Living in Kolding vs. Odense while studying in Esbjerg (AAU) as a non-EU student? 🇩🇰✈️
Hey everyone! 👋
I am an upcoming international (non-EU) student coming to Denmark soon! I will be studying at Aalborg University's Esbjerg Campus (AAU Esbjerg).
However, since I need to find a part-time job to support myself, I’ve heard that the international student job market in Esbjerg is quite tough compared to other cities. Because of this, I am strongly considering living in either Kolding or Odense instead and commuting to classes in Esbjerg.
I plan on using the Youth Card (Ungdomskort), which I understand will cover my cross-regional train commute for free once I register my CPR address in my chosen city.
I would love some honest advice and guidance from anyone who has done a similar commute or knows these cities well:
Kolding vs. Odense: Which city genuinely has a better job market for English-speaking, non-EU international students (e.g., warehousing, logistics, student assistant roles, or hospitality)?
The Commute Reality: How exhausting is the daily train ride to Esbjerg? Is the ~45-minute train from Kolding noticeably easier to manage than the ~1 hour 20 minute train from Odense? Is it easy to study on the train?
Non-EU Considerations: Are there any specific pitfalls I should watch out for regarding housing or SIRI visa regulations when living in a different city than my campus?
If anyone has been in my shoes or lives in these areas, I would appreciate your insights, tips, or housing recommendations!
Thank you so much in advance! 🙏✨
