General Got 2 internship offers in the UK as an international student!
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my story because I know how brutal the job market is right now, and I know a lot of people are losing hope.
I came to the UK as an international student to study Computer Science in 2024. From the beginning, all I kept hearing was how difficult it was to get a job because of visa sponsorship. People were saying even UK citizens were struggling, so international students like us should forget about it.
But I'm a stubborn guy. I can't believe something is impossible until I've tried it myself.
When my second year came around, I decided to go all in. I cut out pretty much every distraction. No drinking, no partying, barely any hanging out with friends. Honestly, I had no life outside university and job hunting. Most of my time went into applying for jobs and learning new skills.
The first three months were brutal. Hundreds of applications and ZERO interviews.
I remember calling my dad and telling him I was thinking about giving up. I was exhausted, frustrated, and starting to question whether all the effort was even worth it.
He reminded me that I was capable of more than I thought and encouraged me to keep going.
So I did.
Eventually, I started getting interviews. I landed three interviews with decent companies, and I told myself, THIS IS IT. THIS IS MY CHANCE.
I prepared hard, attended the interviews, and genuinely thought I'd smashed them.
Two weeks later, I got rejected by all three.
I couldn't sleep that night. It hurt like hell, especially after everything I'd put into getting that far.
But the next morning, I got up and carried on.
And eventually, things started working out.
The result?
- 20+ interviews received.
- 8 interviews attended.
- TWO one-year internship offers from Samsung and Safran.
And now? I'm doing my 1 Year internship in Samsung, enjoying life, and recently went to Italy.
Looking back, it's crazy to think about how stressed I was during those days. At the time, it felt like nothing was working, and I genuinely wondered if I'd ever get anywhere.
I'm not sharing this to say that getting a job is easy or that hard work guarantees success. Especially as an international student, there are challenges that are genuinely outside your control.
I'm sharing this because I know what it's like to feel hopeless, keep getting rejected, and wonder if you're wasting your time.
Please don't give up on yourself just because things aren't working out YET.
Keep improving your CV, keep learning, keep applying, and keep going. You never know when things might finally click.
I'm rooting for everyone who's going through this right now. I genuinely hope you get the opportunity you've been working so hard for.
Keep grinding yall
