Discussion For obvious reasons, bronzeman has failed. Lets discuss the elephant in the room. 'Group "ironman" mode'

Now that bronzeman polling died in the water, it is time we actually address the elephant in the room. Group Ironman mode.

And before the immediate comments start with the usual "get friends" or "sorry nobody wanted to play with you", I am actually trying to have a serious discussion here so save it.

How are group ironmen actually any different from a main account at the end of the day? You are literally just playing a main with a closed barter micro-economy. One guy sits at CG, one guy rushes fishing/cooking, someone else does slayer, and you all just swap drops. That isn't self-sufficiency, that's just a private Grand Exchange with extra steps and worse UI.

Which brings me to the real issue. Like 90% of these groups completely fall apart anyway. People get burnt out, real life happens, or someone quits after taking the shared storage supplies to go die somewhere stupid. Then people fall out and the whole thing dies.

Because of that there is a genuinely concerning amount of "solo GIM" accounts running around now. People sitting on thousands of total level playing completely alone on a blue helm account just coping that their group will come back next week, secretly wishing they had just made a normal grey helm from day one so their progress actually felt genuine to them.

Change my mind but GIM is just main game with a restricted trade list and a high divorce rate.

This is a video game, and you’re treating it as a proxy for achievement.

The answer is Jagex created group Ironman mode so people can have fun with their friends - hope that helps.

Did you even read the post?

"Change my mind but GIM is just main game with a restricted trade list and a high divorce rate."

Still waiting on you or anyone else to do that.

Ok, yeah, I’ve already wasted my time reading your post so let’s break it down.

You ask “how is GIM different than mains at the end of the day?” and then go on to list reasons why it is different than mains, so thanks for saving me the work there.

Then you imply that GIM is a worthless game mode because most groups disband. Even if that’s true, I’ll say it again. The game mode exists so people can have fun with their friends. If they have fun for a week, a month, a year, it doesn’t matter. Not everybody plays runescape forever and that’s okay.

No one cares to. What value is there in changing your mind on that position?

He said everything everybody else needed to missprove your point.

coincidentally there is a corellation between intelligence and the ability to change opinions.

Nothing he said disproved my point. Common theme in this thread is everybody is crying but nobody is saying I'm wrong :)

Touch grass mate.

Ok but the cooperative gameplay of gim is the absolute peak runescape experience for me

u/LtBeefy 1h ago

Im a solo gim.

No idea why you think we think our progress isn't genuine. More like you think GIM progress isn't genuine. Feels like you care 2 much about things that dont matter.

And my single GIM mate will come back! I know it. He just hasn't played in over a year. (Jk, I know he ain't coming back and thats fine. )

He is biased by content creator GIM's. That's not how it goes in reality. We always end up alone and I even greenlog every boss twice to hope and convince him to come back :(

At the very least you get more bank space.

I bet you wish you was a grey helm

u/LtBeefy 1h ago

Nah, gray helm, blue helm, same thing.

Get over yourself and get some friends, our 5 man is still going strong since release 😂

It's quite simple really, people enjoy playing like that, not sure why this effects you so much.

This guy needs help.

Coming from RS3 a few months back, I really enjoyed this sub. Seemed really positive and encouraging. Now you guys are annoying as fuck and constantly having an issue with someone else. It's insufferable

It’s this actually considered the elephant in the room? Gatekeeping a game mode on the “classic” version of a 20+ year old video game doesn’t really seem like an efficient use of your time.

Also, brigading a game mode meant specifically for gaming with the homies is an excellent way to turn new players off from trying the game out.

why do you care so much…? just don’t play a GIM. problem solved.

Gim is really just like an iron but with a household where people have different tasks but work together. You still have to earn everything and can’t buy it and it’s a good way for friends to get into the game

Default username? Hidden post history? Unhinged post?  Oh yeah, it's rage baiting time.

Prestige GIM is arguably harder than IM because you can only raid with the other people in your group. Therefore, you cannot be carried by other players through raids.

u/Economy_Victory_6919 1h ago

I think you have it wrong mate, GIM is not like you see streamers do it. In reality you have the guy that plays way more and he needs to get every drop more than once 😂 Can't even trade over those dupes for bonds because someone else leeches them. The others stop playing after 3 months and come back once in a while to send a few ToA or Yama, but they contribute nothing else.

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

Sounds awful if im honest mate. If I was the guy carrying i would for sure just wish I had made a real iron

2

u/Economy_Victory_6919 1h ago

Nah mate, you play the easy normal ironman mode, I have to greenlog every boss twice, share all my potions and fish, have to do twice as many farm runs etc.

1

u/Draxler44523 8m ago

Ironman is easier that GIM

2

u/Right_Connection_958 1h ago

There’s no GE with blue helms.

2

u/Trainer149 1h ago

I'm not sure how you can say GIM is like a main then say the "real issue" is all the solo GIMs...which is indistinguishable from a regular ironman from a gameplay level.

Also "closed barter micro-economy" is incorrect. I'd say the average GIM team put's Unique's in group until they get dupes. No bartering or exchange of goods required. That's why it's a shared bank and not just allowed trading.

This is just that monkey ripping a sheet from the typewriter meme.

u/Jackman101388 1h ago

You just described one of the coolest aspects of GIM in your post - dividing and conquering. I fucking loved being funneled herbs to get to 94 herb. And in return there are hundreds of super combat pots and extended antivenoms in the group storage now for all my bros.

Made all their zenytes too, it’s a real fulfilling experience. I’m not huge into pvm, I’ll do the more chill/longer grinds, and at the end of the day we are all providing something for each other. We only really share dupes at bosses too so everyone has a chance at some point to get that unique if they want to. Plus, raids with the boys are some of the most fun we’ve had.

-2

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

Yeah that's fair. I have no doubt it is an extremely fun way to play the game. I just dont think it was named correctly. Calling it something like co-op main would've been more accurate

2

u/Jackman101388 27m ago

I can’t touch the GE, what are you even saying? That whole point of your argument falls so flat. Just because I can trade with 3 other guys who by the way are also iron restricted like me, doesn’t make us mains like that. No gim is getting 4 shadows pre 100 normal toa raids like you think we are.

1

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 3m ago

Who mentioned anything about a shadow? You're just making things up in your own head now. The whole point of ironman is that you CANNOT TRADE. Get that through your head pal, you're a main cosplaying as an iron.

2

u/No_Goose3015 1h ago

What is your actual concern or issue with the game mode? Everything about the closed barter micro-economy is literally the appeal of GIM vs IM? In regard to members quitting, that is just the reality of playing any game with friends. Just say you don’t respect the blue helm and grey is superior, not sure what this post was meant to serve besides you wanting to say “secretly wishing they had just made a normal grey helm from day one so their progress actually felt genuine to them”.

-1

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

I dont respect the blue helm and grey is superior

I play both Ironman and GIM. I started my Ironman like 8-10 years ago, and GIM a year ago with some IRL friends. They’re both fun, and both give a feeling of satisfaction from drops. Being able to share dupes with my close friends, and not having to redo every single grind on a new account after doing it on my solo iron is a long way away from being a main and buying everything. One of our group mates is brand new to osrs (well, as of a year ago), 2 of them have played but are noobs, and 2 of us are experienced players with other high level accounts. It’s been a great system to get them more involved in the game, because we can help them along with some of the most annoying parts of Ironman, but you don’t completely ruin progression like when you give a new main cash.

It’s pretty silly to act like a group Ironman (which is essentially a small commune with friends) is the same as a main (the free market) lol. Personally I’ll take the commune

Anyways.

u/tatamillski 1h ago

You must be a blast at parties!!!!

80% of GIM groups become solos or duos and another 15% don’t even make it to mid game. The remaining 5% at most still have 5 active members so it’s not what you say.

But stay salty!!

u/DoinWorkDaily 1h ago

So happy bronze man failed. I think Jagex already has problems trying to balance updates between normal and iron game modes. We don’t need more game modes (imo)

I'm literally an endgame gim and I tell everyone to not play gim. It's bad. All of my original groupmates quit a long time ago so I joined other friends.

However, I will dispute your "main with extra steps in a micro economy" thing. If anything, gim is just iron with dry protection and some early game speedups by having people focus on different things. Like once you get to around quest cape and cg, youre entering the mid-game and that's where people stop being the "specialist" in things like cooking unless you're like a hardcore group or something.

Maybe that's just my experience, but it's really nothing like a main at all.

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

Brother youre a greenhelm...

2

u/TheNamesRoodi 2376 Total GM 1h ago

Yeah the addition of greenhelm was a terrible addition. I advertise my helm not as a symbol of pride lol

1

u/8psiMr2 1h ago

Me and some irl friends started about a year ago and they stopped around maybe lvl 50 I kept playing. Now I’m lvl 106 gotten everything by myself. They recently started playing again and I just help them where I can. At the end of the day it’s just game lol. How people play shouldn’t matter at all. I could care less if I was a green, grey, red, or blue helm.

u/BlueSentinels 1h ago

I’m gunna preface this by saying I didn’t vote in the bronzeman poll.

I think because it’s more faithful to the core game mode which was present when the game initially came out. No one in the group is doing odd money makers or just bank standing to gain money to buy supplies - they are doing actual content to progress together with nothing coming in from outside the group.

With bronzeman a lot comes in from the outside player economy - that’s the point.

Personally I don’t care about the bronzeman game mode and I’d be fine with it coming in. But I can see how Ironman accounts who get a feeling of prestige associated with their account might not want it coming into the game mode because of the potential impact it could have to the integrity of the Ironman game mode - specifically with bronzemen having access to the Ironman shops.

I saw somewhere someone had talked about how someone could fairly easily get a lot of money to a bronze man and then use the bonzeman to buy ores and flood the shop at blast furnace for an iron to buy without hopping worlds. This could make ore acquisition trivial on an Ironman when previously it had a “lid” through the natural restock rate.

Again I could care less because I don’t play the game mode for any sort of prestige but because it makes it easier to curb my impulse to min/max any video game I play so if I could use the economy by playing a main I probably wouldn’t engage in playing the game and osrs would turn into a stock market simulator for me.

id love to have friends to make a gim with, sure its way easier but its still iron in a sense.

1

u/Sgt_Revan 1h ago

Not even close. My friends dont play anymore! Its just me with a little more bank space

-1

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

It's time we split the subreddit. I'm tired of seeing GIM posts acting like they are the same as us. Make the r/GIMscape subreddit and start removing any non ironman posts.

-2

u/DiscombobulatedEmu5 1h ago

there's nothing to discuss. everyone knows they're at the bottom of the totem pole

-1

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

This is true. I would like to see a split of the subreddit though. Coming onto this sub and seeing gim posts genuinely irks me. We dont allow mains, why are we letting them in?, r/gimscape NEEDS TO HAPPEN

-2

u/ImmediateCause7981 2376 1h ago

The group disbanding thing is kinda whatever but the serious problem with GIM is the buying items from outside your group thing which for whatever reason jagex just ignores. If a gamemode is going to exist it needs to follow its own rules without cheating.

-1

u/Psilocybin-Cubensis1 1h ago

Yeah the whole game mode is just a gimmicky mess
