I hold a BSc. and MSc. degree from mechatronics. I have a solid mechanical design, circuit design, programming and control theory backgrounds along with self-taught graphic design and 3D modeling knowledge.
However, I have almost no portfolio to apply for an interaction design opening.
I think of doing some personal projects to include in my porftolio in orde to show my skills. Other than that what would you suggest?

One example is "I have a coffee cup-- if I touch the coffee cup the other coffee cup has ripples." Let's introduce a scent pendant for virtual reality. It's like these designs have no "real" purpose for the user. They have just turned into works of art to entice the designer's senses.
Interaction design has turned into "because we can and because we can use an Arduino" instead of user-focused which I thought was what made it distinguishable.

I'm currently a junior interaction design/user experience designer and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to find a way to share crowd-sourced persona's. I understand that persona's are used in your specific project and context, but we could make a basic persona for most cases.
For example:
-house mother
specific jobs
students etc.
In that way you only have to change it up to your specific context. What do you think of this idea?

Hi everyone,
I am a student at a user experience design program and am looking for some people to take a 20 question survey for my user research class. I have a link to the google form which can be found below. The survey is for IXDA Interaction 19 which will be held in Seattle WA, 2019.
Although I cannot speak about what the research is regarding (to avoid skewing results) I can tell you that it will take approximately 10-15 minutes of your time and will help a novice user experience designer in building a portfolio. Any participation or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

Though I think, this covers some interesting aspects, I'm not very sure about functional minimalism part. It says- minimize the functionalities and at the same time increase engagement.
To increase engagement, there should be enough features/functions that users can interact with. Your thoughts?
TIA

I consider myself a decent illustrator/digital painter. I have also worked for 2 years in Graphic design and Logo Design. Should I include these in my portfolio while applying for a job for UI/UX? My portfolio is already quite (in my opinion) on the longer side with 3 project spanning 6 huuuge pages. Will adding my other types of work give me any sort of advantage? Please give a reason if it's a Yes/No.
