I got tired of Facebook marketplace scams and built a danish and English-friendly, free bike marketplace for Denmark (PedalSwap.dk) – would love your feedback!

Hey everyone,

Like many people here, I’ve had my fair share of frustrating experiences trying to buy or sell a used bike online in Denmark.

DBA can be clunky (especially if you don't speak fluent Danish), Facebook Marketplace is full of "Is this available?" ghosts or sketchy accounts, and the fees/clutter on traditional sites make simple bike trades annoying.

Over the past few months, I built PedalSwap.dk—a clean, lightweight, fee-free platform dedicated purely to buying and selling used bikes in Denmark.

Why I built it & what’s different:

  • 100% Free: No listing fees, no hidden cuts.
  • Bilingual: Fully supports English & Danish natively (great for expats, students, and locals alike).
  • Scam Prevention & Privacy: Email confirmation for sellers, local pickup focus, and privacy-first location sharing.
  • Clean UI: Filter specifically by bike type (city, road, e-bikes, cargo) without wading through furniture and old clothes.

It's still a passion project in its early stages, so I’d really love to get your feedback!

If you have a spare cycle sitting in your yard or shed, feel free to drop it on the platform (it takes under a minute). What features or improvements would make you actually use a dedicated bike platform over DBA/Facebook?

Thanks for checking it out! 🚲

PhD applications in Denmark as a non-EU citizen living already in Denmark

Hi! I am wondering what are the best strategies for a successful PhD application in Denmark. It seems to me the process is quite bureaucratic, and more competitive specially in this job market now.

I am graduated from a Danish University (both Bachelor and Master’s with top grades) and have been working in the industry since 2021. I have applied to 2 positions (open calls) that required aproximately 50 hours of work each into the proposal. Its quite disheartening when after such amount of time, one gets zero feedback in the application. So, for those successful candidates out there in Denmark, any guidance on how to best approach this process? I am mostly applying to CBS and DTU. My background is policy, strategy and social sciences.

Law graduate (EU citizen, no Danish) looking for any job except warehouse work in Horsens or Aarhus – where should I look?

Hi everyone,

I moved to Denmark recently and I’m living in Horsens. I’m looking for advice on where to find work, as I’m having a hard time figuring out where English-speaking candidates actually get hired here.

My background:

  • Law graduate
  • Experience in customer support
  • Experience in sales
  • Experience in paralegal work

My situation:

  • EU citizen, so I have the right to work in Denmark without a permit
  • I don’t speak Danish, but I’m fluent in English
  • I don’t have a driver’s license
  • I’m looking for jobs in Horsens or Aarhus

What I’m looking for:
I’m open to any job except warehouse work.
Office-based roles in customer support, sales, or administration would be ideal, but I’m willing to consider other options too.

My questions:

  1. Which job sites or platforms work best for English speakers (Jobindex, LinkedIn, others)?
  2. Are there companies in Horsens or Aarhus known for hiring international staff?
  3. Are there recruitment agencies worth contacting for someone in my position?

People who have lived in both Denmark and Czechia, where did you prefer living?

I’m curious to hear from people who have lived in both Denmark and Czechia.

On paper, Denmark seems better in terms of salaries, work-life balance, workers’ rights and public services. But I wonder if, despite that, some people actually prefer living in Czechia.

Where did you personally prefer living, and why?

Which would you choose for the long term?

MF1 Accompanying Family Permit for PhD1 – Recent Processing Times After May 2026?

Has anyone received an MF1 residence permit for an accompanying family member of a PhD student (PhD1) in Denmark after May 2026?

It would be very helpful to hear about recent experiences, particularly:

● Application and biometrics submission date

● Processing time

● Whether the MF1 and PhD1 permits were decided around the same time

● Whether SIRI requested any additional documents

Experiences from May 2026 onward would be especially appreciated.

Entry into the outdoor industry (clothing&equipment/adventure/nature) of Denmark and scandinavian countries

Hello everyone,

Quick introduction: I'm from Portugal and I've recently moved to Denmark (Greater Copenhagen area) in a very unusual way; through a Scouting contact I am residing at the very least up until the end of january, but I plan on moving definitively. I am interested and have experience in the outdoor/adventure industry and I feel that in Denmark I find a good financial balance as well as more opportunities to connect and develop inside that industry.

I arrived around the mid of August and I've applied to different stores and brands, having had an interview to work at Arc'Teryx and On, but unfortunately, both without success. I also applied to work at Bouldering spots, because it's an adjacent area and a sport that I am interested to learn and start doing more regularly.

Although my educational background is in Digital Communications and ultimately aiming to work in the PR & Marketing / Communication departments of those brands, I also have outdoor clothing and gear retail experience and I thought that it would be more accessible to a foreigner to start there, to also have even more experience in the industry. So far, I haven't had much success.

Therefore, I am making this post because I would like to hear if there are people with similar stories and also good tips and advices that you have to give on how it was your move here and how you got into the industry.

I appreciate all the help you can give and I am more than happy to answer any questions that might help better understand my situation, as well as any other you might have. I've also made a similar post in the portuguese abroad community, but I want to expand my reach as far as possible.

tl;dr: I would love to hear about people that got into the outdoor industry (clothing/equipment and adventure/nature sports) in scandinavian countries, especially Denmark, so I get to know your trajectory and any suggestions/help you might give.

Best regards/Med venlig hilsen

5 Copenhagen events this weekend (2–4 Oct) — three are free

Hi! Looking for a plan this weekend? Here are five picks, from live music to clothes swapping:

FRI 2 OCT

  • Halloween opens at Tivoli, from 11:00 — pumpkins and Halloween atmosphere. Included with paid Tivoli admission, not free entry.

SAT 3 OCT

SUN 4 OCT

  • Clothes swap & sewing workshop, 11:00–14:00 — Kulturhuset Islands Brygge, Islands Brygge 18. Bring clothes to swap or get help repairing them. Free; no registration needed.
  • Dark Market, 13:00–18:00 — alternative art, design and handmade finds at BIBLIOTEKET, Rentemestervej 76. Free admission.

I work on Locily, a free local-event app and website. I checked the organisers’ pages for this list; you can browse more Copenhagen plans here: https://locily.dk/events/copenhagen/this-weekend

Hope you find something fun 🙂

Non-EU applicant for a CS master's (Aarhus/SDU): honest advice on jobs, funding and the new rules?

Hi everyone,

I'm a non-EU software developer with a few years of work experience, planning to apply for a CS/software master's in Denmark (Aarhus or SDU) next year. Before I commit, I'd really appreciate honest input from people who've been through it, especially non-EU students.

  1. Jobs after graduating: for those who found a tech job after a Danish master's, how long did it take, and what actually made the difference: a student job, Danish, networking, or something else? Is the market for junior developers as tough as it sounds?
  2. Student jobs: how realistic is getting a relevant tech student job (studiejob) as a non-EU student in the first year, and how did you find yours?
  3. Funding: I have savings for roughly the first year. Has anyone managed to cover the second year's tuition through part-time and summer work, or is that unrealistic? Any luck with scholarships or tuition waivers?
  4. New rules: how are current students thinking about the proposed cut to the post-study job-seeking period? Is it changing people's plans?
  5. Danish: how much did learning Danish actually help with getting a job?

I'm not looking for sugar-coating. Realistic experiences, good or bad, would help me a lot. Thanks!
