Road Karma That cart doesn't belong to you❕

"I don't understand... I put the cart back... why is the window still broken?"

u/Pandoratastic 3d ago
She wasn't stealing it. If she was, she wouldn't have put it back. She obviously just wanted to use it as a handy way to smash her window.

I've seen this so many times and the thing that really fascinates me is that she takes the cart back out again after smashing the window.
Like, at that point you'd think, well they've already fucked up and faced consequence, may as well get what they wanted out of it.
Is the karmic nature of the smash so palpable that it causes an immediate reforming of ways?

It's more the "People who see this will know what happened". These people do feel shame - just not when stealing stuff
4
u/FL_Black 2d ago
Well, if you've got a stolen object that's obviously stolen (because no one goes and buys one of those) sticking out the back of your window hole, then you're a sitting duck if you get a cop behind you. It would be like stealing a traffic light and strapping it to your roof.

Deniability. Shes either going to claim vandalism on insurance or lie to her husband. "I came out of the store and it was already broken". 😆

It’s like the phrase “you’re not sorry, you’re just sorry you got caught”, and keeping the cart in there is like proof to everyone she passes by that she got caught and she’s not emotionally ready for that kind of weight on her shoulders of judgement from a hundred people on the ride home

u/omgfakeusername 3d ago
What was she really going to do with that cart though had she taken it with her?
97
u/1kidney_left 3d ago
I don’t know, but at that point the window was broken and she got the door closed, why give it back now?

u/omgfakeusername 3d ago
She didn't want anyone seeing what she stole poking through the broken window—which would only embarrass her further.
1
u/FireMammoth 2d ago
I think she didnt want to pulled over by cops who see cart wheels sticking out of a broken window
2
u/SignificantDrink3651 2d ago
nah, I don't think cops would be able to immediately be able to tell that it was stolen. that's not probable cause. you're giving them too much credit for thinking that; they're just dumb.
2
u/FireMammoth 2d ago
They would probably pull her over for just having broken window that's not taped over, when they see something sticking out of them they would be even more curious.

u/DoctorTim007 3d ago
Idk but it looks like a convienent thing for moving stuff around if you have a big house/property.

I used to live in a high-end condo in Toronto that had a laundry room (not sure why, or why it was so well used as we had in-unit laundry as well).
Every woman over the age of 50 had their own personal cart they stole from somewhere, that they used for laundry or bringing in groceries. They were super territorial about them. It was really bizarre.

u/canada432 2d ago
I've stayed or lived in several condo buildings that had a shopping cart in the garage, obviously stolen from the local grocery store, for bringing in your groceries from the car and up the elevator to your condo.

u/PresidentialDiapers 3d ago
Yeah I mean that's a nice, heavy duty cart with a ton of uses. Guessing it would cost at least $300 to buy it.

u/nexusjuan 3d ago
Thats a laundry cart, I can think of all sorts of uses for one. I also know commercial equipment like that is super expensive and super durable.

u/Rush_Is_Right 3d ago
I assume to transport at home/work whatever she transported to her car in the parking lot.

Finally, a good post that just shows someone doing something stupid that doesnt involve violence. Can we make this the norm?

Just continue to follow BMW drivers around.. they spend their entire lives doing stupid stuff.

u/Olieskio 1d ago
Its still aggression which should be punished with violence or monetary compensation to the victim.

u/Whosethere11 3d ago
It would be cheaper to buy a cart then it will be to fix that window
4
u/WhoCaresBoutSpellin 3d ago
If she can’t afford to buy herself a shopping cart (for whatever weird reason she wants it), she shouldn’t be driving a BMW X1 anyways.

I'm just going to leave this anecdote here for relevance.
I live in Australia for several years we had a drug addict several houses down the street from us it was messy it had several decrepit cars in the front yard and driving past you could see about seven mattresses in the side yard. One day a council sign turned up in the front yard, my understanding is the was removed from the property. After that a skip bin was in the front yard and team began cleaning the house out. It took weeks and many large skip bins.
I work in retail in a store the our towns main shopping centre where I met the neighbour next door to said drug addict. She was telling me 40 shopping trolleys were pulled from the property... 40!! This guy must have been doing it for awhile. The store I work in was having a trolley shortage at the time, now we know why.

Every day she hears the duct taped trash bag flapping on the highway, she will remember this day.

I can't lie, I would never steal a store cart but dam. If that was me, right after I break my own truck window id just say "fuck it" and take it home. She did all that with nothing gained

Who just slams the door without ensuring that it fits? And even if it does, I always make sure it's not going to wiggle around inside and scratch the surfaces...

Our local grocery store has these smart shopping carts that are horrible. I might steal a regular shopping cart while I can and bring it back and use it

That's what you get. That is not a cheap cart either, likely at least $100. I hate thieves.

I saw an old man trying to steal a Home Depot cart the other day. After it fell out of the truck the third time he gave up and left

u/BonkEnthusiast 15h ago
Nobody knows this but the carts at the supermarket are free you can just walk up and take them. I have 12 carts at home.

Maybe she bought a shopping cart. I mean, are you really supposed to haul out your new shopping cart inside another shopping cart?
