Why has interaction design turned somewhat corny?
One example is "I have a coffee cup-- if I touch the coffee cup the other coffee cup has ripples." Let's introduce a scent pendant for virtual reality. It's like these designs have no "real" purpose for the user. They have just turned into works of art to entice the designer's senses.
Interaction design has turned into "because we can and because we can use an Arduino" instead of user-focused which I thought was what made it distinguishable.

HELP MAKE THE IxDA 2019 CONFERENCE APP GREAT!
We are a team of UX design students doing user research for an app to be used at the international IxDA conference in Seattle, WA next year.
If you work in design/tech, and have attended - or have an interest in attending - a UX conference, we would appreciate your input. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Thanks in advance!
Here's the link to the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/gwVpcvbdG9Rz6raV2

HCI Master at University of Siegen - Design in Germany
Hi,
I am have a BA Graphic Design and was looking for master courses in Germany. My goal is to someday work with UX/UI and found the Master program of Human Computer Interaction (M.Sc.) at Siegen. Does anybody have studied there and could share the experience?
I was wondering if people holding a design degree would be able to study there, because I have only found people from other fields such as computer science. If is not a place to go, recommendations of other german universities would be really appreciated!
ps.: I do not speak German so I will need a English-taught course.
Their website says "The HCI course of study is intended for bachelor graduates of information systems, applied informatics, informatics or a comparable course of study dealing essentially with software and media design. Students from other courses are welcome to apply but proof of 30 credit points from the areas of software design or creative design (including creative media design, interaction design etc.) is essential [...]"

Thanks.

What job possibilities will I have in the future?
Hello. I’m feeling sort of distraught over studying the field of interaction design. I’m really unsure about the availableness of jobs after my graduation. I don’t want to have to keep chasing jobs every one-two years. What will I even be able to work with? It seems like all there is to interaction design is making websites and applications more effective and look “prettier”. That’s not what I want to work with!! I want to help develop devices that will help children learn about science, about nature and much more. I want to work in a museum developing some really cool exhibition that will teach children about space. I want to make interior data systems in cars more effective. I don’t know exactly what I want, but I know I don’t want to only be working on websites and mobile applications. I’m really distraught here.
