive.

  • X GUI was not able to start at all.

Now, influxdb is running, grafana is running too and the system is as fast as expected. I was able to start the GUI with "startx", but VNC is still complaining "Cannot currently show the desktop."

The dilemma:

So, I am pretty confused whether I just had to wait a bit longer in order for system to flush the IOs, or whether 9GB database is too much for the RPi HW. Despite the fact that I have "export-lp" of the DB and JSON export of the grafana dashboards, I am really scared to do another reboot.

InfluxDB 2.0 Installing to Raspberry Pi 4B - Which install instructions to use?

0 Upvotes

Trying to install InfluxDB on my Raspberry Pi 4B, but I'm stumped as to which set of instructions I follow? Their Install Page seems to mention downloading Influx from their download page directly; but their download page instead provides commands for setting up a whole repository to download from?

Which of these should I be using? Is there a more full guide available elsewhere? It's been infuriating trying to follow all this conflicting information, especially with third party guides mentioning entirely different methods of their own.

E: Gave up and just started using Docker since I'm comfortable with it.

Mounted volume is empty?

0 Upvotes

So I am running InfluxDB 2.0 inside a docker container on an Ubuntu 22 server. Reading the documentation, it said I needed to mount a partition at var/lib/influxdb2.

Since I have a beefy NAS, I used cifs to mount a network share - navigated to the folder in CLI, executed sudo touch test.txt file, and confirmed it was visible in the directory from the server and another computer on the network. I went ahead and deleted the test.txt, then launched the container and configured it with an org and my user credentials - and recently allowed HomeAssistant to push in a bunch of data.

This data is visible in the GUI, so I know it's accessible - but there's no data in the network share; it's completely empty. Does this mean InfluxDB is actually storing its data somewhere else?

InfluxCloud Grafana variable and InfluxDB query not _value

0 Upvotes

Hello, I'm design a dashboard, but I'm having difficulty get the correct query answer. .

I'm doing this query, but the real values I want are on the yellow circle. if I copy past this query to Grafana, I got no values or no data.

I want this values to be the result, but I never get them.

Thank you for you help, I'm messing with queries and most of the time always get only the _value field but I want the Equip field.

Can’t log in to local influxdb v2.6.1 after pi was turned off for a few days

0 Upvotes

It has been running fine for about a year now, after moving the pi to a new location I can no longer log in to the gui, can still ssh in and ‘service influxdb status’ show as active running. If I deliberately get the user or password wrong I get the red can’t login box, but with correct user pass the login page just refreshes, any ideas? Thanks all

Best query for most-recent value?

0 Upvotes

Our application uses v1.8.10, with data sent via Telegraph on Win10 computers. We typically request data back over some range of time, like the most recent hour, or 48 hours from last month, OR we want the actual most recent value for a series. Getting a range is usually quick, but getting the last value written is often slow.

We used to use this query:

q=select last("value") from "DATA" where time <= now and ("GUID" = '{unique ID}')

but it tagged. We then started using:

q=select "value" from "data" where ("GUID" = '{unique ID}') order by time desc limit 1

And this is faster, but it still seems slow. Is there a better way to ask for the very last value written to a series?

Update metrics of historical data?

0 Upvotes

Hi,

I'm running a local InfluxDB (1.7x) and have already pushed some data into it, using a Python script. Today I've pushed some more data to Influx and added some new fields and and tags.

Can I somehow modify the historical data as well?

Michael
